"Rockin in the Free World" - Neil Young + Promise of The Real - BottleRock, Napa Valley Expo, May 25
BottleRock Festival Pulls The Plug On Neil Young, He Keeps Playing Anyway - The icon’s fans helped finish “Rockin’ In The Free World” after power was cut at Napa Valley Expo, May 25
No one can stop Neil Young.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer was cut off at the BottleRock Napa Valley festival on Saturday night for violating the outdoor event’s 10 p.m. curfew.
But that didn’t stop 73-year-old Young and his accompanying band, Promise of the Real, from finishing their final song, “Rockin’ in the Free World.”
As video from the event shows, they continued to play through their stage amps ― and the crowd helped make up for the lack of volume by singing along.
Someone can be seen running out onto the stage around the 7:45-mark in the clip, possibly to warn Young of what was about to happen. About 20 seconds later, the main audio was cut.
Neil Young + Promise of The Real will be in concert at BottleRock, Napa Valley Expo, Napa Valley, CA on May 25.
Festival runs May 24th - 26th.

Neil Young gets cut off during headlining set at BottleRock 2019

Great Thrasher tidbit in the letters section today! The story of its writing.
yeah, they got the plug pulled on them, but neil and the boys were 15 minutes late taking the stage, too.
no ‘crime in the city’. Unless your crime is breaking curfew in the city of Napa.
poor neil , they pulled the plug on him at 10 pm , like they said in his contract , maybe he doesn't have a watch ? I was playing at the Princeton inn once , near half moon bay , cal , and my brothers girlfriend pulled the cord out of my synthesizer , neil heard us play and soon booked a week there , the echos was the name he used for crazy horse , we were the 1st band to play there and neil followed our lead .
Great lead guitar playing from Neil on Like a Hurricane:

For years now this song has tended to fall a bit flat, to never really find top gear like it routinely did up until the beginning of the 21st century. But it has really soared back to life in recent times, both with the Horse (in 3 line-ups) and Promise Of The Real.
Promise Of The Real are sounding good on this tour. Micah (who seems to be in some danger of mutating into a marijuana plant) moves to keyboards/synth for this tune, which adds another dimension to the sound whilst opening the sound up enough for Neil's guitar to really fly. I loved it.
I know the synth is traditionally reserved for Hurricane or When Your Lonely Heart Breaks, but I think Promise Of The Real are a better, more nimble electric band with two guitars and keyboards, rather than saturating and entrenching the soundstage with three guitars.
Greetings to all at Thrasher' s!

@ Syscrusher - thanks, but we're a bit out of pocket at the moment. Would you mind C&P here?
@ Scotsman- great to see you again. It's been awhile. You are missed and appreciated @ TW.

Yes of course.
"Yes. I wrote ‘Thrasher’ in a car on my way to Albuquerque from Taos New Mexico. I was being driven by Carpio, a native American who I was introduced to by Dennis Hopper filming Human Highway. . . . ."
Two take aways from the above referenced article/link/review from the SF Chronicle:
1. It seems like "getting the plug pulled" by playing past curfew has become a "thing" amongst headliners? Protesting early curfew times to appease the few? Foo Fighters did it. So did The Cure, as headliners in the past.....
2. NEIL'S TOUR BUS WAS IDLING BEHIND THE STAGE???
WTF? & FER HOW LONG?
I Know it's bio fuel but 'cmon. Practice What You Preach
OR DON'T PREACH.....
Thank you Thrasher. Have been quiet, but enjoyed keeping up with the blog as usual. Will write again soon I'm sure.
Enjoy your break!
