A lot rain at tonight. No Twisted Road or Singer WIthout A Song
ReplyDeleteTonight provided one of the best concert experiences ever!
ReplyDeleteIt started raining hard as Crazy Horse played Cinnamon Girl, when they finished they stopped and Neil was pointing up at the roof as it poured with rain, initially we thought the stage roof must have been leaking but he was gesturing for the organ to be lowered for Like Hurricane (Frank Sampedro plays it).
They launched into Like a Hurricane and the rain got heavier and started blowing in on to the stage, it was like Neil was standing under a hose as he was playing and singing - he didn't stop though he just powered through - it was sheer magic.
He also managed to get a couple of "towel solos" in while trying to dry Old Black as he kept playing.
It was truly something special.
And we got Rockin In the Free World straight after Like a Hurricane! First time it was played on the tour.
ReplyDeleteThe set was shorter than the two Melbourne shows, it went about 2:10.
Mr Soul was devastating in its ferocity.

it was magic. The sight of Neil and band playing on into the driving rain - Like a Hurricane - is one I will never forget. They went up a notch after that
ReplyDeleteit was magic. The sight of Neil and band playing on into the driving rain - Like a Hurricane - is one I will never forget. They went up a notch after that - and us gate crashers at the edge were finally able to accept Neil's invitation to come closer
ReplyDeleteThankyou Neil and the Horse.
ReplyDeleteWhat a send-off. Hurricane an absolute ball tearer in driving punishing rain. Perfect.

ReplyDeleteBrilliant night. Only Neil and Crazy Horse could pull that off in those conditions. Something everyone there will never forget. Magic night. Once that heavy rain blew in they took the show to another level. The whole show was a highlight. I can still smell The Horse....
ReplyDeleteWow. They weren't kidding about the rain! Here's about a minute of "Hurricane" played in hurricane like conditions! Wow!!! SJ

ReplyDeleteNeil Young with Crazy Horse - 4 shows is not enough but the last was unforgettable. Hurricane On The Hill at the Hill Winery in Geelong, VIC. When they started Like A Hurricane I was so elated as I've never seen it live. But when the heavens opened and Poncho's organ was getting blown over the edge of the stage like a child's swing with torrential rain pouring down and Poncho giving up and then when the tarpaulin on the roof overflowed right onto Neil and the sheets of water came in they started to shut the song down. I was bitterly disappointed. Then what ? Neil saw all the equipment was still working, he shoke off a lightning strike, eyed god squarely, and said "Go on I dare you, electrocute me it's your choice". God choose to let Neil and Crazy Horse complete the song. I have never experienced anything drive so much emotional energy through my body. Stage, performers and equipment flooded. 66 year old guys should take more care ! Phenominal !
I was in the back section as the rain came pelting down and the wind blustered. I knew something was up as a cheer/cry erupted during Hurricane. It must have been the tarpaulin crashing water all over the stage as mentioned. From where I stood there was no hesitation not more than a second although the sound did temporarily break up. The solo continued with white towel at hand. How can that be? Must be the 50 years of performing experience. The song swirled and rose. The crowd was rising to the call with movement and cheers and I forgot the rain. By the time Free world was finished, I had knew it was already the best concert of my life
ReplyDeleteand it was my fourth NY concert. God Bless 'im.

An update to Gary's video of the astonishing Hurricane we saw on 16th ...

Still figuring how to edit videos but more important to get to the world.
It was brilliant to see. All night it was light on/off drizzling rain and nothoing more. Immediately 'Hurricane' started the wild winds and torrential rain also started and continued through the whole song. When the song finished so did the wild weather. I was sitting about 10 rows from the front and was overwhelmed by the whole experience. When the song and wild weather finished my mate turned to me and said 'That's the best special effects I've ever seen live'. Of course, he was definately correct.
