Is Neil Young's hi-res music service PONO still a viable technology?

Based on yesterday's developments, it would appear the answer is "Yes".

From EXCLUSIVE: Neil Young visits Meridian – Pono hi-res music link-up imminent? | whathifi.com by Andrew Everard:
Young, who had performed the previous night at the Birmingham LG Arena, arrived at Meridian's Cambridgeshire HQ with his entourage in two tour buses, and as well as the meeting with Stuart, had a variety of demonstrations of Meridian systems, including a session in the Meridian Digital Theatre, a visit to the company's new Experience Centre, and a ride in a Meridian-equipped Range Rover Vogue.

The Comment of the Moment is from Birmingham: Neil Young & Crazy Horse Concert Reviews - June 11, 2013 by Jevon who said...
Absolutely astounding!

If you're lucky enough to see work by Hockney or Tarantino, you wouldn't tell them how to paint or shoot movies, would you? Sometimes you just have to roll up, watch a master at work and thank your lucky stars you've been invited.

The gig was Neil in all his Ragged Glory. Grunge? Check. Rock n Roll? Check. Feedback? Check. Wilful determination to test his audience? Check. One of the greatest of modern day musicians on top form? Check, check and double check... with an egg on top.

Fuckin Up, Love to Burn, Cortez, Cinnamon Girl, Powderfinger, Heart of Gold, My My Hey Hey, Walk Like a Giant... and so much more.

Simply awesome. Late sixties and still so much to give, so much brio, so much spirit.

The fire was in his eyes at the end. You could tell it had been a great gig.

One word of warning - if you have only 'Harvest' in your cd collection and want to tick off a Neil Young gig then you may be in for an ear-bleeding surprise.
But just go... go and wonder at the genius.

Enjoy Glasgow. I'm envious.
Thanks Jevon ! Good to hear you enjoyed the concert. Thanks for sharing.

Newcastle: Neil Young & Crazy Horse Concert Reviews - June 10, 2013

UPDATES COMING IN MOMENTS --- REFRESH FREQUENTLY

Neil Young & Crazy Horse

From Neil Young and Crazy Horse – review | Music | The Guardian by Dave Simpson:
This baffling, bonkers, brilliant gig finds Young at his most mercurial, playing roles from electric stormbringer (Powderfinger, an unusually heavy Cinnamon Girl) to acoustic balladeer (sublime newies Hole in the Sky and piano-played Singer Without a Song). If there are themes they're environmentalism and the threats to idealism. Walk Like a Giant – illustrated with litter blowing across stage – is genuinely eerie.

Few other performers can summon Young's venom.

At times, he seems to be playing into his own personal prevailing wind as he lashes out guitar solos that are almost dreamlike. "Sing like you mean it?" he rounds on a heckler. "What the fuck would you sing for if you don't mean it?"

From Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Metro Arena, Newcastle, review - Telegraph By Neil McCormick:
Fans of the acoustic troubadour side of Young’s eclectic career had to make do with a short, sweet Comes A Time, in which he potently demonstrated how much music can be summoned up from an acoustic guitar and reverb-drenched harmonica. He strummed Bob Dylan’s Blowin’ in the Wind with complete conviction, evoking the hippie ideals at the heart of his ethos, and played a beaten up old piano for lovely new track, Singer Without A Song.

But for the rest of a two and a half hour set, what you got was four old men huddled together, grimacing, gurning and laughing as they pushed and pulled each other through an electric storm of groovy, epic, hypnotic rock.

The sheer howling pleasure of it was utterly infectious.

The quartet like to get onto a chord sequence and ride it out to the limit, with Billy Talbot’s bass snaking through the bottom, Ralph Molina’s drums swinging and thumping with a masterful blend of rock minimalism and jazzy expression and Frank ‘Poncho’ Sampedro attacking the centre with fuzzed up rhythm guitar, leaving their leader free to blow the cobwebs out with his extraordinarily expressive playing.
The tone of Young’s lead guitar was a wonder in itself, constantly shifting as he stomps pedals, going from high and wild to low and threatening, from leftfield atonal art attack to melodious shimmer.

The Magic Love of A Very Hot Night in Paris: A Neil Young Story

A Rustie Trifecta
Ralph Molina's drumstick & Neil Young's towel & guitar pic

Paris concert of Neil Young & Crazy Horse

For those who attended the Paris concert of Neil Young & Crazy Horse this past weekend, you know it was one their hottest gigs ever -- literally and figuratively.

Stage temperatures were approaching over 90 degrees Fahrenheit and Crazy Horse was on fire.

So hot that Neil played the end of the concert with an iced towel around his neck during an incendiary, deliriously furious "Rockin in the Free World" encore before tossing it into the audience in an attempt to cool things down.

To begin to describe the exhilaration in the moments after the lights came up as all the rusties raced to the center rail to share stories, we collided with all of our new and old rustie friends. For us -- with a Ralph Molina's drumstick in one hand and a guitar pic played by Neil Young on Ol Black in our pocket -- our vibrational energy was off the charts into stratospheric levels of euphoria.

But then something truly magically happened.

Up comes our newest Neil rusty friend Jacqueline clutching the cherished iced towel that Neil had tossed into the crowd. Still cool and wet, rusties gathered to touch, feel and cool down collectively. And then we all hugged.

Never before has our body and soul ever experienced so much vibrational love energy. It flowed. It exploded. it raced thru our veins with a shot to the heart.

It was as if the energy of Ralph's drumming, Billy's pounding bass, Poncho's chunky chords and Neil's love hit us all like a lightening bolt from the heaven's above. A magic jolt ... if you will.

It was truly a love and only love moment.

Tomorrow is a long long time if you're a memory
Trying to find peace of mind
Spirit come back to me,
Give me strength and set me free
Let me hear the magic in my heart.

Past, Present & Future
The Alchemy Boys in all of their ragged glory splendor

Can you feel the magic in our hearts?

Thoughts on Paris Concert of Neil Young & Crazy Horse - June 6, 2013

Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Paris, June 6, 2013

(Click photo to enlarge)

Some thoughts on the Paris concert of Neil Young & Crazy Horse on June 6 -- our 4th and final show for the Thrasher's Wheat Radio crew.

From our roadtrip partners Eric & Tony @ Wbkm Dot Org:
The Last Show for the Thrasher's Wheat Radio Hour Goes to Europe Tour 2013!

2nd day in Paris, France......close to 90 degrees.....love, love, love in the air today. The heat adds a fantastic dimension to the experience here. So exciting to see the fashions.....feel the desire.....and immerse myself in the very heart of this beautiful city. Again noticable everywhere....in the architecture, the clothing, even in the food- how Europeans bolster the arts....being polite is of up most importance always when visiting someone else's home....and maybe here moreso....as there seems to be a general lack of enthusiasm or patience for the typical American.......much quicker pace here than in any city we've visited yet....

Real happy to report that Neil Young and Crazy Horse brought the heat last night. Coming off -what felt to be an absolute nuthouse gig at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam- it was great to see the boys riding wild fire all over again here in France....Great crowd....arms waving and packed.
More on Wbkm Dot Org.

Also, see more reviews of Paris concert of Neil Young & Crazy Horse.
