Here is a preview track of "The Losing End" from the new Neil Young album 'Songs For Judy', scheduled for release tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 30.
The archival album (Performance Series #07) titled "Songs For Judy" is a double album, "Songs For Judy" with 23 songs from the acoustic sets of the November 1976 "Crazy Horse" tour.

ReplyDeleteGiving the hype around NYA subscribers getting to hear releases first, I'm surprised this got posted to YouTube before it hit NYA (I'm a subscriber). I do hope we get the streaming of Songs for Judy that it was announced earlier this week to start tonight at 8 PM PST.

DeleteWhile the hardcore fans on this website most likely will have heard these songs if not the bootlegged collection previously, this really is peak material presented in pristine audio. I listened to this the whole way through this morning and it really is gorgeous, stoney and melodic. The casual Neil fan deserves to hear this too.

like others, it seems, the announcement of this album left me un-excited...but my little local music store, who sometimes, will let me have a copy a few days early, offered this up and i had to pull the trigger...again, this might have been a release i skipped. or at least didn't pick up right away. i mean, how special is archives vol.2 going to be if this era keeps getting stand alone issues? anyway, i had picked up a few other things that day and finally threw the songs for judy on... Wow! i put this up with the massey hall show. it sounds fantastic!! great versions of great songs, little moments all over the place man needs a made hurricane synth intro, banjo human highway, white line, here we are in the years, maybe my favourite acoustic mr soul, six string pocahontas...i could go on. and i had the bernstein tape boot leg. but this is standing as one of my absolute favourites of the archive releases so far...this seems insane, but, folks...give 1976 live acoustic neil a chance, its pretty great.

ReplyDeleteso get this. Ticketmaster is now re-selling tickets too. so tickets i got for 60 on Weds. are 150 now , same exact website . not even fees yet. son of a bitch. i must be naive. but it pisses me off. how many times can they make money, same ticket. motherfukers
ReplyDeleteThere's possibly an interesting insight into Neil's creative process in the Archive extras for Songs For Judy. The Human Highway folder contains a beautiful concert review by David W. Chandler for the Wisconsin State Journal. It talks of the theme of Neil's songs as being about the will to live, or the effort to live. Next time Neil was in the studio, when the tour was over, he's laying down The Will To Love. Its hard to believe he didn't read that review and it sparked something.

Banjo Human Highway is a real revelation. Just before Neil says something like he'd been trying to record HH for years but something always got in the way? hmmm.

This is one of the most satisfying releases yet, of so many! A slew of unreleased songs and fantastic versions of others. I swear I can hear Like A Hurricane being born in the intro to A Man Needs A Maid. Good lord, what a gold mine! Thank you Neil Young! Thank you Thrasher! Alan in Seattle
