So in memory of the 30 years of Bridge School Benefit Concerts, readers have been submitting favorite memories. Let us know a favorite Bridge School Benefit Concerts and we'll try and post.

I'm often smiling at 4:20....Dave Rawlings changed my entire approach to acoustic guitar playing....almost as much as Neil....he's just awesome

New song Children of Destiny available
Today. Also Amazon has taken down Hitchiker off its listings
Maybe we have a new album coming and
Neil is delaying the Hitchiker release
Typical Neil

I just got my notification that Hitchhiker is no longer available. As Joseph just eloquently stated.... typical Neil.

Just listened to Children of Destiny free on Spotify. Eh, it somewhat has a nursery rhyme feel to it, not too dissimilar to some of his work on Storytone. The stronger parts of the song are those with full band/orchestra involvement, the weakest parts are the quiet ones with Neil's weak warbly vocals standing alone in desperate isolation.

Of course those are my thoughts after just one listening, and I do want to listen at least a few more times. The lyrics seem to be fairly simple, but far from Neil's worst (or best). Graded on a curve, I'd say the track is average and I'm glad Neil is still creating new music. There will be plenty of time later on to re-visit the vaults...

If Hitchhiker has truly been cancelled, all I can do is laugh and be thankful that ole' Shakey continues to live up to his nickname. He remains as consistently inconsistent as ever, and as always,

"Take my advice
don't listen to me"

I've listened a few more times, and damn, I'm finding it to be catchy! No, it's not a classic by any stretch, but it has its moments when the lyrics, vocals and music work very well together, interspersed with Neil's earnest longing vocals.

The lyrics as I heard them:

Stand up for what you believe
Resist the powers that be
Preserve the land, and save the sea
For the children of destiny--
the children of you and me..

Should goodness ever lose
and evil steal the day?
Should happy sing the blues
and peace would fade away
What would you do, what would you say?
How would you act on that blue day?

Stand up for what you believe
Resist the powers that be
Preserve the ways of democracy
So the children can be free--
the children of destiny...

When money matters most--
and war is good for gain
the capitol is yours
the people feel the pain, they feel the pain
They walk the streets
While the bombs fall in the rain
the children hide--somewhere inside
While the bombs fall in the rain...

Stand up for what you believe
Resist the powers that be
Preserve the land, and save the sea
For the children of destiny
the children of destiny...

it is going to be the open and the 'encore' of the future gigs........
from my italian point of view the new song is going to cause a stir in US......

Sounds like you may have some inside information Joe. Please feel free to share more with us...

I'm really liking the song, but can't see it causing a stir here. Curious if there are other new songs Neil's recorded. Any inside knowledge?

Neil has repeatedly said he's been recording a new album with POTR at Shangri-La, he described it as halfway done around the first of the year. Kids of Karma is presumably the single from that.

Funny Topanga, I really like the slow parts of the song both lyrically and melodically. And the load parts not so much, though that might be more due to the orchestral part. Look forward to hearing the RAW version.

Sysrusher, I quite agree. And Topanga--"catchy" captures it fairly well for me. See my comment on the other thread for more.

I noticed, too, the apparent retraction on Hitchhiker. Well, new works must come first! That's my philosophy. As far as I know, it's not like the archival stuff is going to vanish from the planet if we don't get it today... or tomorrow... or next week... or next year.

Also, is it just me-or is this damn refreshing after the "hiatus" period? Of course, I understand that we needed time and space to mourn the Bridge School Benefit, but for me, this makes a nice change-up from the long string of Bridge School posts.

The archival stuff isn't disappearing from the planet, but longtime Neil fans are starting to. It's sad that they're leaving without getting to hear what's been described as some of the best music from arguably his most creative and productive period.
