Thanks for your spirited reaction to "A day at the Gallery." I must tell you that we had a good time doing that piece. It was born totally out of fear. We are so scared that Crazy Horse is not good enough to promote our new album conventionally on late night TV. Imagine the disaster that could have occurred there and the damage to our reputation that could have ensued.
What if we had begun one of our songs and gotten hung up on the intro and they had to cut away to a commercial before we got to the first verse?
Thankfully, you loyal fans have been able to understand and sympathize with us.

The dude is a rock and roller. I love his music. But really. Folks do get carried away. Sure it's art, but it is folk art (Neil has never developed technique).
And Neil is not responsible for all the weight of history that goes with these songs. He's just playing some old songs he grew up with with his favorite garage rock band.
Love it. Don't. Move on.
I love it. This sly message from Neil is itself a work of unbridled genius. High art. A self-referential, post-modern addendum to the Day at the Gallery piece, brilliantly drawing on, and encapsulating, the responses of the fans themselves, in an inventive, inverted, participatory promotional epilogue!!
Have Elliot buy up the commercials. Get the Sr. discount rates too.
I loved it. Neil is the best and is welcome to come hang out next trip to Ontario ;)
I'm having trouble determining how many tablespoons of sarcasm are included in Neil's message. Whatever the dose, long may he run.
And so the defining spiritual engine of Neil Young's output in the 21st century is revealed to be, not a race with rust, but the paralyzing fear that he and The Horse are not good enough for his online web forum critics!

Going just a bit off topic here, but the picture on Neil's site of Almac's Diner is from my home town of Fall River, Mass. Just noticed it for the first time this morning. My father used to take me there in the sixties for breakfast. Memories.

I don't mind Crazy Horse being (pardon the pun) loose, but *I* don't think they're too inept for LATE NIGHT WITH JIMMY FALLON...c'mon Neil, do it !!
not too psyched to hear that it's gonna be a relly short tour, but - hey - a little kudos from Neil is great. The fact that he's tuned in speaks it all.
Can someone explain in laymans terms what's Neil's agenda in this NY post? I'm seriously at a loss to understand his true intentions and message here?
It was removed from his site very shortly after it went up. I'd be surprised if Neil himself actually had anything to do with it, and in any event it obviously wasn't really intended for public consumption.
@anonymous: that's my feeling too. I find it very strange that Neil would react to a discussion here and it was'nt a very clear message too.
The very only time he did a thing like that, he used the words 'it has come to my attention'. I'm pretty sure Neil stays away from sites like these, it would make it harder to follow his own path.

I gotta believe the 'thank you' was directly from Neil, it's got his prose and humor all thru it. Maybe he took it down because he knew it had already been posted here.
The inference is he's gonna let someone else ghost-write for him? Doubtfull.

You give yourself too much credit. I believe what no one actually said is (paraphrasing) that you're an idiot. She is welcome to her opinion, but let's not let her comments be misconstrued.

Pinto, I was being sarcastic. I think you took my comment too literally.
I wasn't giving myself credit for anything, I was making a facetious joke (referencing recent hostile remarks made by a hilariously socially inept internet bully).
Liner notes for the Americana album/CD are credited to 'NY'. Seems that the prose handle he's been using, his 'pen name' if you will for literary inscription. So the message on his Neil Young Times appears genuine, as was the message.
