Great video, Thrasher, thanks for posting! What's your opinion of Wolf Moon? I'm assuming you've seen the music video.
Excellent love 'Winterlong'...not sure when a 70 year old says 'cool'....!
Wolf Moon....not sure..vocally he seems to be trying too hard and all the bonhomie on the video looks rather false...
But then that could be me.
I find wolf moon pleasant and somewhat vulnerable, but it's not very challenging. It almost feels like a bit of a retread. Honestly, I just want to hear Winterlong. That's my favorite song of his. My dad and I are going to see him in Cincinatti (my first concert!), and it would make my life to see him perform Winterlong.
Winterlong very moving ... hearing it here is almost like hearing it as a new song given what's Neil's been through, used to think about Danny (maybe because he was dedicating it to Danny during the '07 theatre tour?) now thinking about Pegi ... more and more clear to me how interwoven these songs are into the tapestry of our lives and how cool it is to travel this journey with Neil and fellow Rusties ... as time goes on its clearer that the artist and the hard core fans are somehow bound up together ... so grateful Neil's healthy and relevant and creating and also grateful for this video, just a cool little window into Neil's current scene w/ Promise, ect... Thanks Thrasher for posting!
He seems to chasing something and I'm not sure what it is....as we all agree it's great that he still has the energy, drive and ambition to be relevant. I wonder what CSN make of his latest songs? As I say I'm not convinced by some of the banter in the video.
Send Crosby a tweet. Have you ever seen his Twitter? Makes for some very entertaining reading.
"I wonder what CSN make of his latest songs?"
Crosby: I don't like 'em. He should be touring with us. Give the fans what they want.
Stills: They'd sound better with me!
Nash: There's a few alright ones... I just wish he would sit down and finish his songs before recording them... He'd really have something
Seems like he's "goin' back" 45+ years to when he poached the Rockets for his garage band. He needs the energy of these young guys, the same way he needed the youth of Pearl Jam 20 years ago, except this time there may not be a Crazy Horse to return to. And maybe these guys, if the thing lasts beyond The Monsanto Years, are allowing the thing he mentions at the end of the clip to bubble up. At least he's passing something on and that's good...he's trading solos with Micah Nelson after all!
I love this, really great film.
Just like in 86, almost 30 f..king years ago, they are practicing. This time they practice for Milwaukee not San Francisco. Good times to clean the whole kitchen while this plays. Yep,good times.
"Where did the magic go?
I searched high and low, I can't find it no more.."
Thanks for posting this video Thrasher. An interesting peek into the rehearsal process for the new album. I have to say it was a little strange at first hearing "F--king Up" without Crazy Horse, but do agree that Neil appears to be bolstered by the youth of his band mates. I did not sense that the rapport between them was forced, and expect that Neil has known the Nelson boys a long time. They all seem to be enjoying each other, and the process of making music together. Winterlong sounded good, but in some cases, Neil is stretching himself vocally. It would be nice to hear Lukas or Micah back him a bit vocally for a seamless sound. Just a subtle support for his vocal range. I loved the planning of the unexpected San Luis Obispo gig! Thanks again!
As a musician who knows how to play Winterlong, man, did I ever want to be in that room showing the guys the changes!!
Yes, Neil has to start tuning his guitar down a step or half a step to sing some of those old high songs.
This was fun to watch, thx!
So cool to get a glipse of this band coming together! Thanks for sharing. There's a real energy there, and that is going to be awesome to see live! Can't wait for the show in VT! When's the vinyl coming???
