Neil Young Considers A 'Eco-diesel tour'

NYA | Road Stories

The Neil Young concert drought continues going into its 3rd year.

So we feel very fortunate to have seen Neil Young's last live concert performance at Farm Aid  Alpine Valley Music Theatre, East Troy, Wisconsin on Sept 21, 2019.

Earlier this year, Neil Young said that he had no 2022 tour plans "Until my bus is electric".

In a post on NYA | Road Stories, Neil Young writes that last year he tried to put together a fleet of electric tour vehicles, "But that has proven to be a very daunting task."

Discussing 'eco-diesel' or “Green Diesel”, Neil Young writes:

"The fuel reduces the emissions from a music tour, which undoubtedly contribute to the climate catastrophe, by 70 to 80 percent.

I've tried it on my bus and my 1962 diesel Mercedes and it works great in all the conditions I've encountered. I've found it to be quite reliable.

With this fuel I could go on tour again without emitting excessive CO2, and that's really important to me. So important that I haven't wanted to tour for the past few years."

So everything looks better".

  1. Aint that interesting ? Really " Eco-diesel tour "

I figure he'd be hard pressed ta get that there Lintvolt and tour bus beyond the King's Highway from Thunder Bay down through Wawa ... the Soo .
More than likely would end up filling up with the chip stand peanut oil in Thessalon or Blind River .

If he waits a year or so , Canada will have a moderate Prime Minister Pollievre that will utilize the worlds 3rd Largest oil deposits to save Neil Young the hassle of burning and polluting with dirty dictator oil to fly his Danger Birds .

Maybe it's just a Hippie Dream ....the plan to convert oil revenues to develop Canada's vast supply of Lithium , Cobalt , Nickel .... may alow Neil one last Mother Earth tour in his beloved Born In Ontario ... Eh

  2. @Fort Mac I truly have no idea what the hell you just said.

  3. Fort Mac is a person obviously paid to promote an Albertan caricature of a Canadian. As you might know Alberta's oil industry is very interested in selling syncrude, the dirtiest and most dangerous derivate of fossil fuel resources which is produced in the Fort MacMurray area in Northern Alberta. Neil Young is a critic of the fossil fuel industry and spoke out especially and frequently against Albertan tar sands exploitation (see cover of "Who's Gonna Stand Up?" and you know why). Fort Mac hides behind coarse and sometimes incoherent language and starts rambling when energy issues are mentioned on this blog. His attitude is pretty genuine for a certain type of Canadian along the line of "Now that we ruined the Newfoundland Banks' marine resources, let's go to Fort Mac and rip off another resource". Hence the mentioning of yet another pipe dream about mineral resources such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel. Let there be no mistake: This kind of rustic trolling is anything but harmless, if you look at the contribution these people make in their area and climate-wise world-wide. (Again: see cover of "Who's Gonna Stand Up?").

  4. Thanks Nimrod & Dionys for chiming here on Ft Mac's trolling.

fyi. These types of blatant trolls are easy to spot. Now whether just to outright delete them is the question.

We go back and forth over the opportunity they present.

Dionys reply is a perfect example of the "teachable moment". the "teachable moment" to spot the troll, where the troll has deeply flawed thinking, while interjecting one's thought on the subject such as energy independence.

That said, we do NOT have the time to handle every situation. When time is tight, we may just delete Ft MAC robo-troll types. But sometimes we let sit, hoping someone like Dionys can calmly reply.

"An Internet troll is someone who enters an online discussion and posts comments designed to upset or disrupt the conversation. The "Dark Tetrad" personality traits include narcissism, Machiavellianism, psychopathy, and sadism.

  6. Dioys .... I'll tell ya who paid me today .

After an early rise to collect eggs from the hen house , enjoyed a cup of tea on the porch along with the morning pair of cardinals at the feeder . before headin into town in me truck to pick up mason jars .
As it is the busy Harvest season with short time to pickle the beets , bring in the taters to the cold storage .
After lunch of a pickled herring sandwich with fresh cucumbers fron the garden , I cut the grass with a gas powered lawnmower . Settled into the chair on the porch and proceeded to clean my deer rifle with Hopps #9 gun oil in preparation of harvesting a free range doe .

I'm tired of listening to privileged dope smoking hippies , that wear Mother Earth t-shirts , don't think twice of jumpin on a jet plane ...and then proceed to preach to me about the sins of fossil fuels .

    Who paid you today ?

  7. Thrasher ... I question the integrity of your words , on one hand you disagree with censorship of Facebook ( what ever that is ? ) in banning your website .
You openly refer to me as a troll , a voice not in line with your version of free thought or welcomed in your of all knowing Neil Young cult .
Sleep well the next time you quote a Neil Young song and use the word peace .

Please enlighten me to what I have said that is not in your realm of Freedom ?

  8. Whenever a certain type of Canadian is caught touting another round of predator capitalism that Canadian resource extracting industries are known for, the typical reaction is a claim to be merely a “hauler of water and hewer of wood” living the simple life in some loghouse far from civilization. Mind you: just before that the very same person was an expert on eco-diesel rock`n`roll tours and “moderate” future Canadian prime ministers supported by these very resource extracting industries.

Almost never it occurrs to this type of Canadian, that their hunting, potato, and chicken operations are based on the assumption that their activities are totally unaffected by toxic tailings, sterile lands after the attempt to clean up the tar sand operation mess, the destruction of hydrological systems, not to speak of the accelerating effects the use of tars sands derivates has on global climate-change. Well, I have disturbing news for the computerized log cabin: your area will be among the ones hit hardest by climate change. For the hunters: There will be a time your children and grandchildren will be eating on skinny mule-deer (if there are any at all) as opposed to good moose meat.

And of course it also doesn’t matter to this type of Canadian, that the oil extracting industry in the neighborhood trampled underfoot the treaty, environmental and human rights of native nations and communities who made their livelihood on hunting and trapping without jeopardizing the future of generations to come, a way of life that strangely resembles the one that this type claims to be his own.

And yes, it is really tiresome to explain over and over again that I am not in possession of Mother Earth t-shirts and never ever boarded a plane without thinking more than twice about the benefits and effects that would have. In my capacity and career as a geo-scientist and as a human rights activist I have been travelling in Alberta including Fort MacMurray and other parts of Canada. I would not have done that if Canadians in the north had been respecting human rights and global environmental concerns. In that context I am very glad that a musician that most people here admire very much is trying hard to minimize the ecological footprint of his business. Cat calls like the first comment on this thread are just not helpful because they are misleading.

  9. Dionys ..... Thank-you for acknowledging the everyday people concerns .

Your vast use of words are so impressive , but yet less so when you peel it back and take a look at the core of the apple .

I , as many , have no choice but to continue to use fossil fuels .

I will continue to respond to posts , that portray Neil Young as an environmental guru , with posts of a million dollar plus Lintvolt cars along with bio-diesel buses not realistically obtained by those , that have bought the records and t-shirts , travelled far and wide to his live shows and continue to enjoy the music ..... less the rich man hippie rock star preaching .

I cooked a venison roast on an open fire today , shared it in good company with friends and family . Feeling grateful to question with an independent mind .... with no remorse and a pure heart in doing so ....

  10. Neil Young is not an environmental guru but an entrepreneur with a fairly large operation and thus burdened with quite a few responsibilities. They are larger and more in number than most people have to carry. Compared to the average reader or commenter on this blog he is also super-rricht There is nothing wrong with a guy trying to do the right thing and putting his talents, his riches and his outreach capacities where his mouth is.

  11. Dionys

I will continue to be kind in response to your assumptions of a truthful way of life that I shared . I spent the day , harvesting wood , from a well managed woodlot...that sucks up C02 from you city folks that preach to us common farmers .... about the sins of fossil fuels .
I plowed two fields taday .... with a diesel engine , in order to feed you bleeding heart city folk ... that really have no realistic thought of were your food comes from .
Dionys ..... what did you do today to help this human species .... that would allow you to wear and defend those that wear a Mother Earth T- shirt ?
