VICTORY: Monsanto Loses Landmark Roundup Weedkiller Case; Jury Awards $289M to Cancer Victim

The "The Monsanto Years" reign of toxic terrorism is finally nearing the end at long last.

In a major legal victory against Monsanto, a jury verdict in the case of Dewayne Johnson vs. Monsanto Co., awarded $289.2 million in damages to plaintiff Dwayne Johnson, a former school groundskeeper who, after being required to spray Monsanto’s Roundup herbicide, is terminally ill with non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Last week, in a demonstration of solidarity, Neil Young and Daryl Hannah attended the Monsanto Roundup Trial in San Francisco. The Organic Consumers Association (OCA) today issued the following statement in response to the verdict:
“This verdict proves that when ordinary citizens, in this case a jury of 12, hear the facts about Monsanto’s products, and the lengths to which this company has gone to buy off scientists, deceive the public and influence government regulatory agencies, there is no confusion,” said Ronnie Cummins, OCA’s international director. “This is a company that has always put profits ahead of public safety, and today, Monsanto has finally been held accountable.

“We hope that this is just the first of many defeats for Monsanto, and that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will pull this product off the market immediately. In the meantime, OCA looks forward to the next steps in our own lawsuit against Monsanto, for misleading consumers about the safety of Roundup for humans and pets. And we are grateful to Mr. Johnson for bravely facing down the 'most evil corporation' in the world.”

The New York Times reported that internal emails revealed that 'independent' research studies were written by employees:
The documents underscore the lengths to which the agrochemical company goes to protect its image. Documents show that Henry I. Miller, an academic and a vocal proponent of genetically modified crops, asked Monsanto to draft an article for him that largely mirrored one that appeared under his name on Forbes’s website in 2015. Mr. Miller could not be reached for comment.

A similar issue appeared in academic research. An academic involved in writing research funded by Monsanto, John Acquavella, a former Monsanto employee, appeared to express discomfort with the process, writing in a 2015 email to a Monsanto executive, “I can’t be part of deceptive authorship on a presentation or publication.” He also said of the way the company was trying to present the authorship: “We call that ghost writing and it is unethical.”

Neil Young went "out on a limb" when he created The Monsanto Years. He took a risk. He didn't need to do it, except artistically, as an Environmental Warrior, he HAD to make the album. I am so proud of his accomplishments in this arena, not to mention my 30 year obsession which has only grown over time. I am a huge music lover and Neil is not the only group or artist I love, but he is nearest and dearest to me, more than all the rest. And there's some pretty damn good music out there. The Beatles, Dylan, Los Lobos, Wilco, etc. So many genres, Jazz, Blues, Rock and Roll... how many colors are there in a rainbow? Neil has ventured into unexpected territory time and again, reinventing himself so many times even the mythical Phoenix bird would be jealous.

What a great ride it has been so far. I am a big fan of the large majority of his work, and I love his more recent work about as much as anything else. His very latest album had crucial tracks and compelling commentary, heartfelt reflection, and psychedelic ear candy worth far more than the price of admission at the "Carnival." To see him play that song live with PotR would be the cherry on top of the cake as far as I'm concerned. Its not assured I will ever check this off of my Bucket List, but I will do what I can here in the Great Pacific Northwest to be there at the show when it goes down.

I was born late, in '68, which partly excuses my tardy start as a fan of Neil's music. I am an Environmentalist and an Activist of sorts, if Marching Against Monsanto for several years in Seattle counts as activism. I am very concerned and alarmed at the state of the Earth presently as Global Warming causes massive destruction of our formerly reliable natural processes on Earth. As 20 large wildfires burn in my home state of California, with our short sighted idiot of a president doing his best to hasten the demise of our planet (and those who rely on it, for all of the generations to come), I take comfort knowing that Neil Young is still out there fighting for us, for Nature, Organic Food, and Peace. Must we destroy Earth at such a rapid pace? Do we really need to exploit Tar Sands Oil and ship it in a Pipeline across the country, under the Missouri River, to export it overseas? It is the most polluting of all methods of Oil extraction. Neil is right about Fort McMurray, too. It does look like Hiroshima.

Thank you Neil Young for continuing the fight. Thank you PotR for backing him up. Long May You Run, and Thank You for all of the music!

Love and Affection, Alan in Seattle

PS -Why is everyone deleting their comments? I did as well, as I proof read my post after the fact, twice. Thank you Thrasher and Thrashette for separating the wheat from the chaff and serving it up so faithfully. You have surely earned your seat at the great gig in the sky, be it Valhalla, or elsewhere. I can't wait to see Neil and Jimi Hendrix play together. Chris Cornell, Tom Petty. Still lots of work to do here on Earth first, and some good times to be had. Peace. Alan in Seattle.

Alan... As of right now it’s just the two of us commenting here. My first post was more of a knee jerk reaction so I felt I needed to keep it simple.

I appreciate your passion and related with everything you said. I’m still worried that somehow Monsanto will continue with business as usual as they seem hell bent on destroying our planet for profit. We live in a time where money greed and ego seem to be the status quo which seems to feed the prevailing epidemic of entitlement here on earth.

Somehow the people of Earth need to recognize that only Matt Damon can live on Mars, so we need to share this beautiful planet as ONE species and let go of concept of boarders and politics and cultural differences and celebrate the fact that we are all family. We all need the same things to be safe and fed and loved. Shelter and a sense of purpose, and knowledge. This world can support everyone with everything we need to fulfill these basic needs as long as we work together. We just need to want to bad enough or we won’t survive.

Thanks Alan & Dan for standing up and supporting this critical jury verdict.

Already, the verdict is having an impact. Bayer stock $ is plummeting and stores are pulling the Roundup product from shelves.

We know who's gonna stand up.

Good for Uncle Neil!

Everyone is becoming awake and aware so if you don't have transparent integrity in any field you are gonna be in trouble. Have a feeling Big Pharma is next keeping people just well enough and holding back cures. Just looking at vaccines and the Cochrane Database, the gold standard of comparative studies, Big Pharma is in very serious trouble in terms of integrity.

"Studies funded from public sources were significantly less likely to report conclusions favourable to the vaccines. The review showed that reliable evidence on influenza vaccines is thin but there is evidence of widespread manipulation of conclusions and spurious notoriety of the studies. The content and conclusions of this review should be interpreted in the light of this finding."

Climate change is clearly here but there is an integrity issue with the cause being man made vs. the sun when Grand Solar Minimum happens. Sadly, the prep for Global Warming vs. Grand Solar Minimum is the exact opposite of each other so that is a pressing issue. Grand Solar Minimum is here now and is a regular cycle every 420 years when Jupiter and Saturn are on one side of the sun and the earth between. The sun gets quiet and the earth is pulled a little further away. Have you noticed the sun has gone from mellow yellow to white in the lifetime of a Neil Young fan who was alive when "Heart Of Gold" was a single with "Sugar Mountain" as a b-side? Everything spins, as above, so below, and the sun is not in the same part of space now. Lordy, those evil Russians are on top of this scientifically, too.
