Maybe a rendition of "When You Dance" is on the horizon. That one takes me to the higher plain.
Half an hour shorter at Rod Laver but just as good if not better than the plenary gig, started with powderfinger, played love to burn and welfare mothers, no barstool blues, danger bird or opera star, encore was Mr soul and roll another number. He engaged the crowd more and the crowd seemed into it more. Totally Awesome again, anyone who did not enjoy this gig must be dead inside. You stood before me and you brought a smile to my eyes. Long live Neil Young and Crazy Horse.
Please bring this thing back home next fall Neil?! Damn. I mean our shows were great and all but its on a whole different level now. I guess the early concerts gave you guys a chance to warm up. But now that you're blistering hot, we'd like some to!! Can't wait for the movie. Don't be holding out on the damn movie okay? Thank you Neil for a lifetime of wild rides. We just love ya!!

Great to see the set changed up early and hear Love to Burn - definitely set a rocking tone.
A real guitargasm solo in Ramada Inn, Cortez seemed a little slower than Wednesday night.
Pleasantly surprised to hear Welfare Mothers get an airing - Fucking Up was plenty of fun and a fine encore of Mr Soul and Roll Another Number.
I'd be over the moon if Cowgirl in the Sand gets a run tomorrow.

I've been fortunate to see 3 very different set lists in my time, all exceptional shows and tonight was no exception. I missed the Plenery show, but my brother didn't - and tonight wasn't as good but loved it much the same. Highlight was Ramada Inn and Cortez!! What can I say- Neil & the Horse are on fire!!
Can't wait to see what ADOTG brings tomorrow night!!
I been wondering where Love to Burn went as he obviously loves Love and Only Love so much. Good to "see" it. I echo the come back home comment. Sure the show I saw was fun and all, but this kicks it up, its really twice the show I saw last summer. Neil has hundreds of films in his vault. He even films his warm up gigs sometimes like I saw at Warfield once. It would be great but I dont expect it. I heard yesterday this new Jimi is the 35th release after his death. It may be something like that with NY. I still have a potent Jones for Trunk Show and the CSNY2K show I saw filmed in Oakland.

Neil Young & Crazy Horse shuffled the deck for their second Melbourne concert Friday night at Rod Laver Arena.
Shows on the Alchemy Tour are being filmed for a live concert movie down the track. The first 10 songs of the first six Australian shows were locked into a template but tonight Young decided to shake it up a bit.
‘Welfare Mothers‘ from Rust Never Sleeps was played for the first time in 10 years at the show. ‘Love To Burn’ from ‘Ragged Glory’ was played the second time in 10 years. Both songs were played for the very first time ever in Australia.
Young looks like he is really having a lot of fun on this tour. There is something about the Neil Young, Frank Sampedro, Billy Talbot and Ralph Molina combination as Crazy Horse that gives Neil Young the licence to loosen. It is the ultimate garage band. It is boys, their guitar toys and pure adrenalin driven rock and roll.
A lot of the visuals for this tour were designed for the end result, the movie. The 20-minute ‘Walk Like A Giant’ epic explodes into an electronic torrential downpour through a psychedelic pill of effects. It was quite a stunning performance, like taking Hendrix back to Hank.
Wednesday’s show at The Plenary feature a triple play from ‘Zuma’. The Rod Laver Arena show included three in a row from ‘Rust Never Sleeps’.

I feel like Trunk Show will NEVER come out because Neil realized that he won't ever do a tour like that again...especially now that Ben Keith is gone...who knows?
maybe someday buried in the Archives...
I just can't imagine it being Reprise or Sony Classics that has held up the release of Trunk Show...but what do I know?
Amazing, so happy for the folks Down Under! One the great things about Neil & CH breaking out the past two shows is what it says about he Horse and Neil's confidence in their versatility. During that 10 year stretch and especially in '07 when Neil was playing with the Electric Band and the Horse was out to pasture I remember reading how Neil was loving the fact that he could play so many things from his canon and the implication was he couldn't do that with the Horse ... when Ben Keith died and he did the LeNoise thing (which was awesome by the way) ... people were saying he'd never reunite with the Horse fast forward to today and wow, who could have imagined it would be this good! The number of new songs lately takes things to a whole new level ... really hoping this continues. Seeing these set lists is tremendous ... Neil is so dynamic, just when you think its can't get better it does.
And isn't it great that the arena is named after a beloved tennis player and not some giant multinational corporation?
saw the shoe .. was awesome of course ... things went a little haywire tho .. they made a mess out of love to burn .. everyone made endless mistakes .. frank didn't play the riff and turned his guitar down , Neil messed up the chorus .. billy played the notes round the wrong way at one point and the horse forgot the bit where the come to a stop after the chorus... you'll hear it on the bootlegs ... it was kinda intense and uptight watching them struggle thru it ... it was awesome ... I thought it made the band a bit uptight .. there seemed to be slight friction for a while .. by the second half everyone was happy again and it took off into the stratosphere ... great to see a different show ... great set list .. tho the planery is the greatest gig ever
While I have to disagree with rodmac1969, this was still a stunning gig.
For me, nothing will touch the Plenary. It's a shrine in my memory.
I think Anonymous who 'went to the shoe' has some astute comments about the Rod Laver gig. Every show has it's own flavour, and this felt a little safer, and a little more managed than Wednesday. A larger venue, and some treating it like a football game, coming and going for beer...texting..*3@! you people. Show some respect!! So, a denser vibe to cut through for Neil and CH. Of course they did it. They broke through over and over again, and pierced my heart. 'Welfare Mothers' was dazzling. I missed 'Love and Only Love' because it seemed to infuse the Wed. audience with a gigantic wave of heart energy. This vibe was different, and still super great.
I wish I'd booked more gigs. I could see them every night until I die. Europe is looking good!! :-D

IMHO the plenary gig was superior but only just, this was a different type of show. The plenary was more about the music and the musicianship, last night was more about the show and rocking out and Neil delivered an incredible rocking show. He looked so happy during the second half of the show.
I'm almost more excited by the setlist of this gig than the Plenary one.
It's fantastic to see the main set mixed up and see new songs come into the set early.
The Horse have been on fire throughout US, Canada and Australia and they are only getting hotter.
I can't wait until they reach us in Europe.
I was at the show...second time I've seen Neil. The previous being Melbourne 2009 and while I enjoyed that show, this was in another league and then some. Probably helped that this time I was waaay closer to the stage...about 4 rows back. It was AMAZING.....BUT as mentioned above the show got off to a strange start.
As I've been following the set lists I was expecting LAOL as the opener so when they started with Powderfinger I figured we were going to be in for a different night. I was actually annoyed not to hear LAOL but Powder was a nice rocking version to get us going...but then came a very messy LTB. It looked like they hadn't rehearsed it at all and Neil had put the guys and himself on the spot. Probably to the casual fans it was good but for me it was a disappointing and the band didn't look too happy. Then things returned to normal with the standard set. I can't help but wonder if LTB had gone really well if they wouldn't have kept going with something else new rather than returning to normality.
Anyway Ontario was cool and WLAG was unbelievable. You can't imagine, until you've experienced it in person at least, just how the music and noise physically shakes you. The acoustic set was ok. I quite like Singer Without A Song. Then came the mighty Ramada Inn...IMO the best song Neil has written in many, many years...the perfect combination of words and music and Neil sang the devastating final verse with so much ferocity. It is amazing how good his voice still is. He has lost almost nothing of it over the years.
After Ramada it was the time machine shtick which was very amusing. "Americana...where did that come from? (audience laughs).....actually I like Americana...even though I didn't write it".
Cinnamon Girl was superb. I have listened to that song so many times but to hear it in person with The Horse is a totally different experience. Same for HHMM later in the show. Then came Cortez and though it was very good, I felt like it was a momentum killer after such a rocking CG. Then Fuckin Up seemed to come to an abrupt end after the crowd didn't really get into the audience participation segment. Neil and Poncho looked pretty disappointed.
At this point I figured we were in for the standard final run of songs but Neil had other ideas and clearly wanted to win the crowd back. What followed was possibly the most breathtaking run of songs I've seen at any concert ever. From Prisoners to HHMM, the pace was relentless, the playing fast and furious...no breaks between the songs. It was absolutely phenomenal.
Mr Soul was equally as rocking and energised to start the encore. Roll Another Number was performed well but I thought a bit of a flat way to complete what had been a standout ending to the show. Never mind...I still walked out with my mind blown.
18 songs over about 2hrs 40mins and they looked like they could have easily kept going.
Watching some of Rust Never Sleeps today, it's even more clear that Neil and the guys haven't lost a step at all to old age. In fact you could argue that they are actually performing better than ever.
Last night's gig at Rod Laver was amazing. The band tore the roof off the Arena.
The Drones are the best support band I've ever witnessed. Such a powerful band. The greatest Aussie band going around.
30 minutes after the drones packed up and left the lights went down the roadies did their thing with the huge microphone and speaker stacks. Powderfinger was a surprising opener but was good to hear something different open the show. Such a killer song still. Love to Burn was awesome although the first chorus featured mistakes from all band members. Crazy Horse stuffed up their bit and Neil sang the chorus wrong but it didn't matter because it was loud and ferocious. I love the lyrics in that tune. Walk like a giant was insane. My gf who was seeing her first Neil show couldn't take it and had her hands over her ears. I had a smile from ear to ear. The acoustic section was a drag I got to say and went on a bit too long. Ramada Inn was a guitar-orgasm for 17 minutes. It was the highlight of the night. Already a classic- Neil and Poncho left nothing on the stage for this one. The run of Cortez the Killer, Prisoners of rock n roll, welfare mothers, sedan delivery and Hey Hey, My My (Into The Black) was just the best 40 minutes of music I have ever witnessed. Glad to say I knew all the words to Sedan Delivery and sang them loud as hell. Encores included a furious Mr Soul with an awesome charged up ending and Roll another number completed what was a memorable night! Worth every cent. Crazy Horse is the best Neil Young there is by a MILE!!!!
