Nelson will be honored with a 90th Birthday Hollywood Bowl Tribute featuring 30+ guests, including Neil Young, Snoop Dogg, Beck, Kacey Musgraves, and many
others.

Stapleton, the Chicks, the Lumineers, Ziggy Marley, Miranda Lambert,
Tom Jones, Sturgill Simpson, Sheryl Crow, Billy Strings, Norah Jones,
Tyler Childers, Margo Price, Bob Weir, the Avett Brothers, Allison
Russell, Leon Bridges, Norah Jones, Warren Haynes, Lukas Nelson, Charley
Crockett, Lyle Lovett, Nathaniel Rateliff, Rosanne Cash, Orville Peck,
Edie Brickell, Particle Kid and Warren Haynes. More artists are also
expected to join the bill.
“I can’t think of a
better way to spend my 90th birthday than being surrounded by family,
friends and of course the fans who made this all possible,” Nelson said
in a statement. “It’s an honor to perform with such an incredible group
of artists at such an iconic venue.”

The video of For What Its Worth is truly painful to watch. Granted; Stephen couldn’t hear himself at the start, but it never really got better. Sadly a train wreck from start to finish, and even though it was recorded from the nose bleed section, I don’t think better sound quality would improve my opinion at all. I’m not happy saying this, as I have always genuinely loved Stills, but his vocal delivery here was completely lacking.

I have seen some great video. I have not yet witnessed the Stills effort. Willie & Neil’s “Are There Any More Real Cowboys?”… a hood question, indeed!
Neil sounded great, played respectfully of the Man of Honor. I love Willie. Ever heard his Reggae album? It is fantastic (Countryman)
Willie has released a huge number of great albums even in the last 10 years. His producer Buddy Cannon writes great songs & is a valuable copilot for Willie & the Boys (Piano missing, sis Bobbie Nelson, RIP. So recently taken from Willie’s band, his trusted band mate, rock solid, and a musically impressive mentor to her lil brother Willie.

@ Dan - we do hear you here. As we all know, the decline has been ongoing for sometime.
But here's our perspective. Stephen knows it. neil knows it. We all know it.
But they carry on because that have to. Because they are brothers.
Regardless of how "poor" this might be, the spirit shines on. And that's what's most important.
Wouldn't most artists just say no. I'm not going to "lower myself" by doing this. It will "hurt my career".
How many of us have all done such things? Tell the truth now. Done what is right for the career, over what s right.
Does your conscience bother you?
Neil did what was right... what a brother does.

@ Alan - what we saw from afar @ the Hollywood Bowl was a birthday party for the ages. Seriously, who wouldn't want to be able to say @ 90 (or any age) look at all the people who love me?
That is a life worth living, IOHO.
Which is why we long ago started our somewhat infamous campaign: Nobel Peace Prize for Willie Nelson for Farm Aid
As we often say to many of our VERY SERIOUS friends and acquaintances who just laugh at the silly notion:
OK, name someone else in serious contention here? Someone truly worthy. Someone who is truly selfless about making things better and right.
Hell, some even want Willie for President?! Now as crazy as that seemed years ago, there are those still today who think it would be an improvement ... or couldn't be worse.

ps - we can't emphasize strongly enough that Neil's call to perform “Are There Any More Real Cowboys?” as way of bringing Willie onto the stage @ the Hollywood Bowl this weekend was a very shrewd calculation.
To play that song, to ask that question deep in Southern California territory was a bold move.
Everyone KNEW what Neil was saying.
To ask the question, is to answer the question.
So. “Are There Any More REAL Cowboys?” Anyone?
@ Thrashers : I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiments, and my reaction to Stephen’s performance wasn’t meant as anything other than shear sadness in witnessing a musical hero self destruct on stage. I still admire the man for the work he has given, and his intentions to honor Willie, but sooner or later everyone has to open the door for the next generation to carry the torch. Thankfully; Neil is still creating, and performing at the top of his game. Sadly this isn’t the case with Stephen Stills. No offense intended at all, I just feel that Neil is an exception to the rule. But time waits for no one.

Now that the illusion of eternal youth comes to an end as being what it always was, you guessed it: an illusion, one could come to the conclusion that being ready to concede to the frailty and vulnerablity of advanced and old age is a sign of moral straightness and strength. Also in public our heroes finally have grown up.
More recent media appearances or concerts by Joni Mitchell or Marianne Faithfull, also Joan Baez, for me are examples of that attitude. How hard to accept that still is I realized when the great Emmylou Harris signed a CD for me after a concert in Munich acouple of years ago. I enjoyed her concert very much and when I told her that she really "stood her ground", I could see by the expression on her face, that what was meant as a typical European understatement and a compliment was received almost as something in the vain of "OMG, has it come that far already?" (I knew better next time, when I met Lucianda Williams.) It occurs to me that women are earlier to submit to their reality, and I almost feel compelled to call out to the old guys, to leave their top forties behind and keep their own promises to the real, if it weren't for the selfish interest to see them one more time.
In a way Neil Young is an exception as he is still creating substantial music that I can relate to, but also for him and his loyal fans it is true: Growing old is nothing for the weak of heart. I wrote this with my parents in mind, both alive in their 80's and with my 60th birthday drawing closer. It never was foreseeable that we would see both our heroes and our parents in old age while getting old ourselves. Sociologically this is a first, something like landing on the moon?
