STATEMENT: Neil Young "To Play" at 2017 Thursday Thunder Legends Series at Atlanta Motor Speedway
Earlier this week, we posted that Neil Young To Perform at 2017 Thursday Thunder Legends Series at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Thanks to our buddy Scott Bernstein, editor of JamBase, he was able to reach out to Neil Young Neil's publicist at Warner Brothers who responded that this announcement was "Absolutely untrue!"
In turn, our buddy Hounds That Howell wrote to the management at Atlanta Motor Speedway asking them to clarify.
Here is the response from Dustin Bixby, Vice President of Marketing and Promotion at Atlanta Motor Speedway:
Hi Howell -
We are thrilled that you are looking forwarded to attending the season finale of Thursday Thunder presented by Papa John's Pizza scheduled with a special Saturday edition on August 5th.
There is a lot of "Fake News" flying around these days, but for only $5, we're sure our fans will be entertained with all of our zainy and wacky promotions and thrilling on-track racing action in our season finale of Thursday Thunder presented by Papa John's Pizza.
The music of Neil Young booming out of our 100,000 watt public address sound system that you will hear on Saturday night is one of the many promotions planned to entertain our fans for our season finale this Saturday, August 5th. If you have any requests, please let us know and we'll be sure to add them to our playlist through the night.
Thanks for your support of Thursday Thunder presented by Papa John's Pizza at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Thank you Scott, HtH, & Dustin!
Again, our sincerest apologies to our Thrasher's Wheat readers for this egregious error of interpreting that Neil Young to "play" meant pre-recordings and not a concert. If anyone made non-refundable reservations or incurred costs due this error, TW will *attempt* to reimburse your expenses. Please provide documentation of any claims to thrasher@thrasherswheat.org
We could wax episodic about fake news, using disCERNment, transparency and integrity... but we won't .. because we have all been here before ... over & over again, our friends ...
Labels: concert, neil young

Thanks for the Hat Tip, Thrasher, and all the good work you do! Just to clarify, the word about Neil not playing this event came from Neil's publicist at Warner Brothers.
Thanks Scott for clarification and keeping our facts straight!
Much appreciated.
We value the accuracy and transparency that Jambase provides to the music community.
Keep on rockin'!
News:
Hitchhiker is coming September 8th.
Available to pre-order on vinyl and CD on Amazon and Warners Neil Young store, and available on download.
Hitchhiker (Like An Inca) song available to download as pre-release single now.
Yay
Wow, this version of Hitchhiker is really good! It is available at least Apple Music.
Anyone know if Neil's recent vinyl releases come with a digital download? The last one I bought on vinyl was A Letter Home.
Hitchhiker features "post-production" by John Hanlon. I wonder does that relate to the line in this version of hitchhiker "smoking grass with my Chicago lass" ... a possible modern addition to reference noted Chicagoan Ms. Hannah. Or maybe that's what the lyrics were all along.
in life there is something called personal accountability. any idiot who booked travel because of your stupid blog post can go fly a kite.
but now that you mention it, i'm an idiot. I booked a charted flight to see neil at the Atlanta SPEEDWAY SPEEDWAY SPEEDWAY!!! I took my whole neighborhood. you owe me twelve million dollars.
Peter D: Carrie Snodgress was also from the Illinois/Chicago area.

Re: the Archives website, and accompanying "note from Neil".
Well this is pretty exciting(!), with a few (hopefully constructive) words of caution:
1) Hopefully it's not another "blu-ray is not going away...don't say I didn't warm you" note, similar to that about the Blu-ray Archives in 2009. Neil Young has a very comprehensive history of promising things, starting to deliver them, and then abandoning them a few months later. Over and over again. It's a rule, not an exception. Will this be an exception to the rule?
2) the focus on high-res audio (beyond CD quality) continues to be a major distraction from what really matters.
3) Websites need to be maintained. Constantly. Otherwise they fall apart. Is this something that is going to be maintained? Easy to say "yes", harder and more time-consuming to actually do it.
4) In the digital age, music continues to thrive in a physical "box set" style release, where possible. Obviously it is not always possible or practical. And if that physical release requires an internet connection then so be it, but it will still have that advantage over something purely digital. But we saw how quickly the "online" part of the blu-ray set fell apart. What action is being taken to stop this happening again?
With these things considered, I wish this project all the success in the world.
