Something Different ... If You Really Care ...

Just like they say in Greendale: "You can make a difference if you really try."

The homeless will only use the money to buy alcohol, drugs and cigarettes -- the underlying cause of their predicament. So we've always been advised to provide food, clothing etc.

This is the story of Andy. It's a heartbreaking story but the comments are so uplifting.

Andy has been sleeping rough in Cardiff, Wales for the last three weeks. Andy's dad is an alcoholic and he feels safer sleeping outside than at home with family.

When I first saw Andy he was sleeping. As a rule, I never wake anyone up. Andy shares about how he has been walking around at night and desperate for sleep. Sleep deprivation is common for homeless people sleeping rough. A good nights sleep is rare.

Although Andy shares about rough sleeping in the United Kingdom, the challenges of living on the streets homelessness are the same in the United States and Canada. People don't just walk by, they spit on you and call you names. People even with good intentions give an overabundance of food yet refuse to help with money or other basics needs besides Mcdonalds or Burger King meals.

Andy's story is powerful. He's only 21 years old and he's experiencing more pain and suffering than any young adult should. Sadly, Andy's story is far too common among homeless young adults. Instead of giving a sandwich we all must work together to end homelessness.

Thanks to all of your support, we got Andy inside tonight. He found me a little while after this interview with all of the change he had made from panhandling in his hand and said "I am going to give this to a charity box." Just by helping him get inside tonight it changed everything.

Especially in these highly strenuous times, it's important that we all pull together, for each other and for our planet. Yet it's easier to talk the talk. So many of us feel unable to do or give as much as we'd like. The current crises continue to impact many of us at many levels, as we struggle to survive and thrive in the world we as humans have made for ourselves since civilization materialized.

The truth is, at this stage any good news comes as a welcome relief. Even the smallest singular act of compassion can help to restore a bit of confidence in the positive potential of our humanity. Thanks for all you do, or try to do, in the name of manifesting that potential. And thanks to all those whose good works I haven't had the opportunity to see and commend through sites like this one. It is encouraging to be reminded that there are people out there who care. We must all do our utmost to act with wisdom upon the compassion we feel for our fellow humans, earth-dwellers, and all living things.

We appreciate the feedback here. We realize this was a tough video to watch but -- as you indicate -- feel it's important to maintain contact w/ the true reality that there's real suffering out there.
