Neil Young & Crazy Horse Tour: "May Have To Wait" | NYA
After clearly indicating no concert tour plans for 2020, Neil Young reversed himself earlier this week and announced that he would indeed tour with Crazy Horse this year, after all.
But things change...
Posting on The Balance of Nature | NYA, Neil writes that a Neil Young & Crazy Horse Tour "may have to wait" due the global Coronavirus.
Previously, Neil Young said that scheduling a concert tour had been difficult because modern multi-functional arenas must be booked a year in advance.

Bummer about the tour and hope we get out of this soon. Talk is all over the place on this flu from bio weapon to common cold but mainly it is being reported in published sources as a rather strange mild cold that hits certain people really hard a second time causing a fast acting scurvy and shutting down of kidneys.
Strange how Wuhan is the location of a fictional outbreak like this one from decades ago.
One must remember that Wuhan is among the most polluted places on earth and even installed 5G doesn't work very well there because of the poor air quality (well, 5G doesn't work well in fog or high humidity either, go figure). If you have a bad cold and smoke they call the smoking an infiltrate and put you on antibiotics right away so the air there is an infiltrate. It isn't surprising all the pneumonia with this in Wuhan.
This is the best source I've found about keeping current on what is being published about the virus which is Pub Med that is highly respected in medical circles and most are free to read (but, remember, these are the folks who got burned when the SARS got contained and public grant money dried up fast for research):

You won’t like my opinion but Neil should stop touring and do residencies instead. Better for his health, better for the planet and good for the economy of the city he would choose.

Did an interview with Aretha Franklin in the last century and when I ran out of three hours of tape for a fifteen minute interview (be prepared, right?) she started asking me questions about her career for another forty-five minutes. She had a fear of flying and had just completed a course at Detroit's airport. Told her she should find a venue and let people come to her but it was decades before she started to act on that and then it was too late.
Do think a residency is a good idea for Neil at this stage and he could mix it up big time.
Here in Durham, NC a songwriter named Jonathan Byrd just got the last Wednesday of the month at the 1,000 seat Carolina Theater. They do a regular three hour show at a bar here every Wednesday but this is going to take it up a notch or two.
I'm with you Chris...
Predictably unpredictable. It’s part of Neil’s charm to turn on a dime and reinvent himself. Sometimes three or four times in a week. But.....
You just have to love him just the way he is, or you’ll drive yourself crazy.
Peace.
@Jim - Kudos for the useful PubMed link but let us be clear: COVID-19 is absolutely not any kind of a mild cold. This is a deadly disease that has more in common with pneumonia than with colds or flu.
If you dig into the the PubMed link a bit you will find that you can access the full text of some very useful articles. For example:
https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.1002/jmv.25722
Sample text from the above article:
"On February 23, 2020, the number of people diagnosed with COVID-19 in China was 1879 times of that on January 10, 2020. They estimated the case fatality rate of COVID-19 to be 2.84% based on their patient pool."
and, a little later:
"Abnormalities in chest computed tomography (CT) images were found in 100% of the patients. Grinding glass-like and consolidation areas were found in 98% of the infected patients’ bilateral lungs."
If a fatality rate of 2.84% sounds OK, Dr. David Gorski points out that this is the fatality range for the notorious influenza pandemic of 1918-1919. That pandemic killed about 50 million people, that is, more soldiers than were KIA in WWI.
And, to be blunt, the Trumpian response, trying to make it about him and exerting strenuous efforts to bend pandemic-related information to political will, is going to be murderous.
But be aware that this is not a political stunt, it is not a mild cold or flu, it is a killer virus and we need real-time epidemiological expertise to manage this dangerous situation.
@ Jim - thanks for thoughts, background and links.
Given the gravity of subject here, we're going to try real hard not to editorialize on the subject. (yes, we hear clapping in the distance)
we guess we'll call it sickness gone...
... but as w/ all things -- and in particular life & death matters - please use higher than normal disCERNment.
so much chaff, so little wheat ... but wee repeat ourselves, yet again ...

@ Jonathan - we do hear you here and agree -- of course -- on Greendale themes.
Now if a Crazy Horse tour had been scheduled and then canceled due to CV, well now that would have been a major bummer.
But we really have to say, The Horse needs to be fearless. Not reckless. No Fear.
This is the time for the brave and the strong.
We need The Horse now -- more than ever. This is no time for the Horse to be in the pasture grazing about waiting for the coast to clear and all safe signs waved.
No. The People need The Horse blazing away in all of their most ragged glories.
"There's a field of green and an old red barn
Deep in the valley of hearts
If you want to go riding in the tall green grass
Try to not spook the horse"
Thanks Thrasher
I deleted my comment because Google started a relentless email assault on me because I posted through a different device than I normally do and it wouldn’t stop until I either ‘confirmed’ or ‘denied’ that it was me
good grief...
you are so right...and I’m glad we agree on how awful and corrupt the media is
I wish Neil would stop believing every narrative that comes along
was Grandpa a character or was that Neil railing against the media in Greendale?

Tin soldiers and Nixon coming,
We’re finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drumming,
Four dead in Ohio.
Gotta get down to it
Soldiers are gunning us down
Should have been done long ago.
What if you knew her
And found her dead on the ground
How can you run when you know?

I agree with Chris on the smaller venues would be a better fit. Would love to see him here in Oshawa Ontario at our theater The Regent. Come on Crazy Horse, drag Neil's ass home. Much respect. Cale
Absolutely no problem with NYCH doing a residency as long as it's in Glasgow or at a push Edinburgh!
tour back on. 4 old men vs. the virus. only the strong survive.
ps. still waitin' for that apology, "thrasher". man the fuck up.
