NOW PLAYING: Neil Young's Fireside Sessions #2 | NYA

Neil Young's "Fireside Sessions #2" is now playing in Hearse Theater | Neil Young Archives.

UPDATE: Immediately after this posting here on TW yesterday, the post below vanished from NYA. We assume that this will re-appear later today. Relax, breathe, and remain calm.

As noted previously, Neil Young's "Fireside Sessions #1" webcast has broken all previous traffic records on Neil Young Archives. The webcast has been considered as one of the best artistic efforts put forward since the CV-19 crisis hit, per Rolling Stone's "Quarantine Comfort: The Best Livestreamed Performances So Far".

More on Neil Young's Fireside Sessions #1, with setlist, photos, comments, etc.

Thank you N&D!

Far out man ... lookin forward to Mr Earths declaration of peace. love and onion slides .
How fitting , that he is now a Yank , in the epicenter of God , Guns and Trump who thinks we will be hunting for Easter Eggs in three weeks .

Borders from Americana are closed , thank-you so very much .
We use our guns up here for hunting wild game , plain and simple .. food in our bellies .
Any good hunter will tell you ... you can't harvest a deer , a moose , a Canada Goose with a Glock or assault rifle .
What else is there to fear ?

My plea

I've loved watching the first episode and I'm going to watch the second in one hour from now, after dinner in my quarantine in Rome, Italy.

Even before enjoying :-) I just would like to reach Neil and Daryl and ask them to release all these magnificent tiny shows to us subscribers. Please let us download these streams...

Thanks so much
Roberto

Yet another homegrown love letter from Neil & Daryl. This one is a bit more polished than the first one, but still homemade and blissful. Daryl is doing a wonderful job filling and editing, very creative and a joy to watch. Some of my favorite songs included here; On The Beach, Birds, Words, and Love and Only Love. A charming demonstration for washing ones hands, and another short word from WATER, the sponsor. I hope they continue these lovely performances coming, as they are really helping us all get through this nightmare together. A gracious and loving gift from two souls who are authentic and gifted. Thank you Neil and Daryl for caring enough to put these together for ALL to enjoy.

Love and Only Love indeed ❤️🙏🌎

Peace

Something to be said about universal healthcare Eh !

Stock up on yer Oscar Myer wieners there lads , us redcoats up here are just going to wait it out ... fer another torching of the Whitehouse ... she'll be a grand wieney roast ... EH !

#Fort Mac
Because of your handle I take it that you hail from Fort McMurray. Maybe you are even one of the many Newfoundlanders who ended up there to destroy some more of this planet by digging up the tarsands after the fish were all gone. But maybe that's just my assumption. However, I know, if you travel down south through the Frazer valley in BC or if you talk to native elders in Northern Alberta or the Territories you won't hear songs about four strong winds but the echo of a collective terror and grief still to be felt a hundred years later. The Spanish flu killed many thousands of the aboriginal inhabitants of Western Canada. Maybe there is just room for you because a lot of people died in a pandemia?
So if you got friends in this world, it is not the time to laugh about the helplessness of others, nor is it the time to be wise-cracking about what should have been done. (Maybe later, when the people are on the rebound). For now people around the world have to withstand the surge apart and together. The clown in the White House is of no big help, but some American, Canadian or German might find the cure or the vaccine, to save thousands of Canadians. What do we know?

At 3/26/2020 08:08:00 PM, Blogger Dan Swan said...

...... I forgot to mention that Four Strong Winds was the perfect opener for this second episode of Fireside Sessions. Just perfect with the snow falling, and that last shot as Neil turns away from the camera and looks out over the landscape and sighs. A lovely moment to be sure.

Peace.

Bob Dylan casually reminding us all why we care today by generously releasing a very interesting 17-minute track called "Murder Most Foul". It feels like something he's really gone to town with and, on first listen, sort of comes over like a cross between a documentary, a speech and a music playlist set to instrumentation. As with everything he comes up with, it is most certainly worth a listen.

Onto Mr Young. I'll start with one of my usual cantankerous observations (read to the end before getting upset).

The record-breaking viewing numbers of the Fireside Sessions counts for very little: in fact, you can put a video on YouTube called "THE ULTIMATE FAILS COMPILATION" and fairly straightforwardly get over two hundred million views (yes, this video exists: no, I didn't create it).

Grabbing people's attention for a moment was much harder to do before we all had smart phones.

We live in a world so saturated that the number of choices of how to spend our time (and the sheer number of people) are so numerous that they might as well be unlimited.

And in these conditions, the popular thing isn't always the right one. At the end of all this, McDonald's will still be more popular than that small organic vegan place down the road: the one run by people who care about the environment, about animal welfare, and about you. And you will still have to choose where and what to eat.

And all it takes is an invisible killer, mutated from a bat (though next time it will just as likely be from a factory-farmed animal in the USA, China or Europe) to start effortlessly tearing down the mass-driven and tightly-knitted world that has been built over the last few decades.

Because even in the best-case scenario, the indirect damage of COVID-19 has already been done. Those who come out of this situation still in search of growth and ever-bigger numbers and expansion have probably missed one of the disciplinary points that the world is now harshly inflicting on us.

Neil's old friend John Tyson is probably in this latter category, but the damage his factory farms are doing to the environment and animals could justifiably be described as mass-market criminality. Was this ever the Tyson family's intention? I assume not. Most people aren't evil. But the more huge a system becomes, the more dangerous it becomes. And the more effortless it becomes to sacrifice basic values.

And again, all it takes is something small, something so small that we cannot even see it, to start tearing it all down. Whether that something is a malicious virus deadly to us all, or a single activist handing out flyers on the street.

Focus on the small, zoom in, and you will start to spot where the real influence is now developing.

(See part 2 below)

(Part 2)

And sadly, it's only in these times of world-wide crisis that we start to wake up, to really feel alive and appreciate what we have. Even the water we drink and the air we breathe seems to have more flavour; everything is sharper, the music is clearer and more alive.

The most expensive media player in the world can not buy you that sort of humble richness and appreciation. A "house of love", as touchingly brought to life in Neil's song Eternity, is only fully appreciated when it comes under threat, or when you don't have one. And both situations are exhausting and anxiety-inducing.

And it's in these uncertain and anxiety-inducing times that we also start to see who really cares.

My last lengthy comment on Thrasher's blog of 2019 was one about artistic generosity, how it is needed more than ever. And what makes Neil's Fireside Sessions so genuinely special is the sensation of an artist really caring, of generously sharing something with us. Something for us, not just for him.

If this were something simply designed to make the stats go up, to exclusively make money or to promote a self-absorbed agenda, then the value would be entirely lost. In a mass-market world, the precious thing is the caring small details that are getting lost.

The focus, the intensity and quality, the effort (just the right amount and in the right place), the attention to detail. The willingness to open up. The caring.

These Fireside Sessions are a small thing, but they are also a precious thing. And I guarantee you right now that the Weld Series will also be a special thing, at the other end of the musical scale. I hope he goes through with it, because the sheer passion and regimented intensity of those shows is going to delight many of you. Return To Greendale is also something you should be excited about. There is a lot to look forward to, and much to appreciate right now, as well.

If you enjoyed any of these recent films by Neil, share the link with a friend who might also like them. This might be particularly appreciated if they are stuck at home with their Sister-In-Law who they normally only have to tolerate on Boxing Day. And feel free to share this comment, as well.

Take care everyone, please.

Scotsman.

@ Roberto - regarding downloading streams, that doesn't seem to be the NYA model w/ subscriptions. Maybe for a fee?

agree, Birds was stunning and a nice treat with the pan to a bird sculpture up in the air.

@ Dan - nice way of putting: "a homegrown love letter from Neil & Daryl."

they are truly to be cherished for the ages. And we're so lucky that N&D are perfectly positioned to pull this off w/ such taste and class.

just love how the falling snow accumulated on N's hat, jacket and guitar. who would have ever thought we'd see such images and sounds?!

as always, Love and Only Love indeed ❤️

@ Ft Mac - again.

Dear Ft Mac,

eh!

@ Unknowns - God bless you too.

@ Dionys - thanks for trying to enlighten Ft Mac.

But it's futile. We've been through all of this a 1000 x's. This is pure trollage and a waste of everyone's precious time.

However, longtime readers know that wee continue to root out the trolls one by one. They're all going down. way down.

When they pop up here it puts a giant target on their account.

the good guys are winning and will win.

trust us on this. the best is yet to come. dark to light, a son will rise and come out tomorrow

Keep Calm, No Fear, Shut It Down, and Keep on Rockin'

Winter is the best time of all and Spring is here!

@ Keith - we think we can expect even more magnificence to come. and maybe a new song or 2?!

possibly a new tune during the D's snow angel?!

Scotsman, I'm glad to read your comments. The idea that nature is pushing back is hard for many to fathom. We have humanized nature to such an extent it seems to be under our full control but the opposite is true. Humanization of nature is only the manner in which the environment appears. At the deeper levels, laws of nature operate relentlessly so that all of our abuse will count. Hence the celebrations of record corn, soybean, and hog yields when the real consequences of those yields show up in the Gulf of Mexico. Our behavior is consistently self-destructive. You are clearly right, some other pandemic could result and will result from a virus or bacteria when "bio-security" fails at animal confinements. On this pandemic, I cannot help but to think of Camus- that the plague will appear again and again "for the bane and enlightenment of men." Let's hope against hope that it is, for once, enlightenment.

I have gone more to poetry than music, the intense concentration on words for the sake of words. To think about how to choose words to mirror the reality of things, rather than what they can do for us or how they can be manipulated for for production. Thanks Scotsman, you are clearly a good person- over the distance I can hear your spirit and thoughts.

Dan, thank you for all your insightful comments, good to be with some kindred spirits in these awful days. My wife and I worked in the garden all day and I did some home repair as well. These are mindful and healing activities. I kept thinking of Neil's song "After the Garden." I came in a few minutes ago and listened to it. What will we do after the garden is gone?

At 3/29/2020 10:31:00 PM, Blogger Dan Swan said...

Perhaps we will all be blessed with the opportunity to plant a new garden when all is said and done. I know that as long as we keep working together for a better day, we still have a chance. This is a moment when we all are given the opportunity to show our authentic selves and come together and support each other. Everyone is capable of kindness and now would be a good time to share it with everyone we can. I have faith.

Peace 🙏
