As we have been sharing here @ TW for the past months, another song from the 3 set "RUST BUCKET" concert is being screened on Hearse Theater Screen #2 | NYA

Last year, Neil Young announced a major Archives discovery titled "RUST BUCKET".

This Friday's feature song is "Cortez The Killer" . Neil writes on NYA:

This is the encore from Rust Bucket, one of the best captures of the Horse on film, if not the best. LA Johnson, my partner in crime was in command. Briggs was there onstage with us. I can see him in a couple of shots early in the night. Hanlon in the truck. What an experience that was. I am so thankful for having this film -after all this time. Who knows what else is lurking in the Archives!

ny

The complete concert setlist is 20 songs with a running in total of 3 hours. (See Sugar Mtn for more details). The RUST BUCKET tapes have been called "the missing link between Ragged Glory and Weld".

As noted earlier, a complete multi-camera video (6 cameras?!) was discovered in the NYA vaults. Produced and Directed by the late LA Johnson, the Neil Young & Crazy Horse concert was filmed on November 11, 1990 at The Catalyst in Santa Cruz, California. (See Sugar Mtn for more details). Consisting of 3 sets, plus encore, the video is titled WAY DOWN IN THE RUST BUCKET. Here's an update from Audio Engineer John Hanlon on the earlier announced Archives discovery of Neil Young "unearthing" a major 1990 Crazy Horse concert.

A night to remember with Crazy Horse at the Catalyst.
This is the third set. Almost three hours of music that night. I’ll never forget that show. No big deal. Just real. Billy Talbot just wrote to tell me how happy he was to see it! I sent out the complete version to him. vert recently. Billy helped with the opinions on the mix. When its totlally completed i’ll send it to Ralph and Poncho. It’s gift that the Horse has this to share.

Jack Nitzsche , Neil Young's producer/arranger on the masterpiece "Broken Arrow", has stated that Crazy Horse was the American equivalent of The Rolling Stones. IOHO, Crazy Horse is to Neil Young what The Band was to Bob Dylan. As perfect a complement as tequila and salt.

  1. Lovely version of Cortez, and a splendid conclusion to what has turned out to be a truly remarkable concert. What a blessing to know this is coming soon to vinyl / CD / Download, and Blu Ray.

Along with Return to Greendale, Archive Volume 2, Young Shakespeare, the Bootleg Series, Outtakes, concerts on the Timeline, The Times EP, the 50th anniversary of both After The Gold Rush and Deja Vu...... and who knows what else Neil has planned. Truly an embarrassment of riches to be sure.

Love and only love will endure 🙏

  2. i sincerely think this is close to my favourite ever crazy horse live recording
i've loved getting one new song each week from it (and taping them onto cassette)

this coupled with Homegrown and Return to Greendale and possibly Archives Box set 2 has made 2020 the strongest year yet for archive releases

    thanks Neil!!

  3. @ PL Dr. - so, so right.

@ Dan - yes, a blessing for sure.

An embarrassment of riches. No, a plethora. A deluge, a profusion of abundance.

You almost need a thesaurus to categorize NYA.

@ Carly - cool, taping onto cassette. wow. a lost art.

    a strong year, no doubt.
