A Question on Neil Young Archives & Hi-Res Downloads @ The Greedy Hand
The Greedy Hand | Neil Young Store | WBR
Dear Thrasher,
Hope you don’t mind me emailing you off-site like this, but I have a quick question that I hope you may be able to help me with.
I’m sure that Neil announced some time back that any physical product (vinyl or CD) purchased from the Greedy Hand Store would come with a free hi-res download, but I’ve just received Official Release Series #4 from the UK Greedy Hand Store and they tell me there’s no download.
However, when I looked at the US Greedy Hand Store they do still include the hi-res download for this release, but when I compared the listing with the UK store I noticed that, unlike the US listing, there’s no mention of any download. It looks like the same is true of the bootleg series too.
I’ve definitely had codes for hi-res downloads with other orders from the UK store in the past (e.g. 50th anniversary ATGR), but it looks like they may have quietly changed the policy in the UK store to omit the downloads that are still available from the US store.
So my question has two parts: first, am I right in remembering that announcement about hi-res downloads with all Greedy Hand purchases? And second, have you heard from the online community of Neil fans whether anyone else has come across this issue?
All the best,
A NY Fan
So before attempting to respond, we'll just throw this out to the greater Neil/Rust/TW communities for investigation.
Thoughts folks? Thanks!

I'm not sure this helps, but I thought I'd give my $0.02 just in case.
From my activity related to my job, the GDPR and other Brit/EU laws really had US companies scrambling for compliance, or just leaving markets completely. On the EU side, part of the regulation was that data HAD to be stored on servers located in the country of the users (or possibly the continent, I'm foggy on some details). It would not surprise me to hear that Greedy Hand would have to set up on UK servers to do the downloads, but that wasn't true initially or they got surprised after setting it up that they had to change things.
Like I said, I'm not sure that is the reason but it would not be shocking if the reason was something new tech laws related.
Hi @soids. I am not sure that that would be issue.
The Greedy Hand servers will already have EU citizen data just by having an order being place by an EU citizen. Adding a download would make no difference.
Data can be stored outside the EU but there are certain conditions that have to be me.
Cheers
I have been in touch with NYA directly and they say there has been no change as far as they know to free download policy in the UK but they will check. They assume a temporary problem and recommend contacting the GH UK customer support for help.
I also tried contacting UK Store Support, who at first said there were no downloads included. But when I then raised the same question directly with NYA they replied to confirm the downloads should have been included and that they'd contacted the UK store and asked them to supply the redemption codes. Within ten minutes the codes had arrived from UK Store Support. Problem solved!
Yup! "What did customer service say" should have been my first comment. The support over email, at least from NYA, has been good.
