From Neil Young Unreleased's Tip Of The Month here is a Neil Young 1985 studio outtake with the International Harvesters of "Your Love Again".
This was a song recorded during Neil Young's Old Ways 2 sessions in 1985.

Will be on the lookout for this on Vol III. Unless Neil decided to only cover through 1981 with that set, and then I’ll be on the lookout for this on Vol. IV.
ReplyDeleteWhile we're on the subject of 1985, don't you think the 1985 *tour* demands a more in-depth celebration than we got on the A Treasure album?
ReplyDeleteI do.
Oh yes, we definitely need the epic New York version of Down by the River. But also Interstate... and This Old House... And Country Home. And so on.
A Treasure is *mostly* focused on the 1984 tour... Which is fine, but it's sort of "Neil Young does country".
Whereas 1985 is "Neil Young does Neil Young with a country band". It's a different attitude and a different sound — more of an edge to it.
Despite offering little more than a taster of the 1985 shows, I like A Treasure how it is. The edgier songs at the end have extra impact exactly *because* they follow a series of more jaunty-sounding tracks.
But a new live album dedicated to summer 1985? Yes please.
Scotsman.

Are those unreleased songs "Time Off for Good Behavior" and "Leaving the Top Forty Behind" part of the 1985 repertoire? I always wondered why these are missing on "A Treasure". Do these unreleased songs and others even make up for another album? This warts-and-all-fan would like to see official releases of these songs, even if Neil Young considered them to be throw-aways because they related to events in his life that were of interest just back then.

Does anyone know who is playing the electric guitar here? Doesn't sound like Neil so it's probably some Nashville cat.
@ Tomatron - always be BOLO w/ Neil.
ReplyDelete@ Scots - definitely. it seems the whole country w/ Neil really evolved into forming a rather all start IH. IOHO, IH eventually led to the all star Bluenotes band.
ps - enjoying the Patreon articles. need to catch up more and post links. feel free anytime to drop links here @ TW.
@ Dionys - good question. the theory that neil holds back in order to create future bonus material has been put out many times. But Neil has always been adamant that he doesn't play that game.
as above, maybe NYA #3? or #4???
Nimrod - huh?! really??
Now that's strange. When we posted the video yesterday, we noticed that had been posted in like 2016. 7 years ago. and we thought, starnge, no comments or likes?
maybe it has always been private on YT, just got made public.
But it is odd that almost as soon as we publish here on TW, it gets pulled.
Almost like someone is watching this blog or something...
@ Hayo - thanks for alt link. let's see how long that stays up.
we'll suggest Anthony Crawford. He can get sort of up front in the mix on jams.
