Neil Young’s Archive Mobile App Ready for Download (Apple Only)
Neil Young’s Archive site is now the biggest archival site dedicated to and operated by any major recording artist in history.
And the NYA footprint keeps expanding with a mobile app for Apple ready for download, with an Android version coming soon. The Android app has “encountered cobwebs in the tunnel. They have been partially cleared by volunteer Elves.”

Can anyone else confirm the "Hearse Theater" video is NOT playing on the ios app? I just get the spinning wheel and a vague video error message.....
ALSO: Everyone who does not have an Unlimited data plan should go into the settings menu and adjust the audio quality accordingly, If you ONLY use wifi OR have an unlimited data plan, no changes are necessary. I am not aware of any ios/iphone that has a DAC for hi res playback.....
Couldn't say on "Hearse Theater" playback. We're not Apple ppl.
Also, note from NYA TC:
"We will be giving you many hints on how to get full High Res from the archives app. NYA is streaming High Res where you are. Watch for articles at NYA."
Thrasher, Certain Android phones (higher end brands) are capable of Hi Res playback via on board DAC's. Once the Android App comes out, only those users will have true Hi Res.
In fact, Hi Res playback via web streaming is Not Really Hi Res, for most peeps. You would need a sound card w/a DAC to convert/playback in true Hi Res. They also make usb Dac's. Neither option is inexpensive, most peeps just have a plain old sound card.
As for the video playback, I noticed the video content on the timeline is not present within the album index cards, as it is on the website. So I'm guessing no video playback @ this time. A work in progress. Still, Way Cool!
:)
I was able to get the Hearse Theater video to play on my iPhone XS. I had to stop and restart the NYA app to get it work.
@ ForeverYounger - thanks for details on Hi Res & DAC's.
Once again, Neil gives us the opportunity to explore uncharted audio territory.
@ zuma11 - yep, can imagine that there will be glitches but it seems that NYA is committed to resolving.
So, what does Neil think about Apple as a world-citizen corporation? Anything about the Suicide Nets on the workers dorms?
The Hearse Theater video didn't work for me either. I have an iPhone 7, so I'm not sure if only newer models can access it.
For sound quality- you can access this in the settings menu within the app. Three choices are available for wifi/streaming and data usage - hi-res, CD, and 320
Thanks for the update!
@ Hawk
you may be on to something here w/ older model iphones.....I have a 6s. the wife has a 6s+ both are updated to the latest i.o.s (12.1.2) but being a couple yrs old, It is the processor chip that is slower. The odd thing is I have NO trouble w/ Youtube or Vimeo.
I also have NO issues w/ videos embedded on other artist's sites. Same for FB live.
It is only a prob w/ NYA "Hearse Theater".
A work in progress?
FYI: emailed cust support via app RE: Video Streaming this A.M. (E.S.T.)
Just got this LIGHTENING FAST Response:
Hello!
We have been testing the limits of our video hosting service (vimeo) since launching the app and it would appear out video streaming is not working at the moment. We are working as quickly as we can for a a resoltion.
Thanks so much for bring this to our attention!
-The Archives Team

Looks like the Archives team corrected video issues w/ "Hearse Theater" & ios app.
Just watched the Grey riders from A Treasure.
Best $19.99 I ever spent. On anything.
& knowing what's in the mail, icing on the cake.
What a dedicated & responsive tech support team Neil has assembled!
This is a neat lil' show & tell type App.
Can't wait to turn others on to it!
:)
Are there any news about Android app?
I can't get video either...it's 2020 man. I don't have pc as am on limited income. Bummer man...wish they would fix it. We've been corresponding. They said I should have full access, but their faq page says some things are only accessible on a p.c. I love the albums tho!!!!
