Bridge School Concert Lineup for 2009 Announced: No Doubt, Chris Martin, Jimmy Buffett
UPDATE 10/24/09: 2009 Bridge School Benefit Concert Reviews
Bridge Kids Announce Lineup
From Mercury News Blog by Jim Harrington:
Two of pop music’s brightest stars _ Gwen Stefani and Chris Martin _ will take the stage during the 2009 Bridge School Benefit concerts at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View. Stefani will perform with her platinum-selling band No Doubt, which recently came through the Bay Area on a highly successful reunion tour, while Martin will leave his mates in Coldplay behind to play rare solo sets.
The concerts are set for 5 p.m. Oct. 24 and 2 p.m. Oct. 25. Tickets are $39.50-$150 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Sunday through 877-598-6659 and www.livenation.com.
Other top names scheduled to perform at both concerts include pop-rocker Sheryl Crow, indie-folk act Fleet Foxes, Australian hard-rockers Wolfmother, alt-rock icon Gavin Rossdale (Stefani’s husband) and, of course, the event’s organizer, Neil Young. The Monsters of Folk, the indie-pop dream team of Conor Oberst, Yim Yames, M Ward and Mike Mogis, will also appear on both days.
Also, Jimmy Buffett is Saturday only and Adam Sandler is Sunday only.

wow - this lineup appears to be the Nadir of all Bridge School events.
Yuck
That lineup is shaky. Where's Pearl Jam? Probably warming up for their Philly shows. Speaking of lineups, THE FULL FARM AID LINEUP HAS YET TO BE RELEASED. What the hell? That's less than a month away!
I wonder if this will spell the end of bridge. It seems the decline has been coming and this line-up has no chance of selling out two days at Shoreline. Seriously "two of Pop's bightest stars" - Bruce, the Who, Metallica, Simon & Garfunkel, Bowie, Elvis Costello, McCartney, Pearl Jam, Beck, Smashing Pumpkins, Phish - think of the history - then compare it to Chris Martin & No Doubt. Looks like I won't have to worry about setting the Tivo to pick-up the world series games that weekend - which is too bad because I love the cause.
well then tirish-stay home-if you can't hang with whoever neil picks you don't deserve to be there-it is ALL about the kids
Maybe Neil can add a surprise or two.
He will need to in order to fill the house....
i luckily attended an all-time great Bridge Show, circa 1997. Metallica, Lou Reed, Blues Traveler, Pumpkins, Marilyn Manson, Alanis Morisette and others....it was insanely good.
I was sick a little when I read "Chris Martin"... That's possibly even worse than seeing Coldplay live. I'm sure he's got himself confused with Thom Yorke, thinking he can do solo shows.
Monsters of Folk and Fleet Foxes would be cool though. And Neil, of course :-)
This is a tough economy, perhaps a lot of the STARS didn't want to come out for this, given their financial situations.
Wonder how many tickets this will sell.....
I've been to 15 Bridge shows and am a supporter of the cause. I booked my flight a month ago but I'm going to change it for a different weekend. This is the worst Bridge line-up in a long, long time - maybe the worst ever. Other than Neil, there is only one other act on this bill I would pay money to see (Monsters of Folk).
I'll still donate to Bridge but I'm not going to attend these shows.
You can all thank Marsha Vlasic for booking these bands.
Is it true that Neil cancelled his upcoming Toronto Film Festival performance because he is joining the boycott protesting TIFF's Israeli Government propaganda campaign?
2002 with thom yorke...something special...been waiting a long time for the perfect line up to convince me that its time to fly across te country...guess ill have wait another year to return...i will donate again however...
farm aid on the other hand, great acts, will be there...
Neo Cynic - I doubt that Neil knows there is a boycott, he didn't know that the TIFF were expecting him to show up in the first place.
Great choices - Neil Young,Fleet Foxes,Wolfmother,Monsters of Folk,Chris Martin
OK choices - Sheryl Crow,No Doubt,Gavin Rossdale
Not for me - Jimmy Buffett,Adam Sandler
Different strokes for different folks.

Wow! What whiners....What's so bad about spending a day listening to all different types of music, meeting new friends and having a great set by Neil? Maybe you'll hear something new you'll enjoy. I can't wait regardless.
Good for you Maria in sd, is that South Dakota or San Diego?
It might do some of you some good to remove your lips from Neil's arse once in awhile and see the world from a different perspective. Afterall, this concert is a benefit for a kids' school.
Maria - you are right on....I really don't care who is there just love the day and I think folks are under estimating the draw of Buffett for his first ever Bridge School........I will love the day!! Thanks Neil for continuing to give us great music. Remember it is about the kids!!
you know Mother, I'd like to give a constructive on topic comment....but what's the use,Thrash will delete/veto/censor it anyway..good to see your still calling a spade a shovel!! (lol)
Dip from the lip
Ya see? Somebody mentions the word ARSE and look who shows up? Slow day, today, Doc? You're all like buzzards on roadkill, aren't you?
ive been at the bar all night, bitchin about every coldplay song that came on every five minutes.
but..
jimmy buffett??!! fleet foxes??!!! neil???!!!
oh my god i will fucking be there.
this lineup.. to me is just perfect
Mother, I luv it when ya talk dirty!
Luv dip
P.S."some get strong,
and some get strange
sooner or later
it all gets real
WALK On!!!"
We'll be there! Always a favorite concert for us & we do it for the kids & to support Neil & Pegi Young's many years of dedication & hard work. The music is great, but it's about the kids, for sure!
First timers in UK hope we can get tickets as we have planned whole trip around concert. How easy is it to buy tickets from outside USA?
A&R from Leeds UK
This line up sucks only if you are more concerned with big names than quality music.
Jimmy Buffett, No Doubt, Neil Young and Sheryl Crow... Throw in a caribean island and this would be the ultimate beach party!
I'd love to go regardless of the line up. It's a long way from England to California - one day though.
can't wait. my daughter went to Bridge School. it's an amazing week end. it's the music and so much more.
I guess people have the right to bitch. Color me "musically unfit" but other than Neil and Jimmy Buffet I haven't seen any of these people and certainly not in an Acoustic set. So how in the world can I judge negatively something that is bound to be unique. The format always adds an emotional element and for me this series has never failed to deliver. Besides, I love seeing the kids on stage. I'll be there!
The Bridge School Benefit is always a unique, enjoyable show. I go every year and have yet to be a fan of all the performers. That being said I've also never gone to a show where there wasn't something that surprised and pleased me to no end. This show is all about the Bridge School kids and I feel in my own way that I know them all. Long Live Neil,Peggy, and the Bridge School tradition! Sitting 10th row dead center for fifth time. This show is so special up close.
My first Bridge School benefit was the McCartney/Tony Bennett event, and while admittedly the lineups have never matched that quality since, I've been continually astounded at how great the music is at each benefit. Everyone brings their "A" game. You'll always get Neil and you'll always be surprised at some performances. Folks have been spoiled by some of the past lineups. Enjoy it for what it is. A great day of music in a mellow crowd
Sad to see the negative comments. Seems many are missing the point here. Hope the Young's don't have the time to read the comments. See you saturday.
I love the way everyone is slamming the lineup. I never heard Fleet Foxes, Wolfmother, or Monsters of Folk before and thoroughly enjoyed hearing them for the first time. I also think Jimmy Buffet was incredible, and even gave homage to Jerry with a cool version of Scarlet Begonias. Gwen sang a heart felt and emotional performance that my wife and I both thoroughly enjoyed.
I feel like the concert was a great bargain and nobody sucked in the lineup (unlike when I saw the Police in Denver with high expectations and thought they sucked in the worst possible way).
I remember when I went to my first Bridge School show (XV October 20 & October 21, 2001 Performers included: Crazy Horse, R.E.M., Pearl Jam, Tracy Chapman, Billy Idol, Dave Matthews, Ben Harper, and Jill Sobule). Billy Idol was way down on my list of acts I was looking forward to seeing and then he knocked it out of the park.
I guess my point is to not make assumptions based on the lineup.
WEll all you nay sayers...I attended this concert and it was awesome...and whoever said stay home if you don't like it is RIGHT!! It ain't about U, it's about the kids..its a benefit, remember?
