Comment of the Moment: The Archives: Live at the Fillmore East
Regarding The Archives: Live at the Fillmore East, Evan D said...
"I am pleased to see that several of you writing on this site are not as demanding of Neil as elsewhere on the 'net. No one should feel entitled to what people keep referring to as 'the archives'. They are 'his archives' until he releases them. It reminds me of when I saw Greendale for the first time. When I got up to find another spot towards the end of the classic CH set a fella had the nerve to say, 'don't worry, he OWES us about two hours'. As if Neil hadn't just put on an incredible show of all new music complete with stage act! A lot of so-called fans don't get it."

Last we checked, Fillmore East has slipped out of the Top 10 on Amazon Best Sellers Listing.

Neil may not "owe" us anything, but now that he's wetted our appetite, let's hope we get some more tasty nuggets in the not too distant future.
i love this cd/dvd package, its IMMENSE. a shame about no cinammon girl, but still incredible. as for the missing acoustic set, i heard one suggestion that rather than the Disc 2 label on the cd meaning that a future release would be from an earlier show, perhaps it might actually be the acoustic portion of Fillmore? worth a thought.
also something interesting i noted was that on the nitzsche biography on the dvd, it mentions that film footage of him scoring his songs for Harvest will feature on 'Neil Young Archives Vol. 1'. EXCITING!
for my money, this version of Cowgirl in the Sand was worth the price of the whole cd and justifies the entire vol. 1
I personally was hoping for something bigger from Neil. This is a great start for the archive series, but what is the deal with "...Downtown"? This appears to be the exact same one that is on "Tonight's The Night". C'mon Neil...stick a crowbar in the vault doors and let the music flow, man. The sheer quantity of material that has been bootlegged for years leads me to believe that you can take your fans to a higher place. Oh well, it's a start.
Neil is Neil! You take the good, the bad and the ugly. Too often I have found myself thinking..."I don't think I like this song", only to find later that I "grow" and I really like it. We have to grow and allow Neil the room to take us on the trip. Its all basic. KORITFW
