Happy Valentine's Day for all of the Hearts of Gold
Art by Susan Farrington
Happy Valentine's Day for all of the Hearts of Gold. Love and only love.
I want to live,
I want to give
I've been a miner for a heart of gold.
It's these expressions I never give
That keep me searching for a heart of gold
And I'm getting old.
Keeps me searching for a heart of gold
And I'm getting old.
I've been to Hollywood
I've been to Redwood
I crossed the ocean for a heart of gold
I've been in my mind, it's such a fine line
That keeps me searching for a heart of gold
And I'm getting old.
Keeps me searching for a heart of gold
And I'm getting old.
Keep me searching for a heart of gold
You keep me searching for a heart of gold
And I'm getting old.
I've been a miner for a heart of gold.

I´ve heard this song a million times...and it´s still great. My favorite version is when he performed it on piano in combination with "...Maid" on the 1971 solo tour. Goosebumps.

I've been writing some poetry/songs lately and since it's Valentines Day, I've decided to share one with you all. No title really, maybe "Hey,Baby", but I don't know....
Hey baby drivin' in my car
I saw a star
Fall to the sea
It reminded me
Of you and me
That night!
Hey baby not too long ago
I got a call
I put on hold
I should have known
Now I'm alone
And cold!
So Hey baby climb in my car
I got the heater on
We'll drive real far
Down to the sea
Just you and me
Tonight!
Hey baby take me by the hand
And I'll be your man
Upon the sand
Just you and me
Down by the sea
Tonight!
Now, I play this just strumming between A and G in standard tuning.
What you don't hear reading this are my seagull and wave impersonations! And I think it could use a bridge somewhere. BUT, if NEIL should ever read this and get a hankerin' to try it out, well, be my guest! Maybe it'll turn into an "internet composition" shared by any of you other players out there too! Anyway, all it good fun!
Happy Valentines Day!
And thanks for this wonderful site!

Here's one I listened to last night:
Lovers of today unlike lovers of the past
They used to find a way to get a love affair to last
I saw him leaving that's is all I have to see
and seeing is believing then...
Love's a mystery
It's a mystery
It'll rise without a warning
leaving evidence and clues
It can headlines in the morning
Then is history
Love's a mystery
But I'll do it again
I'll do it again
Lovers of today are becoming too diversed
Get the feeling you are onstage, badly unrehearsed
Have the molds done soo perfectly
I guess all it proofs
Love's a mystery
Love's a mystery
It'll rise without a warning
Making evidence or clues
Making headlines in the morning
Then is history
But I'll do it again
I'll do it again
The multiple offender
should learn from his mistakes
I am ready to surrender
That is what it takes
I waited a time
Still in custody
If love needs a crime
Love's a mystery
But I'll do it again
I'll do it again
It will rise without a warning
Leaving evidence and clues
Headlines in the morning
Then is history
Love's a mystery
Love's a mystery
Valentine’s Day
We rushed to see Mary,
to give her a Valentine.
There was quite a bit of pushing
so she made us form a line.
Fred didn’t hear Mary,
when she said, ‘Fred you’re sweet.’
Her mouth was stuffed with chocolate
that she’d begun to eat.
Then Bill gave Mary flowers,
but unfortunately they’d died.
Mary looked rather uncomfortable
when Bill suddenly cried.
Mary then accepted Tim’s gift
and said he was very kind.
The gift was wrapped in newspaper,
but she claimed she didn’t mind.
After that she opened my present
and her eyes went wide with fear.
She screamed out, ‘It’s a spider!’
and I replied, ‘I love this time of year.’
