Wow, very moving, very powerful show. beautiful theatre … lots of banter about environmental issues … some of the new songs seemed to get to the heart of the matter regarding his personal life, as least that's what it seemed like to me. He completely ripped into Obama in Pocahantas in a way I could not have imagined … seemed like some audience members were agitated by that but Neil moved on quickly … the new songs were all good but the third one he played was amazing, potentially a classic in the making … he played Thrasher a dream come true (a tip of the hat to our Thrasher on TW? for all the good that he does?) … all in all wow, totally blown away by the show .. brought my friend who is a long time fan who hadn't seen him in like 20 years he was beyond moved by how relevant and mesmerizing (his words) Neil is in concert.

Just totally grateful that Neil keeps doing his thing

Thanks HarryO, Soldier Steve & Dan for the reports.

Always nice to see new songs in the setlist. And especially nice to see old rare favorites in the setlist also. ;)

Enjoy Night #2 in Boston!

At first I thought the first new song was "Slowpoke" , as the chord s were very close. So I'm calling it "The New Song That's Not Slowpoke".

It was either "Pocahantas" or "Thrasher" where he didn't change his harmonica, so the key wasn't right. He mentioned that mistake later.

He really did some goofing around at the end of "Mr. Soul", dropping his voice to a guttural, bluesy croak as he repeated the final lines.

I understand his frustrations, but just wait until both Houses are controlled by Big Frack and Big Pipeline.

The most personal show I've seen Neil perform.
Could really feel his pain with lost love / divorce / hope. Sometimes difficult to witness the way he bared his soul.
After all these years, I still don't get why people have to yell out and be obnoxious.
No excuses, not even for the casual fan.

Here was my quick morning Facebook post:
Awhile back I had a rather comical thread here about Gordon Lightfoot. Wouldn't you know, one of the (many) highlights of last nights Neil Young show in Boston was Neil's take on If You Could Read My Mind. In the wake of Young's recent announcement of upcoming divorce from wife of nearly 30 years, Pegi - this song, with references to 'movie queens' (New flame Daryl Hannah) - it was just perfect. And the line of 'I don't know where we went wrong but the feelings gone and I just can't get it back.' Wow. Tears in the eyes moment.

I am 48 and have loved Neil's music since my brother gave me DECADE for XMAs in 6th grade. I am now a single mom having gone through a painful divorce recently. Our 17th anniversary would have been Oct 4th and our first song was Harvest Moon, which he played. It was bittersweet hearing that song, but that's life. My ex husband and I also play guitar and we did a duet of Silver and Gold for two family weddings. In my wildest dreams I never saw us divorcing someday, but lies kill relationships. Period. I'm having major back surgery in Boston on Thursday and my mom passed away two weeks ago. That my cousin got me to this concert was one of the greatest gifts next to my awesome sons, of my life. I was so happy when he played Thrasher, it was the song he used the wrong harmonica on...But didn't matter. I used to write the lyrics to that song in my notebook in math class in high school. Three times through and class was over! But the only thing that put a dent in the magical night was the loud yelling and stupid comments from some people in the crowd. Too classy and intimate a venue, too special a night. That was a bummer, but I'll never let them ruin such a great evening of listening to music from one of the great artists of all time, or how in such a stressful time in my life I got to enjoy a few hours of great music and reflect on how it made me feel at different times in my life.

Neil also did "A Man Needs A Maid" just before "ohio". His voice is an amazing instrument. Still sounding ageless unlike most of his comtemporaries. VERY passionate performance.

An Evening With Neil Young.
What more could one want?
In my opinion, the man is one of the greatest musical artists of my lifetime. Mr.Young is one of few that make it look so easy, pouring every part of his heart and soul into his work. How is it that one mans mind can harbor such an endless river of melody?
What a show last night as Neil slowly strolled the stage among his fine tuned instruments softly touching each one he passed them by as if to say, hello old friend! He finally settles down with one and shares a musical memory with the audience. That unmistakable, Young voice accompanied with, guitar, piano, organ and shiny Harmonica in this one man show, filled this theater with the sound that Young fans starve for.
An aging artist concerned with the future of a failing world, Mr.Young cannot hold back from sharing his thoughts and feelings with his audience, it's in his music, it's in his voice, and in his heart. He's the real deal.
Forever Young.
