Neil Young's 76th Birthday Today, November 12 - Happy Birthday Neil!!!
First off, Neil Young is 76 years young today, November 12. So Happy Birthday Neil!!!As noted last year on Neil Young's 75th birthday, his outstanding moral character
can be demonstrated with his efforts for The Bridge School (USA) and Farm Aid (USA), as
just two examples.

We know that Neil Young is a humanitarian rebel with causes.
Neil Young
MusiCares Person Of The Year - 2010
In 2011, Neil Young was honored with the Allan Waters Humanitarian Award at Canada's Juno Awards.
The award honors a Canadian artist whose humanitarian contributions
have positively enhanced the social fabric of Canada and recognizes
Young's compassionate legacy behind events such as Farm Aid, Live 8,
and Bridge School Concerts.
As we have noted previously,
rarely -- if ever -- has a single artist supported so many causes, for
such a sustained period, raising considerable funds and awareness while
reaching out to millions and millions around the world. When reviewing a
listing of benefit concerts
that Neil Young has played over the years, one is struck by the sheer
diversity of causes he has supported over his 45+ year career.
One could contend that no other artist has made such an impact on causes
involving social justice -- or a better moral character. As we
documented in 2010, The Charitable Mr. Neil Young Keeps On Giving & Giving & Giving.
Neil Young
MusiCares 2010 Person of the Year
In 2010, Neil Young was honored as the 2010 MusiCares Person of the Year in Los Angeles, two days before the 52nd Annual GRAMMY Awards. An impressive roster of musicians lined up to honor Young which included Booker T. Jones, Jack Black, Jackson Browne, T Bone Burnett, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Sheryl Crow, Everest, Patty Griffin, Josh Groban, Ben Harper, Emmylou Harris, Elton John, Norah Jones, Lady Antebellum, k.d. lang, Dave Matthews, John Mellencamp, Ozomatli, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Leon Russell, James Taylor, Wilco, and Lucinda Williams.
Here is just a partial list of benefit concerts that Neil Young has played over the years that we posted on the Rust list back in 1994. And the diversity of causes is particularly striking. Of course, the two primary beneficiaries of Neil's generosity have been the Bridge School Benefit Concerts and Farm AID. The Bridge School concerts began in 1987 and are to benefit the school for children with severe speech and physical impairments. The Farm Aid concerts began in 1985 and benefit the small American family farm. Farm Aid is the longest running event of its type in music history.
Neil has performed annually at both the Bridge and Farm AID shows and has raised considerable sums for these causes. The performances at these two annual benefits are well documented.

Happy Birthday Young Man!
Happy Birthday Neil Young...😍😍
Happy Birthday. Keep on keeping on! Knowing there is a Neil song to fit whatever mood I am in or to help me to a better mood, well, that's one of the beauties of Neil Young.
There is nobody left from the '60s who is as relevant today as he was then. When the dream came I held my breath with my eyes closed.
I remember the great interview, Last American Hero, I was in college. The interview ends with something like this from Neil, "I might become an old-timer, I don't know, after all its just me and Frank Sinatra left on Reprise Records." He was 32 or 33!!! Comes a Time had been released and Rust was on the way. People always say "forever young" and neil has the spirit of youth, etc.., but he has also always been old with a resilience that only a mature person has acquired through great struggle. Almost as if he had lived before what he went through in the present. He has a wisdom about him that is uncanny.
@ Abner - yes, recall the quote on Frank & Neil on Reprise Records.
As Neil says, Old Blue Eyes and Old Red Eyes!
Signed copies of the poster-size Neil Young portrait (without the Canadian flag) now are on auction:

It's another iconic Neil Young picture - and no, I am not paid by the photographer Gijsbert Hanekroot whom I mentioned the other day - I just happen to like his photos.
Happy birthday Uncle Neil, we are editing you to play again at the beautiful Caracalla Bath, in Rome Italy.
Thanks for Everything!
Love
Sorry ti Neil and you all, it's waiting, not *editing

Hi everyone. Thanks for all your kind wishes on my 76th birthday! I am very grateful to hear from you all. I am a lucky man to have friends such as yourselves!
To my lovely and wonderful human being wife Daryl, I say I love you and thanks for being there! We are having a great life together! To my children Zeke, Ben and Amber, you are all the light of my life! What a beautiful and caring family to be part of. Ben Young, you are the man. Zeke, my old friend and traveller, you are a great son. Amber Jean, you have given me such wonderful grandchildren Ronan and Allyah and I couldn’t be happier for you and Rajib. You are such a beautiful family. I love you all.
I find myself in the fortunate position of being surrounded by family and music today. I spent the day yesterday walking in the fields and listening to music I am preparing for release. It is some very exciting stuff, listening to to Billy, Ralph, Poncho and Nils, as well as music through my life that I will share soon in the third volume of my archive, my life’s work.
I want to thank my old friends at Reprise and Lookout Management and NYA. You have been with me all the way. I could not have been better supported through the years. More to come!
Someday we will all be on the road together. Who knows where, or when. These times are so trying for us all. I hope we begin to understand our differences in approaching this pandemic as it rages on, jumping around the globe.
Lots of love
be well
Neil

Happy birthday to a friend I’ve never met, but I feel like we’ve shared so much together. You are a treasure to us all and I wish you all that you dream, and more.
Peace 🙏
Welcome back Thrasher & Thrashette. You have been missed. Hope all is well with you and the house (and the tree).
BHack to celebrate Neil's birthday. What a great message from him.
Happy birthday Neil with lots of love, Hunter
Happy Birthday Neil! My best wishes for health and happiness in the coming year. You have given me countless hours of pleasure with the great music that you have shared with us all.
Our kind of love never seems to get old, it's better than silver and gold.
I am listening to the wonderful new Carnegie Hall “Bootleg” which is fantastic! You have made the passionate soundtrack to my life Stronger and Deeper! Your huge wonderful (growing) catalogue of brilliantly inspired sonic Art, of the Highest Realm, as varied as a kaleidoscope in the summer light! Thank you so much Neil Young and all the Misicians and those who helped!
Neil, you are one of the 2 Greats in Poetry in Music for 5+ Decades. In my humble opinion, you became the more interesting one by baring your soul, and being a Triple Threat: great songwriter, great singer, Guitarist acoustic & Electric, Killer lead guitar, with leads on Old Black packed with Heavy Grunge, sufficient to crack open the Heavens and Reign down, in molten Fury, sounding like a jet engine in a hurricane!
18 shows later, from ‘88- 2018, in Boise w/ PotR. What a show. What a soundcheck! Peace Trail blew it all up with the Harp thru the guitar pedal! It was unbelievably strong.
And, it was socially enlightened! You stood up for the Standing Rock Sioux Water Protectors at DAPL! Your new stuff and the whole show was so powerful, as I would expect from Eldorado era perhaps! I look forward to Toast and all the rest! I love NYA and 8 the physical copies! Glad you are doing Blu rays again for NYA 3 & 4. I would buy NYA2 also on Blu ray (given the chance!).
Keep on Rockin’ in the so-called Free World, looking forward to Barn! The first 2 songs are great!
Be well, Neil & DH. We love you guys and we want to continue the journey with you in person when the shows resume. It’s a rough time. The live performances during Covid helped raise our spirits! Your fan always, Alan in Seattle
I am a techno-loser when it comes to music, as can be shown by the fact that I am often on youtube. But damn, did I find a performance, Neil Young with Booker T and Poncho, at some European venue (where it was cold). Going Home and All Along the Watchtower are rock and roll hand grenades in this performance. Just incredible.
Nice! “Born to Ride, ride my Dream Machine” is a killer song from that same tour. And Dock of the Bay!

I got to see the Neil Young / Booker T tour outdoors with Blind Melon & Pearl Jam opening in September 93’, and not only was it a brilliant concert, but a real genuine privilege to hear all of these folks play live. Blind Melon were amazing (what a tragedy) , and Pearl Jam ( when they were babies) were insanely good, and Booker T. & the MG’s backing Neil was transcendent. Literally!!!!
Peace 🙏
When in 1993 a Bob Dylan tour and Neil Young's shows with Booker T. & MGs crossed their paths in Europe a lot of fans were hoping / expecting for a surprise guest. And maybe the show in Bad Mergentheim on July 18 could have been the opportunity because Dylan's caravan must have passed through nearby Frankfurt the other day, coming in from Bern, Switzerland. Also that day I had learnt that I was to be the father of a child. Neil Young made some cryptic allusion on stage before breaking out "All Along The Watchtower", but then it was more like Jimi Hendrix waving from one of the windows opening to the castle yard where the concert was held. I also very much loved Neil's version of Sitting on the Dock of the Bay that became the standard encore on this tour, being a nod to the Stax veterans sharing the stage. In 2012 I saw Bob Dylanat the very same spot and I took my then 18 year old son to the show. One has obligations for proper upbringing...
Oh, and I forgot to mention that in 2012 Bob Dylan played "All Along the Watchtower" in Bad Mergentheim, too. Maybe he was there, behind the stage almost 20 years before.
Good on ya!
Hell yes! Booker T & the MG! Southern Man sent a chill down my spine. I will never forget it.
what a great group of people here! I am consistently amazed at the thoroughly engaging knowledge base and insightful commentary. It is indeed a pleasure to be a part of this group!
