Concert Reviews of Neil Young in Kansas City, Missouri: 4/30/09
From Back to Rockville: Review: Neil Young:
"Overall, I agree with Tim's review of the show. The last two songs before the encore were particularly lackluster and somewhat anticlimatic but it was nice to see last night's show deviate from other shows on the tour both in song selection and format (the acoustic set was way longer than other shows).
What's interesting is that he is penalized for emphasizing new material. One of my first NY shows was the 'Rust Never Sleeps' tour in 1978. Half the show consisted of material from that album that would not even be released until the following summer. At the time, many people griped about that as well. Now in hindsight, that tour stands out as one of the highlights of his long and distinguished career."
Neil Young will be performing tonight at Sprint Center, Kansas City, Missouri.

The legendary Neil Young was as dynamic as ever. All he had to do was grin at the audience and received immediate response! The Neville Brothers were amazing and a great compliment to the show. Everest sounded a little distorted but a young band with opportunity. Thank you to all for a great performance!

Great show last night! Couldn't believe how close we got. Every other time I have seen Neil it's out of the question to get close to the stage. Shakey came out of the gate intense and in good spirits. Thanks Neil and thanks to the KC crowd that cheered on the nevilles and everest. It was nice to see a crowd respond positively to music that was new to them.
Neil was in good voice and in good spirits. The last time I saw Neil was in St. Louis at the acoustic solo tour in 1999. At both shows there has been something I can't quite put my finger on - the sound - the atmosphere. Neil is magic and being at one of his shows is surreal. Neil will always be my musical hero! The flannel shirt was a nice surprise! He looked, sounded and acted like Neil of 20 years ago. Great show!!!
AWESOME! My first NY concert and the MAN was not disappointing! Thanks, you've insipred me!
Wow, we got so close to Neil it was incredible. That in itself was worth seeing the show! But he did not disappoint. The point of touring is showcasing new material, so we can't fault him for that. I thoroughly enjoyed the show and was disappointed by the low key audience. Yes, it was a Thursday night but COME ON PEOPLE its Neil Young!!!
This was the fifth time I have seen Neil and for sure it was the last. Wish I could get my money back because I feel ripped off. He was hunched over with his back to the audience most of the time. I'm guessing he really wasn't singing. And who cares about a song about some old car that he spends megabucks on just so it can get 30mpg. Any dipstick with more money than brains can have a car built. Neil, your new songs completely lack any meaning or inspiration. It's time for you to hang it up cause you have completely lost your songwriting abilities.

5th time seeing Neil & disappointed he played with his back to audience???
Surprised that this guy went to 2nd show given he's been doing that since the beginning.
What a poser.
