Just got back to my hotel, fantastic show. Had seats in the 2nd row, could hear his seat on the left piano creaking when he moved around!

Avoided reading up about LA and Dallas 1, and heard some songs I'd never think I would.

Someone else can write up the set list properly, but it did have Goin Back to start the second set, which Neil replaced with Cortez (!) and Pocahontas. Both 12 string + harp.

Encore on the set list was Comes a Time and Long May You Run, but he played Thrasher instead. Like I said, I avoided set llists beforehand, and was in complete shock! Amazing.

Special Deluxe Tracklist for A Letter Home!
Can't wait to hear this new album. Reproduced by Jack White and Neil Young. Will it be available at my local record store today at Record Store Day? Great that he included two Willie Nelson songs. And Girl From The North Country. Fantastic.

Great, great show. Told a story about begging a guitar from Stills because someone shot a bullet through it in a coffee shop ("probably singing one of my songs") and then he ripped into a passionate Southern Man. I guess that's a redundancy but I thought it ironic he told that story before singing that song in Dallas.
Anyway, why do older and allegedly mature fans feel the need to shout out like little attention whores? Some dick actually had the temerity to think we were interested in his own personal conversation with Neil. If the previous night's shout hadn't been ripped to shreds that morning by the Dallas Morning News, Neil probably wouldn't have been so kind to this old tool asking him about what he's written since he's "gotten clean."
Had to vent that somewhere. These old farts need to shut the hell up. No one cares about your knowledge of Neil's obscure songs.

and then the old fool having a conversation with himself said "I read your book" and was shushed into silence by the crowd. Weird. But NOTHING could spoil this evening.

There's a fool in every crowd, or in the case of Neil Young Solo shows, usually several.

A crowd should follow the fools and shout at them while they work.

DO NOT sing along - people paid to hear Neil, not you.

First to the comments above, I actually thought the crowd for the most part was pretty respectful. Other than the goofball who wanted to interview Neil and several "We love you Neils", I only heard one song called out, "Philadelphia", which he actually played. My own home crowd in Austin Texas, at the Bass Concert Hall in 2010 was, embarrassingly, much more obnoxious than this one. I did like how after the crowd shushed the guy down, Neil said "It's alright, he just forgot".
As to the show, wow, incredible. I loved seeing Neil so chatty. The only time I've seen him close to this chatty was the first Opera House show in Austin in 1984. I really enjoyed the stories about the guitars. I kind of thought the show meandered a little early, but around "Philadelphia" he really locked in and charged forward. The covers were simply dynamic and I've never seen him do "Old Man" with such force, almost venomously.
I have been following the set lists and when he pulled out "Cortez" to start the second set I was almost giggling like a child, and then "Pocohantas" blew me away. He crushed it on the next few songs especially the pump organ "Mr Soul". But the one that has stayed with me all through today is "If You Could Read My Mind" where he basically whispered some of the lyrics and sang with every ounce of pain that this very sad song could deliver. I was hoping and praying that he would continue with the last few shows and play "Thrasher" as an encore and he did not disappoint. A beautiful, soaring version of a song I thought I would never get to see him play.
All in all, a great Neil Young show. I would put it in my top four or five Neil shows, although I have only seen him 14 times, much less, I know, than many of you. To those who don't like the covers, too bad. In my opinion, they were very strong parts of the show, and for myself I enjoyed them greatly.

excellent review, rob. spot on, thanks. would've REALLY enjoyed Pocahontas, Cortez, Thrasher or If you could read my mind @ Carnegie, but just grateful & thankful for ANY Neil songs & interpretations.
These shows have all really been Treasures loaded with nuggets of gold.
Ignorance aside,(or even alongside), bliss.
