Our 10 Year Anniversary of Neil Young w/ Crazy Horse Europe 2013 Alchemy Tour

4 concerts in 3 countries in 5 days
Thrasher's Wheat Radio Goes To Europe!

10 years ago, we were in the midst of planning our concert dream trip of a life time: Neil Young w/ Crazy Horse in Europe 2013 for the Alchemy Tour.

The itinerary:

  • 2013-06-02 Waldbühne, Berlin, Germany - Opening Date of Summer Tour of Neil Young & Crazy Horse
  • 2013-06-03 O2 World, Hamburg, Germany
  • 2013-06-05 Ziggo Dome, Amsterdam, Netherlands
  • 2013-06-06 Le Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy, Paris, France

4 concerts in 3 countries in 5 days.

In addition, we had so much enthusiastic support and encouragement from our fellow fans. From all across Europe and around the world, we had generous offers of concert tickets, lodging, transportation and financial support which was so wonderfully gratifying to see how much folks really wanted to help make this happen.

The Europe adventure was a journey to the heart, mind and soul. Past, present and future with old and new friends. Alchemy, baby.

As we went In Search of the Holy Rail, we discovered The Magic Love of A Very Hot Night in Paris. To say it was all momentous would be the understatement of a lifetime as the TWR crew hit 4 concerts in 3 countries in 5 days. Exhilarating and exhausting, we wouldn't buy, sell, borrow or trade for anything different.

Anything.

First -- and foremost -- a sincere thanks to all who have supported Thrasher's Wheat Radio Goes To Europe for Neil Young & Crazy Horse journey! We couldn't have done that without all of our loyal, dear readers' and listener's generosity and confidence. Folks who welcomed us into their homes sight unseen. Folks who donated extra tickets for nothing more than a shirt and button.

Thanks to all who made this happen! Especially folks like Geoff, for logo design. Dee & Tim, for button production. Donna & Terri for all of the love & support in Paris. HarryO, organizer extraordinaire. Roel, Mr. "Live music is better". Marilyn, Neil singer with songs. Henrik, for the warmth and hosting generosity in Berlin. Alexander, and the Berlin pre-fest. Rainer, for hosting the Berlin club gig. Scott & Lou, for their initial enthusiasm and project support.

And big thanks to all those Rusties like Cathy & Ron, Tyler - our man on a rail, Nan, Kurt - our Travel Angel, Jacqueline - of iced towel fame, Uwe - AR Girls sign man, Neil, Olaf, Andrea, Denis, Paul D., Vincent & Dad, Graeme, Cor, Nick K., Erik D., Albert S., Johnny "Song Dog", and all the other rusties around the world!

And of course the TWR crewmates: Eric, Tony, & Howell.

Last by not least, Neil Young w/ Crazy Horse.

And the Crazy Horse Personnel: Neil, Billy, Ralph, & Poncho:
"Crazy Horse personnel would like to wish you all a big thank you tonight.

We hope you travel safely when you leave this building. We hope to see you somewhere the next time. We know some of you have children, and we hope they’re home sleeping soundly without a worry in the world, ready to have a good time tomorrow. And we do know we’re lucky to be here with you. The next time we meet we may not all be here so let’s thank each other for being here tonight.

From all Crazy Horse personnel, our entire crew, we want to remind you; don’t leave anything behind because tomorrow someone else will be here."

  1. If memory serves me and it might not, I saw posters for Neil and the Horse in Lucca Italy 2013. We could not attend.

  2. I had been to the show before Lucca which happened in Stuttgart, Germany. The venue there has an awful low ceiling and those extended feedback orgies not only came on like a wall of noise and cacophony they also crippled the setlist down to a mere 14 songs. Of the handful of Crazy Horse shows I attended this one probably was the least memorable, but we finally got to see the Live Rust stage props. I did not make it to the rail being late to the show and maybe that's why I did not catch on. I am still waiting for that Alchemy Live album that was promised a while ago.

  3. I caught the Alchemy Seattle show with Los Lobos, another of my favorite bands. I love the album, PP, and the many great songs. Great short songs, great long songs and dirge drone endings to ignite the world. It was a joy to witness, the band having so much fun! Big smiles on Neil’s face frequently. Joy is evident in the photos of you, Thrasher, & other folks from Alchemy Europe.

I don’t have the means to travel outside the US, spending my days working overtime to pay the bills, in one of the most expensive cities in the world. But I will die a lucky bastard, one way or the other. My high water mark with Neil was 1996, when I saw Crazy Horse / Neil 8 x in a year, and like a spoiled kid at Christmas, 6 were Old Princeton Landing shows, one of which I snuck into with a hastily made fake wristband, which granted my buddy & I entry into the 150 crowd capacity tavern. Neil Young & Crazy Horse! I got to shake Billy’s hand near the 6” tall stage. 5’ away from Neil, found the holy rail despite no rail (!).

Thank you Neil for deciding to take One More Ride….. Long May You Run! We will see you soon!

  4. At 21 years old, I flew from Newfoundland to Montreal for this tour. Met some nice people in lineup. The Sadies and Patti Smith were the openers. Unbelievable night. My ears were fucked up for days. Still have that weirdass Canadian statue of liberty alchemy tour poster.

  6. Alchemy Tour at Red Rocks was a huge highlight for my wife and I, as it was her first Crazy Horse show and my seventh. Now that Poncho has retired, it would be our last. The show was a high point in our concert history together. We have the actual show on both CD and DVD thanks to the generosity of a fellow ‘Thrasher’, and we have relived it many many times over the years.

    Don’t forget love….🙏

  7. Hi Trasher and friends.
Wow, ten years ago! I went to Berlin and stood just behind you guys. Then I met you all in Hamburg before the concert and become the proud owner of a Thrashers Wheat badge! Great gigs. Miss those unique occasions of eating at McDonalds at 1 in the morning with 200 other Neil Fans. Thanks for showing the pic of yourself, Mario, Cor and I, memories for all of us who went on the Euro tour of 2013. David, Ireland.
