Beats Never Rust: Washington, DC - 12/20 @ DC9
Dear Thrasher,
I contacted you awhile back regarding the Neil Young Hip-Hop album, Beats Never Rust. I'm proud to say the reception has gone well and I haven't been sued yet! I went on air on WRYR's Local Lowdown in Annapolis, MD to promote the album. The radio host, Andy Och, liked the material so much he's inviting me out to the station's annual fund raiser for a late night DJ set! I'll be spinning Beats Never Rust then premiering the new album I'm working on, BEATles Radio. The concert is December 20th at DC9 in Washington, DC and will be streamed online at www.WRYR.org.
Music starts at 7pm and we're likely to start the Neil material around 1AM. Your last entry for my album increased my traffic so I am grateful of any coverage you can provide this time around. Attached is a flyer for the event.
Much appreciated,
Mike O'Brien
Thanks Mike. Sounds fun. Play that funky beat.

Brilliant!
I only wonder what took hip-hop artists so long.
RNS & TTN riffs are begging for a hip-hop tripped up treatment.
Cheers.

Come on old rusties! I bet Neil loves this, it is fantastic. I think it is a fascinating interpretation of Neils work. As we know from the interviews on the Archives what really annoys Neil are those in his audience who are stuck in their ways and expect Neil just to do what they want, the middle of the road singer/songwriter material of Harvest. Neil has always been a great deal more contemporary and relevant to the under 35's than the baby boomers are willing to accept. He is cross generational and has connected to every generation since the sixties. What does he say on 'Hold you in my arms'
'Well the older generation they got something to say,
But they better say it fast or get outta the way.'
Fantastic, well played!
Word up my Anonymous Homie @ 8:07am
fo shizzle my nizzle!
Yo! Peace out!
Yo. I really think Ol' Neil'd be a rapper before a hip hopper, although he was quite fond of that other hip "hopper"...Dennis! rol(rap out loud).
He's already got down and written a coupla rap song's:Here's one
"Now I's is da Man!
with my master plan
I don't give a f%^K!
If ya praise or pan!
It's MY muse
I've got nothin to lose!!
So come for the ride
in my Ambulance blues!
Ya can sit on ya arse
Or come for the Cruise
We'll hit the fork in the road
for the optional fan
I could sit on my laurels
Just be the Dreamin man!

I like it. Great tribute.
Where can I download the album? The Myspace link is dead.
Hello everyone: The set times are in. If you tune into www.WRYR.org December 20th, we go on at 1 AM (so technically, Monday). At midnight the band I manage, The New Retro, plays a set. The trumpet player, Dave Matthews, is used on Beats Never Rust during Cortez, Heart of Gold, and Hurricane.
Hey Joe: I just tested the link on myspace and it worked in both Firefox and Internet Explorer. You are not the first to have the problem though... I think when there's too much traffic it goes down. Try again and if there's any problems message me and I'll make sure you get it (You can also download track by track on myspace).
Annapolis guy: The station is actually WRYR out of the Chesapeake Bay, not to be confused with WRNR. It's a nonprofit station and the DC9 show is their annual fundraiser.
Jill: I highly recommend you give Beats Never Rust a chance. It was made to give hip-hop heads an idea of who Neil Young was. It's a project I put a lot of effort and my heart into for several months and speaking as a huge Neil freak, I would find it shocking for any Neil fan not to appreciate this. As far as your hip-hop stereotypes go... drop them. The album does not feature any rapping, explicit content, or "crunk" rap beats with a lot of bass. It's simply a hip-hop interpretations of one of the greatest men to ever bless the music scene.
To everyone who's shown love for the project: I appreciate it greatly and am glad you enjoy it.
Love and Only Love,
Mike
Hi Mike - only just came across your comment otherwise I would have replied sooner.
I will certainly take your advice and give Beats Never Rust a chance. There`s always room for other viewpoints and interpretations where great music is concerned, I agree.
Luv Jill (keep on bloggin`)
Hi again Mike - I`ve been listening to your Myspace stream and I get it now. You really have done a very imaginative and creative thing here and I appreciate the time and effort you must have put into this project. You`ve mixed and sampled Neil`s music and his own "raps" in a very sensitive and thoughtful way. It`s actually a brilliant piece of work!
Apologies for initially jumping to conclusions without listening properly.
Hope you read this Mike - good luck!
Jill (one converted baby boomer!)
