We had a complete blast this evening at Pine Knob, the Horse came out full speed and didn't let up! Highlight of the evening (for me) was seeing the keyboard lower and wishing, hoping, and in ultimately getting the Hurricane. (The wind picked up and all!) The encore was too good to be true, Don't Cry No Tears and the Roll another Number? Forget about it. Old true love ain't too hard to see. Ironically, post show got a little wild. After hearing Love Earth, we couldn't help but notice more trash and empty beer cans then we have ever seen on a lawn. Seeing a food wrapper blow across our walkway like a tumbleweed was darkly poetic. All and all, epic night. Met some great people (shout out to Mike from Akron, and Justin and Megan from Canada) listening to Lou Reed's Coney Island Baby now winding the night down. Chicago get ready! -Just East of the Midwest

According to Sugar Mountain, tonight's show in Chicago, and the next two make-up shows from earlier in the tour, have been postponed due to illness. That's all it said.

Anyone know what's up?

No other news, the venue outside Austin posted on instagram that the show would be postponed. Our tickets still say 5/26, so waiting for the update. Double bummer.

At the show in Franklin a few weeks ago, I thought Ralph wasn't looking so good. Now I see Chicago and Texas postponements.

Hoping all is well with Ralph and everyone else.

Someone on Reddit who was at the show said they did a full soundcheck at 3PM before the scrubbed Chicago show and that NYCH’s tour manager said “it’s nothing serious,” which is good to hear. Apparently they also changed their after-show hang to an outdoor location the night before. Certainly one here doubts that Neil would postpone a tour based on a single positive COVID test among his team.

By the way, did y’all see we’re getting another Early Daze track next Friday? Pre-orders receive a copy of Look At All The Things, so that’ll hit streaming for sure. This looks like a pretty sweet compilation, will definitely be snagging the vinyl upon release.

Almost got to the rail in Chicago. Got our tickets printed at the box office around 4:00 and were about ten people back from the gate. Thanks to archives presale, we had tickets in the pit. My excitement had been building since the tour began and on the full moon the time had finally arrived. As we walked around the harbor we could hear sound check, the glorious sound of the Horse. I could not make out any of the songs though, just sounded like jamming. No vocals either. The event staff came out about and hour before the gates open and told us the show was postponed. We all just looked at each other in shock and disbelief. Some had made the trip from Europe. I had trouble just walking away. We talked to someone with a crew badge who was working merch. He said Neil didn't come out for sound check. He said maybe September. That is what little we could gather. I'm still in shock. We did make it to a cool rock bar and saw some young bands that were quite good with nice two guitar work and guitar tone. A guy on the rail saw me rocking out and stepped aside and gestured toward the rail. I put my hand on it for a second and let the guitars take me. Don't be denied! Farmer Jono

Hope everyone out there gets the Neil +Horse experience they’re yearning for. I’ve been reading but sitting out the sound and fury in certain recent threads. Not that it fails to signify anything—and I don’t think there any idiots here. If you aren’t familiar with Shakespeare or don’t recall, it’s worth looking up Macbeth’s full speech from which the “sound and fury” line comes. You can find it online.) I guess I’m a bit contrarian about the latest Horse craze (tour + new archival releases). Good to know they're still at it, but frenetic loudness doesn’t suit my current mood.

I’ve been listening to Horseshoe Man, of all things. Definitely in a mellow groove, and this extends to my choice of Neil soundtrack. Silver & Gold is a brilliant album in that regard. I like to listen to it in conjunction with Neil’s closely connected tracks from Looking Forward. In a playlist, Red Sun followed up by Out of Control is particularly powerful.

“The way the story started: two lovers long ago took a vow to live with heartbreak, took a chance but how could they know…
Love’s the answer. Love’s the question.” There’s a decent audience clip on youtube, from the ‘97 Bridge School show, where Neil ends the song with an alternative refrain that didn’t make the album: “I think I’m in love…” Not unlike early performances of A Man Needs a Maid had “Afraid… A man feels afraid.” I wonder how often Neil (or other writers) elide the most revealing, vulnerable parts of their work through editing? And then we all try to assemble the remaining puzzle pieces, wondering why and how the finished work presents fascinating enigmas.

Good to hear your contrarian voice MR. I concur, although I would love to see a live show. I just got back from Ireland, three months of doing lectures and research. Probably the most enjoyable time of my life, especially as my wife was able to come with me. We traveled whenever I had a break. The soundtrack of my journeys was Comes a Time. In my view, first level Neil classic and much more "enjoyable" for me than Harvest. Field of Opportunity is a joyous mix of loss, humor, and optimism. "I've been wrong and I'll be there again" is a blunt statement of human reality. I would drive and laugh as I listened to this song, knowing full well that however much my ego wanted to "find the truth" whatever I find out will be minimal and confined. "Look Out For My Love" is equally brilliant and original. How can you not love Neil Young?
