  2. That’s BS. This was a lively and inspired, fantastic show! Neil’s Singing was top notch! My family was very keen to hear old Man & Harvest Moon, & both were played!

    [set list from Sugar Mountain]

I was thrilled to hear Sail Away & Roll Another # also.

I think the sound on Neil’s microphone was set up poorly at Bend. It seemed to pick up only part of his delivery. It was sharp and “cruel.” His voice at Bend did croak a bit, crack a bit.

Not so at Hollywood Bowl. They sang like angels!

And I got to meet Knowledge Nomad in the special $30 Thrasher’s Wheat seating area! He was the one who got the word out & that is why we got to go!

He spotted me in TW tie dye & we had a laugh, took some pics.

    What a tour! Thanks Neil!

Micah Nelson blew it up with his powerful & inspiring 2nd guitar playing. He was great. Corey, Anthony, Spooner, Neil! The band was in great form.

    Naysayers missed out.

  3. Was very glad to be able to catch this show. I had avoided this blog and other places where I might have had spoilers about what to expect. That was the right move because the set was full of wonderful surprises. Not a set for the casual fan, who were probably scratching their heads at the bold and sublime opener of Ambulance Blues or lost when he broke out Long Walk Home and Name of Love, not to mention 2 tracks from Greendale. But for the aficionados, it was delightful. Very powerful to hear Southern Man followed by Ohio (with convincingly and emotively growling Crosby's part) followed by Big Crime.

And a treat to meet my brother Alan in Seattle and his family!

The Bowl is not a great venue, imho. This set probably would have played better across the street at The Ford where it's intimacy could be better appreciated. The number of people who chose to experience the show by watching it through their phone screens recording another screen was annoying, but in the end, the music rang true. For several years now, I've wondered, is this the last time I get to see Neil play live? If it was, it was a worthy ending. And if not, I look forward to what comes next.

  5. @Knowlage Nomad : So awesome you and Alan got to meet, and he shared a photo of you two, so it’s great to have a face to go along with your excellent posts here on Thrashers. Sounds like you both had a great show. Definitely a brilliant play list for us Rusties.

    Peace to all 🙏

    3. Good review. I'd quibble with him about whether it was loud (I didn't think it was). But that's subjective and dependant on where you sit, and, more importantly, doesn't detract from his main point. This was a show who could appreciate Neil's deep catalog and did not need to only hear the familiar. To the first poster who said this was a snoozer, I could see how someone would feel that way if they weren't that steeped in the catalog and had expectations of hits.

    4. I had expectations of a rocking show, to close a rocking tour, but this show just wasn't very rocking, regardless of the set list, sorry. ( Yes it would have been much better received at the Ford, across the way. All four of those shows were wonderful two years ago.) The timing on Southern Man was just off, and there were a few croaks & cracks throughout, not quite the flawless performance that others would have you believe. I was also disappointed not to see Mr. Soul again, with the newly found, old guitar. Fortunately, this was not my only show of this tour. It was a good show, but it was not a great show. Hopefully there will be a good recording posted that we can listen to carefully. Maybe I will change my mind?

  8. Thanks for all of the reports folks.

Especially glad to hear that Bother Alan and Knowledge Nomad connected.

OK, tour is now over and onto Farm Aid #40. After we return, we'll work on a tour summary similar to Leg#1.

  10. Yes, what a show! I was so glad my family got to see this performance because it truly was spectacular. They were impressed, I was impressed.

The thread that ran thru this show was highly political / environmental / free speech oriented. The lyrics to the songs he chose spoke to this moment in American History very well.

Free speech? Anti Fascist? These are GOOD values. Funny to designate an idea as a “terrorist organization.” We seem to be devolving as a country.
