With Promise of the Real’s cover of American Girl on Sunday afternoon fading through their amps, Lukas Nelson struck a somber and serious tone speaking to the audience. While honoring Tom Petty with Tom’s inspiring and life affirming message Lukas put the horrific slaughter in Las Vegas last Sunday night, its effect in concert goers and event security and the tragedy’s relentless coverage in the mass media into perspective saying,
“Tom Petty. Thank you man, for your music. Don’t be afraid to be at a Music Festival. Come on, you don’t have to live like a fuckin’ Refuge, man! Go out there and love, man! I’d rather live a short life full of Love than a long one full of fear any day.”
