As we have been sharing here @ TW for the past months, another song from the 3 set "RUST BUCKET" concert is being screened on Hearse Theater Screen #2 | NYA. Last year, Neil Young announced a major Archives discovery titled "RUST BUCKET".
This Friday's feature song is "HOMEGROWN". Neil writes on NYA:
‘HOMEGROWN’ is a fun song. Here it is with Crazy Horse. It came from the lost album Homegrown, just released, but this is the Horse version! It’s been played many times by the Horse, but this is one of the best ever! ‘Way Down in the Rust Bucket’ is a treasure trove of amazing moments for you. Enjoy this one right now. Turn it up and break it out.
‘Way Down in the Rust Bucket’ - coming this year from Reprise in Blu-ray and Vinyl, CD and Hi res!

The complete concert setlist is 20 songs with a running in total of 3 hours. (See Sugar Mtn for more details). The RUST BUCKET tapes have been called "the missing link between Ragged Glory and Weld".
“Got mashed potatoes. Ain’t got no T-Bone!”
This song speaks for itself. A Horse classic from ‘Way Down in the Rust Bucket,’ coming your way later this year in blu-ray and vinyl, cd and high res . . .

With only four songs left in this show, I must say that for me anyway, this performance has been a absolute joy. They all seem so relaxed and content playing this material. What a fortunate audience. Really looking forward to seeing this in its entirety on Blu Ray, and listening to the vinyl mastering. Definitely something wonderful to look forward to during these strange days. Neil and the Horse live, is just what the world needs right now. Loud, relaxed, and ragged rock and roll music for the ages, filled to the brim with all the uniquely intangible elements they are most famous for.

Nice comment Dan! Exactly right!Loud and relaxed. Loud and free.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to the expected BD. Looking at the lineup of possible releases for this autumn, it will be interesting to find out what will (hopefully) be under the tree this Christmas for rusties.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I'm partial to Crazy Horse in the moody, rumbling glacial drift of the "all one song" mode, like a river rolling down or the footsteps of a giant treading no hidden path--hence my fondness for much of the mid-late '90s material. But virtually any Horse is good Horse.
Front page of the Times Contrarian: The Official Bootleg Series will start with 5 titles that will drop unannounced sometime in 2020. Add these to the already announced releases and you will have a lot of choices for under the tree this year. If all of these actually materialize, it’s going to be a expensive holiday season for us rusties. Fingers crossed 🤞

Thanks guys for the thoughts!
ReplyDelete@ Dan - thanks for heads up and will get posted soon. working on a post for ATGR 50th anniversary. Look for that soon.
About the series of bootlegs, in a LTE, Neil talks about the beginning of 2021...
ReplyDeleteAccording to other answers, we can think that two versions (the 2 shows ?) of Carnegie Hall 1970 would be part of the first 5 bootlegs and maybe Cleveland 2/11/1973 ?
I especially hope that this will not be limited to the 70's, I would like the 1990's, 2000's and 2010 not to be forgotten: Booker T and The Mg's in 1993, CH 2001 in Europe, CH 2014, POTR 2016 ...
I guess they will only be concerts available on NYA and not in physical support ... It's not very clear. 100% Neil Young.
In LTE, the unknown album of the week, after Summer Song at the end of July, is named Acoustica but only 2 songs would have been recorded. What's the next one ???
Finally, NY talks about 2 other levels of subscribers... To be continued.
I also noticed the same discrepancy with the date for the bootleg series in the letters, so who knows what will actually happen. Looking forward to the new tech page Neil talks about and also curious about the new subscriber options as well. Still waiting on more outtakes too. It’s definitely a great time to be a NYA subscriber for sure.
