Oh Brother Dan, Where Art Thou?

"Peace and Love" - Neil Young w/ Pearl Jam
Frame via Official Music Video

Oh Brother Dan, where art thou?

Maybe feeling Neil Young's sadness, as well?

The recent SPOTIFY debacle , ongoing environmental degradation, lack of Neil touring, the loss of guitar tech Kurt,  or the ominous war drums that are beating or a combination of all, brings us down too.

While they just may be only castles burning, it does hurt and we too feel Neil's pain -- viscerally in our hearts and souls.

Your positive and optimistic take on all things Neil is greatly missed here at Thrasher's Wheat. Folks have noticed your absence and inquired.  We do not know whether this might be a unrelated sabbatical or something that was said or not said on this blog.

Be well our friend who we've never seen.

"Yes, that was me with the doves, setting them free near the factory
Where you built your computer, love.
We hope you get the connection, 'cause we can't take the rejection
We won't deceive you."

  2. so long Dan

so long Alan in Seattle (good luck)

so long self-righteous pseudo-intellectual Lil' Abner (please don't return to that 'wretched state of Tennessee' - they don't want you there)

    so long Mr. Henry

    so long SONY

    so long wsanjose01

    so long Tomatron

so long Richie Cruz (a bright spot here for sure)

and finally - so long Thrasher...it's your blog - of course...so please continue censoring speech which you disagree with - we simply can't have differing viewpoints on the internet - that's not right...we need lockstep group-think at all times about everything especially politics

Thrasher pretended to support true free speech when he railed against the fascism that is Fakebook...but he's back in line now - all is well

    I am learning albeit slowly

    peace...

  3. Ok Brother Jonathan.

We'll say to you what we said to Dan:

you know how to get in touch.

  4. @ Jonathan. Goodbye. No need for a “Victory Lap.” We are all here. We are not going anywhere. This is our blog. When you are Anti-Social, it’s not your blog. Have you ever heard that having resentments is like drinking poison, hoping someone else would die? What a sad existence. Why not “Drop the Rock.” ? No need to carry all of that negativity. You are only crapping on yourself.

@ Abner : Glad you are active on TW. We can ignore petty hostility; our last president helped us foster that strength. We who have Empathy know what a sociopath can’t ever know. And we hang in there and fight the good fight where we must, not solely on TW.

@ Thrasher : Dan does not hold resentments. He does not need a baggage cart. I know Dan has some older folks that he looks after and provides care for. He is probably busy, perhaps taking a breather. I will give him a call. I won’t likely report back as Dan posts at will, given the time. As for me, I continue to enjoy every TW post. I am staying busy, working, hiking with dog, about to start bicycling again as the rain tapers off. I am still listening to a lot of Mark Lanegan (and some NY outtakes)… We are slowly preparing to move in the Fall. Too much stuff can be a Burden. Karl Marx was right about that. If I must be owned by my possessions, I choose Music.

    Your Brother Alan in Seattle

  5. @ Brother Alan - thanks for the update.

pls let Dan know that he's missed and appreciated and wishing him all the best.

btw, your tribute to Mark Lanegan: 1964 - 2022 continues to be well rec'd.

If you search "Mark Lanegan" + "neil young", your post comes up #1.

congrats and thanks again for tribute to Mark.

We haven't dug as deep as you on Mark, but will continue to explore. Got a bit sidetracked lately exploring Nick Cave. Another deep subject.

  6. Thanks for the update and info on the Mark Lanegan tribute. His albums are all mostly available at a reasonable prices. Only a couple of his last releases (w/ Not Waving, & Dark Mark vs Skeleton Joe) are not yet available to buy in album form. Hopefully they will be available later. Mark was perhaps the most productive (former) Heroin Addict the world ever hosted. He has some things in Common with Neil Young. His inventiveness and drive to create, the shape shifting. His later music that sounds electronic is actually performed live by a band with a human drummer, etc. He was the Real Deal. This was somehow posted by my iPhone!

So, off to hike in the sun. Gonna meet up with my 83 year old Dad and play some live music. He still kicks ass on the harmonica and is learning guitar. Powderfinger is one we play often.

Always your brother in Seattle. Alan
