Last year, Neil Young announced a major Archives discovery titled "RUST BUCKET".

Every Friday, another song from the 3 set "RUST BUCKET" concert is being screened on NYA. Today's feature song is "CINNAMON GIRL".

Neil writes:
"The series ‘Way Down in the Rust Bucket’ continues. Three sets and an encore and we are still just ending the first set. We’ll be “Chasing the moonlight”

Another tune coming next Friday beginning set #2 . . . .. ‘Way Down in the Rust Bucket’ will be released on Reprise in the Fall - in DVD, High Res and Vinyl! Also - in a special edition for NYA subscribers."
The complete concert setlist is 20 songs with a running in total of 3 hours. (See Sugar Mtn for more details). The RUST BUCKET tapes have been called "the missing link between Ragged Glory and Weld".

As noted earlier, a complete multi-camera video (6 cameras?!) was discovered in the NYA vaults. Produced and Directed by the late LA Johnson, the Neil Young & Crazy Horse concert was filmed on November 11, 1990 at The Catalyst in Santa Cruz, California. (See Sugar Mtn for more details). Consisting of 3 sets, plus encore, the video is titled WAY DOWN IN THE RUST BUCKET.

Here's an update from Audio Engineer John Hanlon on the earlier announced Archives discovery of Neil Young "unearthing" a major 1990 Crazy Horse concert.

  1. The tracklist of the future Rust bucket LP is on NYA.
The show is not complete, Cowgirl In The Sand is missing :-(

And there is an annoucement about the release of official bootlegs... and a call for our requests... Wow.

  2. Official Bootleg Series looks like fun. Using better sound sources and the original artwork is a interesting approach. What a way to finally get even with the bootleggers. It certainly will be fascinating seeing what titles pop up for requests.

When Frank Zappa released his official bootleg series, he just released them exactly like they came out, including wrong titles, personnel, and dates. Pearl Jam was the first band to actually record and release entire tours starting back in 2000, before several other bands joined in. Bob Dylan of course has been releasing his own versions for quit some time now.

Neil is really on a roll this year. With all this free time off the road, it looks as if we all might actually get (almost) everything we've ever dreamed of from Neil. Unreleased albums, Archives Volume 2, films, concerts, bootlegs, downloads, streaming, tee shirts, coffee mugs........................Fireside Sessions.

So far, the only positive development during this pandemic.

    peace

  3. Dreams do come true..... In my recent letter to Neil (which he didn’t publish) I pleaded with him not to give up on the Blu Ray format, and mentioned that many artists were releasing Blu Ray Audio discs, as well as video content. Today I check in on NYA and there is the announcement that Way Down In The Rust Bucket is being mastered, and will be available on 4 LP’s and........ Blu Ray Audio. I am just over the moon about this unexpected turn of events. I never saw this coming to be honest, but then a Bootleg Series was never on my radar either. 2020 is shaping up to be a Neil Young festival, and I’m ready to celebrate it along with all my fellow rusties.

    Peace 🙏

  4. That’s Blu Ray, as in video and audio, not Blu Ray Audio.

    Sorry.

  5. @ Phil - yes, pretty surprising a call for bootleg requests.

Long time coming after decades of discussion. What Would Elliot Do?

@ Dan - another how about that moment?! We're on a roll lately.

An official Way Down In The Rust Bucket on Blu Ray ! This was a widely bootlegged set often known as Feedback is Back.

The multi-cam edit is a real treat.
