Neil Young Trunk Show Movie at Lincoln Center, New York
A special screening of Neil Young Trunk Show at Lincoln Center, New York City, will be held Friday January 15, 2010. Details here. (Thanks BSM!)
From Guardian.co.uk interview with film director Jonathan Demme:
DEMME: "When I see him galumphing across the stage in the middle of No Hidden Path, so deep in a trance-state, making sounds that I've never heard and I find so thrilling …
it's like if Tchaikovsky had been a guitar player.
I just think in terms of the word master coming into my head. Look at this grizzled master just burning this stuff down."
From gordonandthewhale.com » Blog Archive » AFI Fest Review: NEIL YOUNG TRUNK SHOW:
Demme utilizes a variety of camera angles to go along with his disjointed “scene” order. Overall, the performances are filmed up close from either the view of a lucky audience member at the front of the stage or actually on stage with Young and his band. However, Demme also throws up ALL angles up at once giving you the different perspectives of someone watching from the back of the house to the side to the front. I found this to be one of the most interesting parts of the film because, as a frequent concert-goer, it was fascinating to see what the show felt like from the last row to the first.
I am not a huge Neil Young fan and admittedly, it did affect my overall enjoyment of the film. So if you’re not a huge fan, you may want to skip this one. If you love Neil, GET YOUR TICKET NOW. As a fan of all things electric and loud, I did love the guitar riffs he goes off on. It wasn’t until after the screening that I realized the solo for “No Hidden Path” was 20 minutes long. Even as a non-Neil fan, I was sucked in and honestly would have told you that solo was maybe 10 minutes. Having that immersive experience in a theater without being at the show itself really speaks to Young’s showmanship and raw talent.

Saw an unconfirmed report of a "March release" on another site.
Anyone in the know (you know who you are) know if that might mean a theatrical release, or a DVD release, or whether it's just bullshit?
When oh when will this be out on Blu-ray?

Some shops on the www are offering a Trunk Show Blu-Ray / DVD for a while with a release date of 04 March 2010.
And, hey Thrasher, I am not related to the company you directed the link to. Although I love what they are doing...

Since we're on the subject of Neil..
I'd like to pass on a site that most will find very cool.
It's a thumbnail photo site of
panoramic pictures that once you click on one you can use your mouse and see a 360 degree view of the photo.
What makes these photos special is that they are all close by Broken Arrow Ranch by just a few miles.
It's a great way to check out"Neil Country" virtually.
Put on some music ,"Dreamin'Man" goes nicely, and see why the "Bard of La Honda" put his roots down there.
Happy New Year!

One more thing I would like to pass
on concerning Neil and his roots.
There is a wonderful and I mean
WONDERFUL book out now called
"Canyon of Dreams-The magic and music of Laurel Canyon" by Harvey Kubernik.
It's a coffee table sized book chock full of incredible photos and informative stories of ALL the jazz heads, pop stars and even LOTS of Neil photos and stories that I've never seen or heard before.
You can get it at Amazon and if Thrasher puts a link to it, hey, nothin' wrong with a little help for this site!
This book even has Bill Mumy in it and he has some great stories to tell of CSNY. He was young Will Robinson in TVs' "Lost in Space".
Hey, isn't that a song too? Hmm...
This book is a must have. The best look back on an era that Neil still perpetuates in song today.
Oops again....
Missed a bit on the link:
