It also displays his special ability to fold his limbs in extreme ways. I know I couldn't relax with my arm folded that far behind my head.

(he also had some weird way of sitting with his legs folded under him)

So now that you know the actual location (and by the way, there are several similar images here: http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/neil-young-posed-in-his-hotel-in-copenhagen-denmark-on-news-photo/96714210), you might want to change your headline, particularly since it would now dovetail with the item above. Just a thought.
Thats a set list I would to Europe for, again that is. I was there in 09 for the Ahoy show. Maybe he should be the Godfather of Slouch. To say thats a pose is a lil over stated, he looks to be napping.
This picture, by Dutch photographer Gijsbert Hanekroot, graced a big story about Neil's European Tour of 1976 in the Dutch rock music magazine "Oor" (meaning, well, yes: ear). It's the March 24, 1976 issue, actually.
Hanekroot is the guy who shot the picture of Neil that's on the Tonights the Night album cover.
Another picture of Hanekroots from 1976, apparently from the same hotel in Copenhagen, made it to the cover of the mag. It shows Neil and Billy Talbot, laughing and smoking cigars. According to the story inside (which has yet another fine Hanekroot picture of Neil singing in concert), Talbot had just gotten news that his girl friend gave birth to a son, hence the cigars.
The accompanying story is by Constant Meijers, the guy who also wrote the concert review of Neil's Tonight's the Night tour in London, 1973, that was later printed inside the album (if you can't read Dutch and have always wondered: it's a good piece of reportage about Meijers succesfully trying to get backstage at the Rainbow with the aid of several bottles of Jose Cuervo, but alas also a bit of a sentimental tear jerker, about 'Neil and me'. Meijers does n't seem to get much of the humour of Neil's weird 'Miami Beach' mc performance, but then again, he was not the only one..)
The story on Copenhagen (and Oslo) is straight and not terribly interesting, although it has some poignant remarks about Neil's ability to hear slightly different voltages in concert equipment. On the whole, Neil seems more distant than in the '73 article. But well, Jose Cuervo makes up for the difference, I guess.
Hanekroot and Meijers also covered the CSNY show in Oakland, 1974, by the way.
Hanekroot unfortunately gave up rock photography in the punk era, but has recently published a great collection of his work fom the seventies, including more shots of Neil in Amsterdam and Oakland, 1974, of CSN, the Stones and lots of others. Great book. You can visit his website at www.gijsberthanekroot.nl
PS: you can find Hanekroots book on www.abbazappa.com, and more great (many unpublished) pictures of the 1973 Rainbow concerts via the Getty link provided above.
Thanks PoC! Great info. Yes, the TTN insert is pretty cool.. and weird. good weird.
