  3. I hear a 35 minute 'Long and Winding Road' in my brain.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Can you imagine any contrast as stark as the last three acts of the show?

    Katy Perry

    then

    James Taylor

    then

    ...oh crap,

  5. Just be grateful that Pearl Jam isn't on the bill. We don't want NY getting any bright ideas and swerving off onto a different highway....

    ReplyDelete
  6. Hell YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH The Horse is back, at last

    ReplyDelete
  7. Damn that's a high profile gig for the 1st one in seven years or so...warm up show(s)? somewhere?...

I pray that when Neil's site is updated next it will be FULL of tour dates all over the USA...and while I'm dreaming... how about a pre-sale link similar to the Twisted Road shows last spring?

  8. Sell the house, sell the kids, and pack up the hippie van!! This is friggin' awesome,,,,

  9. don't spook the horse! thank you for the GREAT news, thrasher!

  10. Live and Let Die would be a cool choice. Though I have a hard time seeing Neil sing most of Paul's songs.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I THINK Live and Let Die MIGHT have been done already...MY suggestion? YESTERDAY--yep, that's what I said...and I already know what it might sound like...

    ReplyDelete
  12. @LRR - "A Day in the Life"?

Paul seemed to enjoy it when Neil covered in London a few years back.

Anyone else on suggested covers for NY &CH??

  14. @asg, I think she gave some nookie to Elmo or Cookie Monster a few years back.

I love that Eddie Izzard is hosting.

  15. Helter Skelter!

    ReplyDelete
  16. @ MNOTR--she musta [done] somebody...

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yep. My money is on Helter Skelter also. Hopefully it will be the sludgiest dirtiest Helter Skelter ever played. No wonder they are going on last. No one wants to follow them!

    ReplyDelete
  18. COME AND GET IT would work too I think...

  19. Nathan Johnson2/01/2012 06:14:00 PM

It will be "Let Me Roll It"

    ReplyDelete
  20. it will be: Hey Jude!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. A Crazy ''Let me Roll it'' could be fun!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. JUNIOR'S FARM ? That would be something...

    ReplyDelete
  23. Does anyone remember when Paul McCartney did Helter Skelter on the rooftop of the Ed Sullivan Theater? I don't know how you can top. (Okay Neil could destroy that song, I agree.)

How about "Baby You Can Drive My Car?"

@asg, I just heard that song on NPR. LOL

  24. My wife and I met Neil and Poncho a year ago last july, Im not going to say where but they were very cool we talked a bit about venues ive seen them at(to be honest i was almost speechless) and they did us the plesure of doin a few pictures and as they walked away he looked back and said we will see you at (bla bla)my favorite venue.... I said you guys are gonna tour again / and he gave me a thumbs up....I was starting to loose hope when he did the Buffallo springfield gigs, But wow maybe this is really gonna happen

    ReplyDelete
  25. Day Tripper was always my 2nd favorite.

    ReplyDelete
  26. In the past XM has broadcast this show so maybe it'll be on again this year.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I wonder who's gonna do Mull of Kintyre? Alison Krauss?

    ReplyDelete
  28. I agree, 'Helter Skelter' is custom made for Neil and The Horse. Let Me Roll It would also be a good choice, but H.S. has my vote!

    ReplyDelete
  29. @ MNOTR--I think you got something there...

    ReplyDelete
  30. @ asg, foo fighters - golden slumbers or day tripper or baby you can drive my car

    ReplyDelete
  31. @asg, oh Sweet Baby James - definitely Long and Winding Road

    Cold Play - Hey Jude?

    What you got?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Norah Jones--Good Day Sunshine? Diana Krall-- ?

guess I got next to nuthin'

    ReplyDelete
  33. Diana can do "Long and Winding Road." Maybe Sweet Baby James will do "Golden Slumbers" or "Maybe I'm Amazed?"

It'll be a nice surprise. Great line up.

    ReplyDelete
  34. What about a 20 minute version of "I am the Walrus"??

    ReplyDelete
  35. Well, why not, the walrus was Paul.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Dirty Young Man2/02/2012 07:48:00 AM

Haha, i'm the Walrus would be great, Neil should take his '82 trans equipment back from under the dust for that.
    That would be so awesome!
(but not a good combination with the Horse...)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Neil running the Horse through McCartney's "Long Haired Lady" with the Horse's out of tune harmony vocals, that would be a hoot!

Other innaresting Macca tunes I'd like to hear em do include....

    Backseat of My Car
    House of Wax

    ReplyDelete
  38. neil straps on his "trans" shades, billy straps on his keytar, poncho step behind the midi, and ralph puts on the headphones and triggers drum loops and samples for a killer rendition of "temporary secretary".

    ReplyDelete
  39. Here's the cool thing .... They could play Anything and it would be instantly awesome!

    Best comment from Anon:)
'Sell the house, sell the kids, and pack up the hippie van!! This is friggin' awesome,,,,"

  40. Who cares what song they do--- just so they do it. Whatever it is will bring happy tears to my eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  41. "do you or don't you want me to love you"

    ReplyDelete
  42. We Can Work It Out because it's a true Lennon/McCartney song (equal parts) and it completely relates to what's happening on so many levels. And it was the other side to the Day Tripper 45 (which side was A? does it matter?) which IMHO was the greatest single in the history of R&R (and also the first one I ever bought with my own $$).

They'll do a version that moves between slow loping country and big loud rock, then will do some other music quotes (maybe Give Peace A Chance), then move into I Saw Her Standing There for a verse or two, finally coming back to the final chorus with Neil telling himself, the band and the world that "We Can Work It Out".

Or they might do Long Tall Sally....

  43. Lotta people are mentioning John songs. Day in the Life is mostly John (except for the middle 8, of course).

My first thought was "Let Me Roll It". Somehow,a horse-ified version of "Band on the Run" would be innaresting. Not "Day Tripper". Here would be my list for NY and CH:

    Let Me Roll It
    Band on the Run
    Get Back
Why Don't We Do it in the Road?
She Came in Through the Bathroom Window
    Oh Darling
You Never Give Me Your Money
    Hellen Wheels
    Junior's Farm
    Good Day Sunshine
    Rocky Racoon (with feedback)
    Jet
    Venus and Mars/Rock Show
With a Little Luck (imagine that with Old Black)
    Let It Be

What I wouldn't be too thrilled about is Helter Skelter (too obvious. Something like "Mother Nature's Son" compressed, distorted, and shooting like a welder all over the place would be mind blowing.

  44. I HATE PAUL MCCARTNEY. Terrible songwriting, the only songs I can dig by him are on The Beatles and Abbey Road. I CANNOT stand songs like Let It Be, Long and Winding Road or Your Mother Should Know.

I've always felt as though Neil was way more like John regarding songwriting. I was listening to Sometimes in NYC too recently and I thought it really rocked, Neil-style.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Hate is a pretty ugly word, Alex. Maybe his songs are not your thing. That's okay.

@BC, I can't imagine any child having a childhood without hearing Rocky Racoon at least a few time song around a campfire. I grew up in that "other" state next to SD so we sang it a lot.

I'd like to see Leo Kottke doing "Blackbird" but he wasn't invited. So Alicia will probably do it on the piano. It's okay but nothing to write home about.

  46. Lucy in the Sky
Strawberry Fields... You know what, they are closing so it will be Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Band Reprise.

    Dug

    ReplyDelete
  47. Sgt. Pepper was my least favorite, quite honestly. Paul's song always reminded me of "show tunes." Maybe that's what Alex means.

My favorite McCartney songs are in the albums Hlep (Another Girl) Rubber Soul (Drive My Car-Looking Through You), Let It Be (Get Back), all of side 2 on Abbey Road, and all on the white album.

I think the lady in this video looks a lot like McCartney's current wife:

  48. Helter Skelter is the song they should play together with Charlie Manson singing back up.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I think Neil and Crazy Horse will do a medley of Beatles and post Beatles, so how about...

    Golden Slumbers/Band on the Run!

What ever it is it's going to be good!

    Grungy

    ReplyDelete
  50. Congratulations "Anonymous"...your Charlie Manson comment now tops my list for the worst joke attempt ever and also worst comment ever! You must be so proud....

    ReplyDelete
  51. Helter Skelter is probably one of the best songs of all time.

Choosing it for a book title about a cold-blooded murdering-psychotic hippie cult group was not a good idea although Paul has done a good job trying to get his song back over the years.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I think the book title refers to what Manson called his philosophy of the racial war he hoped to start...of course Manson got the name from the song...

    ReplyDelete
  53. I agree that Helter Skelter is a great song. I still have the original White Album that I bought way back in February 1969; I've listened to that copy, another one and at least three CD's worth since then.

And the joke and comment weren't really "worst ever". I'm just extremely tired of the whole Manson thing and wish it would go away. So anyway not any big deal.

Still recovering from the game. Grew up a Giants fan in NY and became a Pats fan after relocating to New England. Right now kinda caught in the middle. But have to say I wasn't too impressed with the commercials or half time show. Time to put away some of the CGI toys for awhile and get back to creativity. But congratulations to the Giants and all of their fans out there!

    ReplyDelete
  54. ...and I just realized that the MusiCares show is on February 10, which is the one year anniversary of the Carnegie Hall tribute show for Neil. What great memories!

    ReplyDelete
  55. I didn't know what motivated Paul to compose this until I read up on Wiki, but when Paul sets out to create a song he wants to define in the way he defined Helter Skelter, he gave it 200%.

I think we need to reclaim Helter Skelter for the song that it was meant to be. The song we played when we hit that chord of frustration in our life. The song we need to hear to shake things up a bit -- like when we put soil and water into a jar and shake it -- to watch how slowly the particles float to regroup at the bottom.

When we hear, "Do you, don't you, want me love you?"

    WOW!!!
