Leon Russell: 1942 – 2016
Leon Russell has passed away at the age of 74.
2016 has been a very tough year for music. David Bowie. Prince. Leonard Cohen. Gone but not forgotten. Just to name only a few.
Here is a video of Neil Young performing with Leon Russell, Elton John & the Speaking Clock Revue on "Gone To Shiloh" at the 2010 Bridge School Benefit Concert.
Leon Russell and Elton John released an album in 2010 titled The Union. Neil Young makes a guest appearance on the song "Gone To Shiloh", along with Brian Wilson and Booker T. Jones with producer T-Bone Burnett.
From our friend Jeff Allen on Leon Russell:
I photographed him in 1970 when he headlined a concert in San Diego. Pink Floyd opened for him, followed by Hot Tuna. I am standing in my office this morning by a 24X20 autographed shot I took of him at that concert. His music was incredible. For those that haven't seen my concert photography, here is a link - http://cacheagency.com/scripts/IF/if.cgi?direct=Contributors/Jeff_Allen&img=150 Leon is at the bottom of page 4, followed by a few more on page 5.Thanks for sharing Jeff. Tough times here in 2016 with still another month to go.

....... what a line-up !
... and tickets were probably 5 or 6 bucks
The album UNION with EJ was very good with Neil on vocals on one song. A Song For You - love that
"...and tickets were probably 5 or 6 bucks" - No, but still a little pricey at $3.50...but if you were a student, it became substantially more affordable at $2.50 - Here is a link to a photo of the ticket:

It seems to be one after another this year. I was saddened to see this news.
I remember Leon Russell mainly from the Concert for Bangladesh, organized by George Harrison and Ravi Shankar as perhaps the first rock benefit concert of its kind. Russell sings a very spirited Jumpin' Jack Flash. It's on the album and in the movie.
