Shirt of the Moment: MOJO Hounds Lead Singer
The multiple blessings that flowed from meeting Thrasher…In about 1993/1994, I joined the Rust listserv. I had recently gotten internet access. I first tried The Well, a Grateful Dead community. There was way too much traffic for me to participate. Then I tried a Bob Dylan group. Again, way too much traffic. So I searched around and found Rust.I met a lot of nice people, but only online, not in person. When the Voters for Choice shows at Constitution Hall featuring Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Pearl Jam and L7 were announced, many of us tried mailing postcards to be selected to purchase tickets. A few of us banded together and promised to offer extras to each other. I made a pact with Thrasher and mailed in about 50 postcards. I was not selected. Legend has it that Thrasher and Thrashette pulled their cul-de-sac together and submitted hundreds of postcards. They ended up with two extra tickets to both shows. Amazingly, they offered me an extra to each night, and I attended and met them in person for the first time. That has blossomed into a friendship and concert-going partnership that has lasted. But the coolest thing is that they also offered an extra to John Kearney, whom I ended up sitting with one night.John and I continued our friendship, and in late 1995, after meeting up again at a party at my house, I ended up being invited to sit in with John’s band, Mojo Hounds. Thirty years later, I’m still in the Mojo Hounds, and the band frequently plays my original songs.I saw Neil Young & Crazy Horse with Pearl Jam at a small venue two nights in a row. I met Thrasher and Thrashette, great people and fun friends, and I found one of the greatest joys of my life, Mojo Hounds. I did not ever have singing or songwriting on my bingo card, yet here we are! I can’t thank Thrasher and Thrashette enough for the way they unknowingly changed my life. I am happy to wear a Thrasher’s Wheat shirt and be pictured next to an awesome Neil poster (which I bought from another Rustie!)Cheryl B
Thanks so much and glad you're enjoying Cheryl.
Yes, so many memories from the DMV area over the decades. And who could forget our 1st meetup @ V4C? Neil, The Horse & Pearl Jam at Constitution Hall, 2 nights. Epic.
