Does anyone know what the story is with this new Neil Young/Dave Grohl single?
Keith shining real hard on this take. Spooner sounds great too. This one'll be a fine one, methinks.

Get Back to the Country is also up on YouTube.
Album (vinyl version) arrived yesterday in the mail. Just a great summertime, open the windows and turn up the music album. Plenty of barn in this one. Courtesy of the download card I'm listening to it now. The artwork etched on side 4 of the album is basically the circular International Harvesters logo from the album cover. Roll on...
Got my copy in todays mail. It is "A treasure".
Interesting that it was originally recorded digital rather than analogue. That's kind of too bad, but better than nothing.
Poignant today hearing and seeing Ben Keith on that steel. So haunting and drippy and beautiful.
Off topic, but I was thinking about the Springfield shows. As great as they are for the fans, I think in these case the shows are really for the band. This band was, for all of them, the one that got away. The beautiful young girl they idealize looking back. This is a rare chance to go back to the past and re-live it. And do it right. To show everyone how good they were.
Neil is clearly having a great time. He is at a stage in his life where sharing the stage is just fine. Back then he was chomping at the bit to do his own thing, frustrated by being in a band where someone else was singing HIS songs. Now he is just having a hell of a time being part of THIS band and showing off how good they really were/are.
Stills had been lapsing into self parody. Here he is, thinner, singing a lot better, playing with fire. And doing the thing he likes best - playing with Neil. Sharing the stage as equals. Plus it's HIS hit single. His material stands up Neil's in these early days. Neil's long career eats at Stephen as much as his own decying career does. Here's a reset back to the days when Stephen was the leader (but we all are). It's a chance to show who he really was, before the wheels came off. And Stills is giving these shows an effort that you don't see in CSN, where he is isn't truly welcome and the other guys don't like him. It's like going home.
And for Richie this a chance at center stage he truly deserves. He looks great. Sounds great. His voice is so key to band's sound. And there he is. In the middle with Stephen and Neil on either side. Playing legit venues. Country, rock, whatever. He's up for it. He's enjoying this shot and he TRULY deserves it after being ignored for too long.
This is for them. Bridge was great so they are doing these shows. These are great, so out in the fall! It is a sort of nostalgia thing, for them and the fans, but the way they are playing, it brings it all back to life. This was unfinished business, and so these guys are bringing a fire that goes way beyond the nostalgia circuit.
Great comment there Raincheck, I really enjoyed reading it. From what I`ve heard on Rust Radio and the youtube vids you`ve really hit the mark. They are relaxed with each other, having a ball, one entity. Neil ,as ever, is totally into the part, joking about being from the past, and Richie just looks so happy. Stephen looks and sounds in great form. And I think that`s why they`re adding RITFW on at the end - just because of the fun they had and are enjoying once more. And I guess as a tribute to Neil who no doubt got this all together.
We are so lucky to be witnessing this reunion , and if a new recording of some sort comes out of this it will be the icing on the cake.
Got my new Treasure CD, BD and T-shirt today. Blasted it's country honk in the car in the swelterting NY heat with the windows down. Came back home and figured out a rudimentary cover of this song on a broken down Martin backpacker to get that uke-banjo sound and feel and recorded the vibe as it all unfolded. I couldn't help myself.
Oh to live on Sugar Mountain...
Right on there, Sony I've been doing the same thing here in Virginia. The greatness of these recordings cannot be overstated - it is simply an incredible album. I've been picking along to the tunes and just smiling as I play at how GREAT these songs are and what an incredible live band these guys were. I was 11 years old in 1984...
Sometimes the obvious needs to be said - Neil is without a doubt the best songwrter of all time.
