Randomly Blogged: Neil's iPod Playlist, EKTIN Cover Wars, The Archives Breakdown
If Neil Young had an iPod what would be on his playlist?
Hidden Track » Cover Wars: Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere
Hollywood Report - WSJ.com on The archives:
"Larry Johnson, the project's producer, says the first installment is to include about 128 songs, 18 of them never released before. There are to be 200 photographs, 160 lyrics manuscripts and more."

only 18 unreleased songs?
out of 128?
hm...i suppose neil released everything he recorded that early in his career...
i hope the video that comes with the archives will be better than the track list
Vol. 2 is bound to please, though
almost all of neil's output from the mid seventies were shelved and never released
neil also played some of his best guitar during those years.
bring on the archives!
i can't wait.

Geez, yeah 18 unreleased songs seems very skimpy. I worry that it might detract people from buying it that are on the fence. But I guess it really depends on how much it ends up being. The video will probably be good though, as well as all the other "materials".
Apparently someone on the rust list contacted him, and he said that while there are many unreleased *versions* of songs on the box, there are about 18 songs that have never been heard in any form whatsoever.
"Cheerleading aside, Mr. Young is in discussions with his label, Reprise Records, to release two later versions of the set, one on DVD and another on CD. Mr. Roberts, his manager, says users will inevitably make their own lower-resolution copies for use in cars or iPods. "It'll be copied down to [CD] anyhow, and it'll be even worse quality" than commercially released CDs"
Looks like it'll be coming out on CD & DVD after all then.

i forgot to mention in my comment above, but did anyone else notice that the article concerning the Archives states that it'll be five cd's?
the preview of the Archives on Youtube clearly shows 10 discs being included in the Archives
or 8, without the Fillmore or Massey Hall discs
with such innacuracies, one tends to wonder the legitimacy of the whole "only 18 unreleased tracks out of 128" or the fact that it will also be available on cd and dvd at a later date
only time will tell,i suppose!!

I'm not believing a word of that article until I hear it from Neil himself.
The last bit described in the WSJ article is the scene from the Human Highway movie (currently OOP on VHS only). They make it sound like an unreleased "gem-wart"; when it really isn't.
