Has Ray Price performed yet? And what did he sing? I'd love to hear a report from someone there.

I saw Ray a couple summers ago on a dream bill with Merle Haggard and Willie Nelson. Ray came on first and his voice is still something to behold. Of course he did For The Good Times, and of course it brought tears to your eyes.

Fast forward a couple years. Early in May, I saw Kris Kristofferson perform his songs and tell his stories, an experience that I'll never forget. As I was leaving, the person I was sitting next to motioned to me that I should follow along with her and her friend. We went to the side of the hall and through a door to the stage room, where there were another ten or so folks waiting.

After a couple minutes, Kris came out to say hi, and ended up hanging out for almost a half hour...it was great! I got to speak with him for a bit; at one point I told him that I'd heard Ray Price sing For The Good Times, now I'd heard him sing his song, and what a privilege that was.

"Let me tell you about Ray Price and For The Good Times. That song kept me out of poverty for a long time!" he said, and then gave out that wonderful laugh! We talked some more and I got an autograph and note of thanks...he was just as warm and friendly as you'd imagine. He told me how fortunate I was to have seen the triple bill with Ray, Merle and Willie...he's a fan too!

So thanks to Ray and Kris for one of the great American songs.

For the good times!!!

Also thanks again to Sharon and Karen for including me after the show...can't say how nice that was! And of course The Hanover Theater for staging another superb show...I've seen Neil Young and Kris Kristofferson so far and can't wait for the next one at your great place.

Good set by Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds, and the version of Death Letter that John Mellencamp is doing right now is very cool. Wonder if John has ever heard the White Stripes version? Neil s/b on w/in the next hour or so!

Nice to see you too, Neil! That was an especially beautiful version of Long May You Run...thank you.

I heard this done by The Young At Heart Chorus back in mid May. Neil should go a version with them...I'll pay a lot of $$ to see that. Maybe next year's Farm Aid?!

Peaceful Valley time....

Sonic Youth opened their set last night with Death Valley 69...definitely not a peaceful valley!! Sun setting over NYC skyline and two small planes doing water landings on the East River...what a country!

Who'll be the one in Neil's straw poll?

Driving home through Connecticut behind a car with plates reading "Wu-Wei". Then a few minutes later, a huge map goes flying out of the passenger's side of the Winnebago on my right. As I pass, can see them laughing and smiling. Life is made of such moments...or something like that.

Love and War...what a great, great song.

The crowd is really getting into it now. What could be better? Heart of Gold of course!

Thanks Neil! Enjoy the rest of the show.

We were walking late on Bedford Avenue last night and stopped for ice cream. There was an ice cream truck and the guy there told me "I'm starting my own country; do you wanna join"? "No", I told him smiling, "I'm keeping my faith in America...but thanks for asking".

Can't believe that Willie's opening his set with Whiskey River! I did not see that one coming...but seriously, the man looks great and sounds even better.

"Everybody's looking at the monitors"...what did Neil mean? Is there some deep hidden meaning to this? Or was everyone simply looking at the monitors? Oy vey!

These blues sound great.... Love those Stormy Monday chord changes. How great must this be for Willie?! Thrasher said that Lukas is really, really good...yup. Thank you Lukas!

Thanks Mr H. for all the reports!

Sounds like Neil's set was short and sweet. All acoustic, mostly classics with 2 newer tunes from Le Noise.

Nice shout out to KC on PVB.

My pleasure, T. Need to sign off soon, but just wanted to say that if there's any justice in the music world, Lukas Nelson and Derek Trucks will at some point play together--can you just imagine those two guitars together!! Then with Willie and Susan Tedeschi on vocals, what a show...maybe next year. Take care and keep on rockin'.

Just want to say thank you Mr Henry, I love reading your comments and stories...you make things come alive, and your `joie de vivre` shines through.

Keep on bloggin`...as someone once said.

@Jill - yes, Mr H's `joie de vivre` shines through!

@Liza - Thanks for link. We'll update and take another look. Neil was intense, especially on the standards like CAT, LMYR. But loved hearing the newer tunes.

neil's set was very moving, but my oh my has he aged in the last 5 years. he's looking downright elderly.

Doesn't Willie always open with 'Whiskey River'? He has every time I've seen him...

As far as Neil looking elderly...age is what it is and he's always stared reality straight in the face...

Yes, Willie always opens with Whiskey River, hence the "I didn't see that one coming...but seriously...." attempt at humor.

Neil looks like his dad now.
