I saw soundgarden open for neil in Chicago in '93. it rained all day long so the lawn was a giant mud pit. during soundgarden's set a lot of the folks on the lawn created a giant mudslide. we were in the seats, and I remember the guy next to me left during soundgarden's set, only to return afterward covered in mud!
their set was incredible. I still remember it to this day. they played a bunch of "superunknown" stuff which, of course, no one had heard before. and they killed it. they closed with "jesus Christ pose" played at almost double speed, and at the end they leaned all their instruments against the amps and left the stage in a maelstrom of feedback. fucking incredible.
