Neil Young needs a Briggs as part of his process- someone who can support his creativity by being critical, by not being a yes man. Perhaps Lanois can only be that person this one time, but I think he has had a really positive influence.
Would be wild to see what he could do with the Horse, but I get the feeling that just might be too combustible.

A guy like Lanois can focus an artist and be a critic (in a good way), demanding better material, better performances, and thematic unity that make songs build on themselves. That push is something the greats don't get as much of after they establish themselves. It puts them back in the position of proving themselves to someone.
It should help Neil make a much stronger album. Even if Lanois does seem like a bit of a tool.
