Neil Young Says "Alchemy: Probably The Last Crazy Horse Live Album"
According to the latest edition of the NYA Times-Contrarian, Neil Young writes that "Alchemy is probably the last Crazy Horse live album."
Having had a ride on the rails across the continents from 2012 to 2014, we can definitely say that the Neil Young & Crazy Horse Alchemy Concert Tours will make for a compelling live album.
Thrasher Wheat covered the Fall 2012 N. America Tour, Spring 2013 Australia/New Zealand Tour, Summer 2013 Europe Tour and Europe Summer 2014 Concert Tour.
The third episode of A Rust Trilogy, which began with Rust Never Sleeps in 1978, and continued with Weld in 1990, now concludes with Alchemy in 2012. Things have changed, yet they stay the same. The Alchemy Tour of Neil Young & Crazy Horse -- like Rust and Weld -- brought back those old stage props like big roadcases, giant monitors and towering mic stands.
Alchemy was deja vu all over again.

We are very fortunate to have just returned from attending both the Cleveland, Ohio and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Neil Young & Crazy Horse Alchemy 2012 Tour shows.
And, boy, what thoughts and memories we have of Neil and The Horse in all of their splendid ragged glory.
From our vantage point of just off the rail, what we witnessed was nothing less than two nearly perfect nights of rock and roll power delivered with raw abandon yet punctuated with all the fun and delight one could ever want. And more.
To say that we've been lucky is a vast understatement. This was our third lifetime installment of "The Rust Trilogy". We saw the Rust Never Sleeps in 1978, the Weld tour in 1991, and now the Alchemy tour in 2012. While the boys in the band and some of the songs are still the same, life's journey has continued. As they say, "their spirit seems unstoppable." Just ask anyone who has seen the chemistry of the Alchemy tour.
Highlights? Too many.
The Crazy Horse huddle.
The dinosaur stomp of "Walk Like A Giant".
Flipping off Poncho during "Fuckin' Up".
The Psychedelic Mic
The flying keyboard descending for "Like A Hurricane". (Note new tye-die draping for the crying dove)
And good news! Concerts being filmed by Shakey Pictures.
What else?
And of course our fellow rusty Neil fans who get it and know The Way. We're honored to be part of the tribe. See you next time at the campfire.
Love and Only Love will endure.
peace,
thrasher

Hey Thrasher, this is excellent news.I attended the Cleveland & Kitchener shows in October & December in the fall of '12. Great shows.Los Lobos joined the Horse on Farmer John in Kitchener. Here is a setlist Neil's team has to pick from.Im not sure if we will get anything from the '14 Europe tour with Rick Rosa's on bass. The LAH video that was posted on the archives was incredible,if that's just the tease then us crazy horse fans are in for a special treat.I hope it's a blue ray video and a double album.

Why a final live album? Lots to pick from the '01 Europe tour.'03-'04 greendale tour. This years Fresno,Bakersfield horse shows with Nils Lofgren.Great performances!
Any news on Frank (Poncho) Sampedro guitarist who wasn't available for the may '18 shows.Still in Hawaii?
Keep on rockin!
I interpret this to mean, not really the last Crazy Horse Live album, as the archives still have so much to offer in terms of live releases, but rather no more Crazy Horse shows and thus, no more live albums recorded after this... :(
Hopefully I’m wrong.
@ShittyHorse: got the same feeling: no more live shows with CH.....too sad....
@ Soldier Steve- Quite a song listing there. Lots to choose from.
Right, presumably this would be the 2012 - 2014 era of full Horse (Ralph, Poncho & Billy).
And the video will be compelling as the LAH video indicates the force of nature that is The Horse.
@ ShittyHorse - right, our interpretation as well. There may be a live album of CH from 2018 w/ Nils, someday. But alas, no more True Horse.
Of course we have been arguing about True Horse since Danny left the building. But another argument for another day.
we are the lucky ones.
In terms of Crazy Horse live albums, it seems Year of the Horse is being overlooked (or maybe there's some special criteria I'm overlooking). It's not Live Rust, but I always liked it well enough, especially the acoustic version of "Mr. Soul."
I saw a few shows down under. Below link review really nail what the Wellington show was like ...."The Horse is a spiritual grounding for Neil Young...the band stands on stage, with the roadies. And the NZ anthem plays out. I like this because Neil and crew are showing that they’re here to serve us; soldiers ready for battle. They’re an army and they’re in it together and they’ll protect and serve the songs."
The last show I saw was Auckland and end with Opera Star... All I could think of was wouldn't be a amazing if Neil did a all in show a Sydney Opera house end with this song...hmm maybe dreams can come true?

I was at Light Up The Blues in April and couldn’t make it back to CA so soon for those CH shows- even though one was on my 24th Birthday.
I made up for it by catching 2 solo tour dates and outlaw fest, too.. but man no more CH? That’s tragic.

One of my favorite human highways
It could mean 'No more live CH albums' but not ' No more CH tours' they just won't be recorded for release. It does not mean ' No more CH albums'
There must be one more album in the NY and CH tank please.
We were at the first show at Red Rocks 2012 and it was stellar. We have both audio and video from that night and it was my wife’s first time seeing Crazy Horse. She was blown away. Looking forward to hearing what gets released officially.
I wonder the same. Have never heard an explanation as to why he wasn't included in the shows. Nils was amazing but I want to see Poncho's mischievous grin live one more time. Hopefully we get more Crazy Horse shows/tours
CH w/ Nils would be great. No more CH even w Nils would be upsetting ... the recent CYCH shows were epic I really hope he does some more soon.
