@ Adam2 - Calm yourself...count to 10 - breath in & breath out...then play Everybody Knows This is Nowhere (on vinyl, of course).
Peace.
Stop with the crybaby act. youre not the only 1 to not get a favorite song at a show. The shows are available for DL. Get your Thrasher and play it on repeat. Hey I didnt get my fav CH song Sedan Delivery when I saw Alchemy. So what.
In the not so olden days there were the HOGTTs (for explanation see Hyperrust)now we got the Wurlitzers, fans who think they are entitled to setlist cherry-picking. Nobody said anything about the two new songs or commented on the reappearance of Homefires, in a way a typical dark Neil Young joke about recent events...?
Chicago set wasn’t bad dude, chill. Mellow my mind.. one more sign, one of these days, war of man. Also you must not be a Le Noise fan. Those sets were great. As are these ones.
Its NOT that its just "my favorite song" and I didnt get it. It's his BEST/GREATEST song and is this is an ARCHIVES show. Why do some get it and some dont. I paid 500+ for the best seats.
Neil Young is not a jukebox. If you want to hear your favorite song go buy the CD and hit repeat. You bought a ticket for a LIVE SHOW unpredictability is part of that experience. Do we need to have warning labels for ticket purchases now? "Warning Performer is not an organ grinder and as such performances may or may not vary". I cherish every show that I get to see from this man and the few artists of his ilk that are still with us. Noone forced you to buy a ticket let alone two. Setlist are clearly not posted preshows because they are unpredictable. You can't make all the people happy all the time. Be glad for the experience and don't use your hair dryer while in the bath tub or shower.
Another great setlist last night in Madison. 2 new songs, some classics and some rarities.
What more could one ask?
@ Dionys - you're probably right about Homefires and typical Neil dark joke on last year's CA fires and the loss of his & Daryl's home.
@ Adam2 - consider re-reading your comments here over past days. As others have indicated, you're coming across as deserving entitlement. Also, what's with continuously bringing up the price you paid for tickets? Do you seriously feel that because of what you paid you deserve something more than those in the "cheap" seats?
So, like we offered earlier, why not head up to MPLS? Maybe you'll get what you're after? Maybe not?
fyi, we were at both CHI shows and thoroughly enjoyed, esp night #2. we consider ourselves blessed that we can sometimes make multiple shows.
There are those that know the price of everything but the value of nothing.
We won't bore everyone here with our previous thoughts on this subject but maybe review these posts in your leisure?

ps - offer still stands.
Maybe I'm missing something, but what was the second new song in Madison? He didn't do "Olden Days" (or whatever it is) there like he did in Milwaukee.
As for "Homefires," it was played at seven of the eight solo theater tour shows last year so no surprise to see it again in this year's setlist.
Regardless of what gets played when, I hope he never plays the same show over & over
I absolutely guarantee that if I went to a Minneapolis show, it would be the first show this year Thrasher is not played. I fucking hate my fucking life
If you buy Rust Never Sleeps, you can listen to the original version.
Excellent performance last evening in Madison. I remember seeing Neil at the Dane Coliseum throughout the 70's and early 80's, Then a loooong drought till yesterday. I Hope he enjoyed himself enough to return again.
The song selection and delivery came across very wistful and melancholic. Guess that's where the muse has lead him. Interesting to hear the early songs 45 to 50 years later sung by an "old Man".It brought a new sense of deepness in his phrasing and accents on words and phrases.
Catch him if you can. Minnesota it's your time to savor Neil
I can identify with Adam's sentiments to the extent that I drove up from SD to see Neil solo in LA on 3/30/14. It was a Saturday night and the crowd was loud and raucous. Terrible crowd. The moron next to me showed up hammered eight songs in yelling for "Hank to Hendrix," which had ALREADY BEEN PLAYED. Neil had played "Thrasher" the previous show. I too was irrationally pining for "Thrasher," although I sensed throughout the evening that it was unlikely due to the idiocy of the crowd. Sure enough, the encores were "Blowin' in the Wind" and "Unknown Legend," great songs of course but distinctly NOT "Thrasher."
My wife and I drove up to the next show two days later, a Monday. The crowd was much quieter and more respectful. (I was just thinking this morning that it would behoove people attending the acoustic shows to avoid alcohol and just stick to weed, but that might be the wisest policy regardless of setting.) When Neil came out for the encore you could hear the 12-string acoustic and tell he was tuning for "Thrasher." It felt like it took forever from the time he walked back out until he started it. It was enough time for me to get all teary and tell my wife: "He's gonna do it. He's gonna do it." And he did it and it was fucking spectacular, although I would add the caveat that as tremendous of a song as it is it almost seems like he has trouble taming it and doesn't have 100% confidence playing it. (Or didn't then, anyway. Maybe someone can comment on how Neil's playing it these days.)
If you are a true fan you wouldn't be so bitter. We all have songs we'd love to hear Neil play. But we take our chances when we go to these shows. I can understand being disappointed but you have a bitterness tha doesnt make sense. Also, if you look at Neil's setlists over the years his shows don't tend to change alot. A few changes here and there but back to back shows are rarely that different. Enjoy the experience for what it was and hope for better next time. Throw you hatred down man
Adam it seems as though there may be more to your anger than just a Neil concert. In all seriousness, hope you're ok and if you ever wanna talk about it just message me. Or anyone really. I'm trying to take a different approach to this whole online thing. Anyways, don't hate your life. Best of luck
I wouldn’t want Neil to play thrasher at every show anyways. Its a great song and shouldn’t be overdone. Heart of gold cough cough
Any tribute to Pegi?
Right. Only the shows I'm at is when he won't play it
Yeah, and he does that on purpose, just to mess with you. Don't buy any more tickets, he will know you are in the audience and only play boring songs.
I attended both gigs (and the crowd was much more well-behaved in Madison). For the 23rd, I considered Harvest Moon an ode to Pegi, and on the 24th, I believe even more so that Razor Love was in that same vein. Razor Love alone made Madison worth the price of admission, as did Cortez the Killer and Thrasher the previous evening.
I recorded both nights from the balcony. I'm in the process of producing them now. It's rather tedious, turning an acoustic gig recording into an enjoyable listen that doesn't cause your head to explode from audience noise/applause (and even more so since I'm quite anal in my quest for a near-perfect listening experience).
In Milwaukee, I scolded any vocalizations near me, as my journey had cost me $240 this night/$205 for the next night, the art of getting my gear in, attending 3 prior shows over 12 years at a cost of about $700, etc. all in the hope of hearing an acoustic Cortez, Thrasher, or Ambulance Blues at some point. This pilgrimage was seemingly being rewarded and I wasn't about to have this climax stained by some dweebs who were comfortable pissing on their neighbors' enjoyment. My scoldings will hopefully be suppressed into the sonic ambience of the recording as I make my edits.
In Milwaukee, I shushed the guy-next-to-me's kid as I quickly distinguished the opening rhythm of Cortez (and began internally sublimating, having to release a few awe-struck sighs). Within a few seconds of that I also chastised the guy behind me who had been making off-rhythm percussive noises during a few of the prior songs, as well as other random hoots whenever he got an ear boner. As soon as he began talking, I turned and blurted out "Stahhp tawkin'!" In response, he softly whispers aloud, "That's the first thing I've said?" :P
And you know what? After that, it was the fuckin' final one as well. No local incursions for the rest of the evening.
It was a beautiful 2 night experience. My only regret is not having the money to catch the remaining 4 nights in Minnie. There are really only 3 songs remaining on my dream sheet now: Ambulance Blues, Give Me Strength, and White Line (acoustic).
Terry funku , would love to hear that Milwaukee recording when it's all set, please let me know
