Neil's comments on NYA T-C are intriguing for the setlist tonight:
"The songs are coming back. Here they are! Wow. They are are not the ones that usually show up. They are better known. Because they are easy to sing they are perfect. This is the moment to explore their grooves, their canyons, their computer history."

This fucking ridiculous. WHY DID CHICAGO GET FUCKING SCREWED. I WANT MY 500 DOLLARS BACK
I was at Chicago and thought the show was superb as did those that were with me. I see you continually commenting negatively on a fabulous show. We actually got 4 more songs than a prior show that tour
Yeah and the second night? 2 minor changes. Number of songs dropped. Then later shows get back to back nights packed with rarities. I didnt pay to see both shows for 2 unique songs the second show.
Adam2
It’s a shame you payed at all. Your seat could have been taken by someone who understands that the experience as an audience member is to exist with Neil, not merely to be ‘entertainined’ by him. It must be hard to have had such expectations and to be let down but you’ve sadly missed the point. Conduct unbecoming....
Amen, Jamjet. Adam's comments have been weird ever since these shows were announced. I too would love for Neil to perform all my favorite songs at my favorite local venue. That is not a realistic expectation...
Thanks for the setlist, and I hope everyone enjoyed themselves last night!
Thanks for the early setlist anon. you beat everybody. oh when will the Bozos shut the hell up. No more alcohol sold.

Jamjet, you have no idea whatsoever what you are talking about. Maybe I'm upset because I paid 500 dollars for 2 shows, and got a second night in a row of the exact same setlist without any rarities an ARCHIVES PRE SALE SHOW should entail
That review at jsonline is GARBAGE
MUCH better one here, from a real Rustie:

Oh I "co existed with Neil". On two nights where he played the same fucking set. And later shows in the same God damn tour, he plays rarities left and right with completely different setlists both nights. Wow I'm so lucky
Thanks Anne! Much better.
@ adam - why not run up to Madison tonight and give us a report? If disappointed, we'll run fundraiser for you here on TW.
peace
I almost got tix to this Thrash. That's why it hurts. And I'm not a jerk who hates Neil. I love Neil and like you know that Thrasher is his greatest song and the most pure expression of NY.
I didnt have the money. I didn't have the money for Chicago.
You are a lucky person indeed Adam2. You managed to see him twice!
Last nights show, for me anyway...... was amazing!
Adam2 - call a whaaaaaaambulance
@ jam jet- would love to hear more from you on last night, please.
Neil says Great Crowd last night. What show did that reviewer attend. Fake review I guess.Check the Times Contrarion section that Neil wrote.
The reviewer found the crowd rude. Im sure theres many times where they were. It doesnt make the review fake. But yea, whats most important is the performer didnt. If youre frustrated at the song selection well you pay your money and take your chances. Like is a constant crap shoot of unknowns.
Adam, if your thing is set list variation and rarities (cant blame you) next time buy cheap(er) seats in the balcony and see more shows ... Neil plays what Neil feels like playing ... we all know that if you go in to a Neil show w expectations you will be likely be disappointed ...
That reviewer has a history of trying way too hard with his "hot takes"...
He's the same guy responsible for this review, an egregious sin of blasphemy for which I will never forgive him

It's a known fact, backed up by science, that Willie has never put on a bad show...
One More Sign. Never had been played anywhere. Rare enough for you?
The show was shaping up to be an all time GREAT one!
Neil was clearly channeling loss, grief and melancholy with both his song selections, pacing and interpretations of his classics and he was in the zone like I’ve rarely seen him.
As it progressed the crowd got rowdier and It was annoying but those in the crowd shouting were out of love, not anger or bitterness.
You could tell Neil was getting pissed and he dropped a few hints.
Finally, just like the second night acoustic show in Chicago years ago, got fed up, played a few more and left.
Unfortunately, It happened obviously during don’t be denied.
Having said all that, last night was the best solo NEIL I’ve seen in over 50 shows going back to 1974.Even better than that epic acoustic show at Red Rocks many years ago.
If some in the crowd had been just a bit more subdued in their exuberance and love, it easily coulda been a 2-3 hour show!
My guess is if Madison can be a bit more restrained, tonight could be EPIC!
Neil WANTS and NEEDS to play these songs given all that’s happened over the last several years...
If we allow him, this could be the BEST EVER!
Adam, it's all one song.
Neil does not play two- to three-hour solo shows these days. Here's what he had to say about last night in the Times-Contrarian: "We had a great time in Milwaukee. Played some songs for the folks! It's always great to get the first one behind you. What a crowd! - a real NYA experience."
And he did play five more songs after Don't Be Denied, which others have said was abandoned because of tuning issues.
I felt there was some rude behavior at the Milwaukee show...but Neil did not seem phased at all. I have a pretty low threshold for the stupid yelling in the middle of an acoustic song and I would prefer to hear Neil's guitar work to the end of a song rather than a chorus of Ric Flair-esque "woo"s. I also can do without people singing along with Neil (which seemed more prevalent last night than any other show I've attended). The most annoying behavior was cell phone related. Lots of folks ignoring ushers requests to stop and annoying flashes of light. Crotchety complaining aside, it was a fantastic show. Better version of Thrasher than I had previously seen in Chicago a few years back. Interesting new song that referenced the recent fires. Somber tone throughout. Seemed to make it a point to bring Harvest Moon to a more dramatic conclusion. The incomplete Don't Be Denied was a nice tease (which included a dramatic hand raised stop sign when he ended it). Could never hear Heart if Gold again and be okay with that. But cool to hear Mansion on the Hill on acoustic and Like a Hurricane (though I love the pump organ version). Cortez is always welcome...along with Cowgirl and My My Hey Hey. Cherish each show folks.
I was at the Milwaukee show and found some of crowd to be rude, but Neil did not seem phased at all. I always find it to be a head-scratcher when folks scream nonsense in the middle of an acoustic song. This also goes for the odd chorus of Ric Flair-esque "WOOS" that erupt as he is trying to close out a song. He did seem to me to make a point to re-end Harvest Moon in a more dramatic and proper way after the crowd assumed he was done. I am also not a huge fan of people singing along with Neil (which happened during the entire EKTIN). Those crotchety complaints aside...it was a fantastic show. Interesting new songs, including one that referenced the recent California fires. Cool to hear Mansion on the Hill on acoustic. Like a Hurricane, Cortez, My My Hey Hey, and Out on the Weekend are always welcome. Better version of Thrasher than I had previously seen in Chicago a few years back. The tease of Don't Be Denied was pretty wonderful (along with a very dramatic raised hand as he ended it early). After each show I could rundown a huge list of songs I wished he had played...but fuck, he isn't going to play a 5 hour set. Could go the rest of my life without hearing Heart of Gold...but that's just me. Cherish every show....

I thought the show was great. Mansion was so unexpected- I was over the moon instantly. Somone requested everybody knows and he played it. +1 for the song shouters haha..
I don’t really mind when people sing along to certain songs.. I get why people don’t like that, but when we all sang my my hey hey I had chills. I thought the crowd was positive and enthusiastic- not like Chicago last year, which was more rude and aggressive “PLAY OLD MAN, OLD MAN”- this show wasn’t like that.
Let the people celebrate his music.. The crowd was pretty cool. Maybe it was just my section, maybe it’s just me.
At any rate that was the best solo show I’ve seen.
Nailed it, my man
Watch and see what happens in Madison
So, 20 songs tonight in Madison (with a reportedly well-behaved crowd), 19 last night. So much for the cut-it-short theory.

Apologies Thrasher, I have been traveling
I was lucky enough to manage center front row seats with my wife.
For me, a Neil concert is always preempted with the anticipatory thought of: “Is Neil going to connect with us tonight?” “Will a 5 minute song morph into a 20 minute jam?”
You never know exactly what Neil you’re going to get. It is that journey of discovery which makes his shows so special.
Milwaukee confused me a tad. First, let me say it was, without a doubt, the best solo performance I’ve seen to date. There was something amiss. I don’t think it was a reaction to the crowd as a news article suggest. Yes he did comment on the crowd noise and the tuning of his guitar, although in between songs while he was praised by the audience. He didn’t appear to have a defined set list for the night. He wandered aimlessly from the guitar cluster to the multiple pianos, sometimes hesitating at each as if deciding which to play.
My confusion lies in the aborted songs. He started playing “One of these days” on the piano. As the news articles have posted, he stood up mid song from the piano and finished on the guitar. What I saw prior to him standing up was this, while playing he turned toward the crowd while seated as if to get up, I whispered to my wife “something’s up”. Immediately thereafter he stood up and walked over to his chair and picked up a guitar. No one knew whether he would remain with “one of these days” or not. He did.
When he aborted “Don’t Be Denied”-one of my favorites- and stuck out his hand, I didn’t see it as due to the crowd, maybe I was so damn immersed while listening to Neil that I didn’t hear the crowd. When he stuck out his hand, his hand was turned sideways not upright, as if putting your hand in front of your face to block a bright light. It appeared labored, hesitant and unsure, as if he couldn’t make up his mind. I just didn’t see it as a gesture of annoyance with the crowd but more as not feeling connected to that song.
Neil played one song on the electric, “Ohio.” It was grungy and thunderous. Probably the most passionate rendition I’ve ever witnessed.
I typically insist on purchasing a few extra tickets for friends in hopes they will have a near spiritual experience, as I do. This night would have made that happen.
We made the trek from Arizona and only wished we had committed to more of the big M shows.

I find myself back in Milwaukee where I grew up as my Mom has had two major strokes over the last year, not sure what her future holds. Not sure if getting back to Vegas is in my future either. And now winter has set in.
So the announcement of Neil coming to town was most welcome news.
First show of a quick run, coming just months after his marriage and losing his house in the wildfires and just weeks after Pegi died- it would be especially interesting to see how was doing, what he had to share this time around.
From the first few chords of Mansion on the hill I could feel we were in for a very special night. As Neil said this night, " they really did a blue ribbon job" with the Riverside theatre. I've seen many shows here including Neil in 92 and the sound and view has always been everything you could hope for. Even from where I was all the way in the back row. He was pulling out the more familiar stuff from his incredible catalog and something just felt right about it even though I've always tended to pull for some of the deeper cuts. The two debut tracks he played this evening were very moving for me , I'm especially looking forward to his next release if this is where his head and heart are at, very touching stuff.
The crowd was not the most disrespectful I've come across at a Neil show. In fact from where I was at people were pretty respectful. Later on I would hear an increase in shouts for "old man", people proclaiming their love for him and so on. But their rapture didn't impose on my own experience for the most part. Whether the crowd bothered Neil as some reviews suggested, well his remarks the next day seemed to be what a nice crowd and as for the sudden stop during Don't be denied, where he raised his hand (basically the same angle he holds it on the back cover of csny American Dream album) it seemed as if it was just an indication to the audience that that's all and he was just kinda still exploring things somewhat on this first night, sorta how he went from piano over to guitar in the middle of One of these days. Seemed as if he wasn't quite locked in at some points.
But when and where he was locked in, wow, it was really magic at times. I think vocally he was really in the zone and even on guitar. And again, the setlist was a real joy.
As I left I ran into an old friend and bandmate, we had a misunderstanding years ago, lost touch and there in the theatre we made peace. More magic.
In one of the songs he debuted this night he sang of life going so fast and wanting a day that will last. That is exactly the kinda of day I had thanks Neil and this show. May he get his wish too. Peace
