Neil Young Continues Passionate Defense of Earth

LAST YEAR, THIS YEAR, NEXT YEAR
via Neil Young's Archives (NYA) Times-Contrarian

Neil Young continues to stand up in his passionate defense of life on Earth.

In his latest posting on Neil Young Archives (NYA) Times-Contrarian, "LAST YEAR, THIS YEAR, NEXT YEAR", Neil discusses the climate changes and the need for action.

From a letter to TW from Texas Buffalo Hunter:
I'm sorry to hear about Neil losing his home in the fire. Having been through several floods, you feel helpless against something you can't fight.

Neil is my all-time favorite; his music has painted images in my mind and left me in a state I wish I could always be in.

God Bless, Neil. I hope you outlive me.

You'll never hear, know, or care, but I would be seeing the end of something I never want to stop.
Neil Young fans continue to deabte the cause and meaning of all of this calamity on Zuma Beach is Burning: We Are NOT Helpless. Jump in and keep it civil.

In the meantime, here's Neil Young performing "Mother Earth" at the Farm Aid concert in Raleigh, NC on September 13, 2014.

  1. look, I love neil and his passion, but he is and has always been to some extent a very simple thinker. you can't just place the whole blame for this situation on climate change. santa ana winds have been around for a long time. there have been poor forest practices for many years as well, mostly involving fire suppression tactics which have led to historically unprecedented fuel loads. you have people building further and further into the wildland urban interface. and, yes, you have a warming climate and drought conditions. these are ALL factors, yet neil shoots himself in the foot by only focusing on one. in some ways, he's kind of like the reverse trump.

    1. Agreed. He only looks at it from one side. I like his music, sure. Not his political views on anti-Trump.

  2. Neil Young is not infallible and Joe Mama's comments with regards to wildfires in California appear to be correct: this vegetation zone is shaped by a fire ecology, Santa Ana winds are are consequence of regional climate patterns and people have developped property in areas where they shoud not, not to speak of PG&E. The drought on the West Coast is a totally different chapter and The Donald phenomenon a world-wide disaster another one. It is something totally different to overreact to the loss of your home and neighbourhood, something very personal, than to comment politically on a tragedy that cost the lives of dozens of people. What is so appalling for the ones on the outside looking in is the fact that it seems to be ok for official politicians in the US to show this kind heartlessness just for political gain.

  3. Bonsoir de Paris

Terrible these images ... in California ...... From walls of fires in floods or tornados of mud and water there is something serious !! for years we've seen the earth change by humans, these alerts do not seem to worry all these people powers that "manage" their world.I do not think Neil Young fires on .. (fortunately).
We are moving towards a deadline that is the survival of humanity, the land of animals and simply men? No? Should not we change for planetary management
simple and effective with a philanthropic humaniTerre sense .....
A thought for all, Earthmen who suffer in their beings and flesh until the morning comes new days arrive ...

  4. I feel that it is simple minded to focus on the debate about whether or not climate change is human-made, and in trying to explain away the causes for these phenomena as natural. When in fact you’re missing the whole point. Climate change or no climate change, it really doesn’t matter, pollution is bad. It may be unavoidable on some level but if we take the side of Mother Earth we must reduce pollution as much as possible in order to protect her. If you prefer the side of Grandfather Economy, well, you will say the things I’m hearing in the comments above and you will hoe your own row.

  5. To the Trumpateers from above: our climate is changing and getting hotter, there are consequences to that fact. In my 53 years living in the midwest, I see the changes. These changes were not a slow change, but a rapid change in the last few years. These fires in California are from Climate Change.

As Neil says, "The Earth is speaking to us, are we going to listen"?

  9. Thanks to all for thoughtful comments here on a painful subject -- no matter where one stands on the spectrum.

Actually, we think Neil had this figured out pretty well back in 2013. On the Australia/New Zealand tour leg, Neil Young debuted a new song "There's A Hole In The Sky".

The lyrics -- while somewhat general and vague -- are quite specific that Yes, There's Definitely A Hole in The Sky. The evidence was irrefutable then. Even more so now.

Be the rain. Be the wheat.

  11. The obvious point here is that, yes, fires exist, but Global Warming is making the situation MUCH WORSE. Unless politicians and Government try to mitigate pollution & burn less fossil fuels, our descendants will see Hell on Earth. Trump is the devil for dismantling clean air rules and pollution standards. Taxpayers should not be subsidizing the Oil industry. Alan in Seattle

  12. Trump is a piece of shit ,period. I'm not sure climate change had anything to do with these tragic fires. But that doesn't change a thing about Trump. You support that piece of shit, keep your comments off this page.Neil and his fans do not want to hear from you here. Go to FOX's Nazi propaganda page and post there.FUCK TRUMP and PENCE!

  13. @ Richard - easy now. appreciate the passion but we've specifically asked folks not to mindlessly lash out here.

This is exactly what TPTB want us to do. To be at each other's throats. Divide & conquer is working very well for TPTB. As long as Neil fans (& other segments of society) are divided, then they are unable to focus on the true, root cause.

join us. walk with us. know your enemy.

    peace
