Review: Particle Kid (Micah Nelson), @ Barboza, Seattle, WA - 4/4/24
by Our Brother Alan in Seattle

The show was was fantastic. Micah played rhythm guitar all night while the other guitarist played lead. The band is made up of top musicians. The bass player is very talented and energetic. Micah sings well and manages to deliver sounds with this band that are unique and effective. He runs the gamut from grunge to psychedelic, folk Rock to acid jazz, and then some!

The multimedia projected Art / video was tremendously Artistic. He makes all of the posters for the bands. My friends & I met up with Micah and the Bass player after the small crowd thinned out. Nice guys, no ego, pleasant and friendly. As we talked, I praised his performance & told him I was headed to San Diego to see him with Neil & the Horse soon. Micah has talent and power that will fit right in with the band on Neil's tour. He plays just rhythm, so this is perfect.

They did a song last night in which they seemed to be tipping the hat to Neil's Cortez the Killer. It felt like the real thing. Get ready to be impressed by Particle Kid front man Micah Nelson. He is the real thing, and I have no doubt the band will take flight!

Particle Kid bandleader Micah Nelson is an amazingly talented guitarist, singer, & multimedia Artist! Don’t miss Particle Kid on tour! They are unique in sound, not just a “psychedelic Grunge meets folk rainbow jams, acid jazz meets punk, Rock meets experimental.” a great band with tons of soul & talent!

  2. This sounds like it was a great performance, and a bonus that it was in a small venue. I hope they make it to my neck of the woods, because they sound like they’re just what I need right now. Thanks Alan for the review and the great photos too.

    Peace 🙏

  3. @ Thrasher : Thanks! The show was such a a cool experience, as was meeting Micah. Pardon the typos!
@ Dan : I know you would love it.
@ GDTRFB7 : Thanks again for the timely tip. I would have been sad to miss it!

Here is the live song “All One Day” from Bend OR, 4/2/24. This is the song I mentioned that seemed to tip the hat to Cortez the Killer during the live performance I saw 2 nights later in Seattle:

Still on a high from the Seattle show, with Dave (pictured) & Brad.

FYI : There is an phoney facebook account for Micah Nelson, which is FAKE. It’s got his photo from new album era, and is asking people to give bank account#’s to join his “fan club” for $300. Even “a partial payment is good” (for the scammer) to rip folks off. Obviously this thief has nothing to do with the real Micah Nelson.

Have a great day! Your Brother Alan in Seattle

    1. Love Micah. I also see from the photo that his old bandmate from Insects vs Robots, Milo Gonzales, was playing lead. Also spot Anthony from Promise of the Real handling the drum kit. Anytime anybody can see these guys don’t stop and think about it! Just go!

  5. @ WBKM : Cool to hear that info about personnel in band. And they were fantastic live. Micah sang very well in categories such as : shape shifting undefinable psychedelic grunge alternative folk 60’s acid test throwback current force of nature meets alternative punk cowboy. Categorization is meaningless.

Micah has tremendous talent; he plays rhythm guitar for this tour, although he does play lead on some albums He sings very well like his father & brother. Micah “has the chops” and tons of soul. He will deliver on tour with CH! Incredible that he can create as much as he does… I forgot to comment on his painting skills and image creation, on video or onstage. He is an elder in his young years! He writes great songs abundantly. I have 5 of his studio albums from 2017 on. Great art. I recommend the live album. He has a destiny ahead of him, shall he can take care & stay with us all through the years ahead. God knows we need a colorful spectacular light to rescue us from these often dark times! I am recharged after seeing his show!

It amazes me that both Micah & Lukas Nelson & band PotR are both so successful Artistically speaking! Both have proven their own worth as Artists. Their father is so talented. His 3rd chapter has proven to be one of the best. Great albums abundantly created.

Lukas is a triple threat & perhaps is similar to “Willie Meets Rock.” He has a great catalog of albums and songs already, and still young!

  6. I recommend all of Micah Nelson’s albums! His studio output is compelling, wonderful, & unique in every way. But his live album is fantastic, hypnotic & exciting!

It would be easy to discount a song & album called “Everything is Bullshit” unless you listen to it. You will enjoy! His music will grow on you. It’s easy to love and enjoy! He wrote a song after his dad said “If I Die When I’m High (I’ll Be Half Way To Heaven)”

  7. You are welcome Alan,, glad you made it. The Ojai show was good too, and a very tiny venue, at $18 no surcharge, better than parking or beers at most venues.

I also thought he was going into Cortez on that one song you mentioned.

Two weeks to go! Or less if they pull off some warm up shows. ??
