In 2014, Young had invited Nelson, who was playing with his famous father, Willie Nelson, to back him at a Keystone XL pipeline protest at the Bold Nebraska Harvest concert outside of rural Neligh, Nebraska. “We became the backing band for dad and Neil and then we just never quit after that,” Lukas explains, during a visit to the Acoustic Guitar office, his Martin 000-15M in tow.
“It was so much fun, it felt good and the vibe was there. So now we’re Neil’s band and he’s our celebrated captain."
“We’ve come full circle, because eight years later we’re playing with Neil,” Nelson observes.
“It’s kind of a dream come true.”

Watching Lukas and POTR rocking out is like the first wave I caught at Steamers Lane way back in 1967. Hold on! Hold on! Fuck yeah!

Hmmmmmm nice but pretty average - much like Pegi and her band where would they be without Neil? I hear Pegi & Susan are making a record.
Lukas and band are the Real Deal. That is a smoking' song. His vocals are very strong and the band really rocks that tune. I look forward to seeing them play with Captain Neil again sometime soon! Thanks for posting. -Alan in Seattle
Great energy and playing, especially towards the end--almost incendiary.
Lyrics and vocals seem a little forced, but musically it's very tight and loose at the same time.
Most "impartial" music fans would say this performance is better than anything Neil's done in a long time. It's certainly more conventional and technically sound, it just lacks the Neil spook--that unpredictable, quirky, strangely odd but mysteriously endearing mountain funk, that makes me want to listen again and again. This performance was very good, but I don't have much desire to watch it again.
Neil's upcoming shows with them should smoke..

This new CD, according to Lukas, is stuff from a couple years ago and they've already got some newer songs ready. Very exciting indeed!
And they're doing another record with Neil?
From what I can gather, Neil doesn't look in his rear view mirror very often.
Especially when it comes to his musical career.

You are talking about the man who has been working on his archives for over 28 years now? And the man who wrote both Goin' Back and Driftin' Back? It's very clear from reading Waging Heavy Peace that at heart Neil is a deeply nostalgic fellow.
Nothing wrong with that, of course; some of his best music no doubt came from the inspiration provided by good memories. But the idea that he is this artistic visionary constantly moving away from the past is incorrect.

We're getting very literal here. I'd say he looks to the past to help him move forward (or something like that).
He is nostalgic as most of us tend to be in our advancing years. He has always enjoyed and fed off of a reputation as a maverick, and we can always spin anything he does as being a new road travelled towards the unorthodox and original. Even when his music harkens back to specific memories and styles, his foot tends to be on the gas pedal.
His overall spirit is that of a seeker, not a settler...
